Sorrowfull news. Black Hawk down. Fourteen killed. Fourteen families brought to their knees by a War no one wants to end, no one.
Posted by Judith at August 22, 2007 03:54 AMThe Congress of Harry and Nancy aren't too popular.
A new Gallup Poll finds Congress' approval rating the lowest it has been since Gallup first tracked public opinion of Congress with this measure in 1974. Just 18% of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing, while 76% disapprove, according to the August 13-16, 2007, Gallup Poll.
Posted by Christopher at August 22, 2007 04:09 AMDemocrats give this Congress a 21% approval, while Republicans have it at 18% and indi's at 17%. Don't you need the indi's to win? They're not very happy at all. Looks to me they might change the management again.
Read that...Historic Lows, the worst ever. This president is lording it over them with his paltry somewhere in the thirties rating.
Shame about our losses in Iraq. My prayers go out to their families, friends, and loved ones.

...but let's keep fighting a protracted occupation because I loves me some war!!!
Posted by peter's bubble thought at August 22, 2007 04:59 AMThe University of Illinois has canceled a partnership between its prestigious police-training institute and controversial military contractor Blackwater USA, citing a possible conflict of interest.University officials say the institute's director, Tom Dempsey, was not upfront about a personal agreement he made to work as a contractor for Blackwater, even as he planned the official partnership. The university continues to investigate the case while Dempsey remains on leave, using accrued vacation time to work for Blackwater in Afghanistan training local police in drug enforcement.

Posted by ann at August 22, 2007 05:23 AMCertainly The Mad King's pet, Raeus, will report the numbers as they are, not as the Mad King wishes them to be. Just to keep them honest, here is a little interactive tid bit from what I like to call "the news". I hope we can get some "news" in the United States one of these days. People just might fall for it! Especially that graph of the civilian death toll. One might be seeing a trend. But that civilian death toll is also a miracle for the republi-cons. jesus always loves photos of little blown apart babys, and so do the republi-cons! Baby blood and entrails always smell like...like, victory!
Posted by phidipides at August 22, 2007 05:30 AMpeter's bubble: pants-pissing peter loves him some war, he just doesn't want to personally sacrifice anything for it
Posted by Gay Veteran at August 22, 2007 05:43 AMGay Veteran, there is indeed something very hypocritical when Bush or any Republican says they feel sorry for a soldier's death in a War of their choice.
Posted by Judith at August 22, 2007 07:17 AMBush, Cheney (and DINO Dems who say the surge is working) have no bid-ness lamenting troop losses or injuries. It's the height of hypocrisy.
Posted by Christopher at August 22, 2007 07:22 AMThanks phidipides. I'm sending that link to my persistant friend who emails me "we're fighting for our freedoms" bullshit. Poor girl is dating a wingnut (who did have the balls to go to Iraq but I think he joined the army to get out of paying decent child support to his ex).
Posted by Sharon at August 22, 2007 07:32 AMPhid, Great link!
Yesterday, I was reading in another foreign newspaper about the 1 million Iraqi refugees in Jordon putting a strain on the economy. The article did say that some of the refugee children would start schooling.
If today reaches 110 degrees here in Phoenix it will tie the record for most 110 degree days ever in a year, 28.
Yesterday, tied the all time Phoenix high, 110. The low also broke the all time record for the morning, 91 degrees.
This is when the homeless start dying. They can't get their core body temps down.
Posted by Seven of Six at August 22, 2007 07:44 AMWell, finally someone spoke the truth on Network TV (Today Show) this morning, and of all people, it was Brad Pitt.
Pitt announced a major step forward in his effort to bring back housing in one of the hardest-hit parts of the city, the 9th Ward. Not only did he vow that housing will be built, but ground-breaking is expected in a matter of months.
He spoke about Katrina being a man made disaster and not a natural disaster. He chided the Government for giving people poisonous trailers, and for neglecting those who need help. However, when I went to Today's home page, any mention of man made disaster and sick trailers appeared to be deleted in the transcript.
Guess the Government doesn't want us reminded of their total failure to NO.

That's vision, rebuild in the flood plain again and again and again. Will they ever learn? Isn't there any higher ground available?
Posted by peter at August 22, 2007 08:00 AMAh, I love the smell of death in the morning.
Posted by Judith at August 22, 2007 08:02 AMWell, it's more vision than your Leader has Peter. You missed the part about the flood being "man-made," and therefore, avoidable.
Posted by Judith at August 22, 2007 08:06 AM"Flood plain?" HAHAHAHAHA
What an ass. You obviously haven't lived in Missouri. If you had, you would know what a flood plain is.
Posted by Judith at August 22, 2007 08:09 AMShame about our losses in Iraq. My prayers go out to their families, friends, and loved ones.
Neo-con hypocrite! Enlist your children today!
Isn't there any higher ground available?
I'm sure all the pious, rich, white folk own it!

Rebuild in tornado alley again and again. Rebuild in Hurricane prone area's again and again. Isn't there better logic available?
Posted by goose1 at August 22, 2007 08:50 AMIs anyone else having difficulty opening You-Tube videos on blogger?
Posted by Seven of Six at August 22, 2007 10:13 AMThey have never worked for me, Seven. The video jumps around, and there is no audio. I just don't bother any more.
Posted by tempus at August 22, 2007 03:39 PMContraception is not the same type of issue as abortion. Because the sales of medicines and devices are at stake in contraception, the pharmaceutical companies will shut down any attempt to outlaw birth control.
PS: Does anyone reading this blog ever post comments that are on topic?
