The war in Iraq will continue to be a 'success' until January 20, 2009 and what happens after that is not guarenteed to be good.
Posted by herbal tee at August 22, 2007 08:42 PMOT, Tonight, John Stewart, was in rare form on "The Daily Show". One of his best shows ever.
Oh yeah, Barack was on.
Re: Romney - thought he comment about his "boys" serving alterative service would take him out of the race, I was wrong. Wrong because the media and other candidates didn't go after him for it and therefore, it never registered with the public. Suggests that the party and MSM want him in the race. The IO numbers are interesting (although trying to predict the caucus results is a futile exercise). Looks as if IO GOP voters like a wealthy MA resident as much as the DEMs do. On a more serious note, Romney has spent a lot of time and money on IO - he's not yet running a fifty state strategy. Those folks seem to like what they see. If Dobson et al. endorse him, that's the nomination. Who else have they got? Probably easier to make Romney palatable to their flocks than any of the others.
Would be cautious in hoping for a Romney nomination. In 2000 Democrats feared McCain and were relieved when GWB beat him. That didn't work out so well.
McConnell's "logic" is so twisted that it's hard to believe he has any idea what he's talking about. Perhaps, like Fitzgerald, we've had so much sand kicked in our eyes that we can see what's real and what's just bs.

Wrong because it's a trivial little bit of nonsense.

That doesn't change the fact that Romney's flippant response to a loaded question was a trivial bit of nonsense.
It's gonna be pretty hard to up the caliber of candidate attracted to the office if everyone expects to be crucified over a meaningless comment when the there are real serious substantive issues to deal with.
Posted by snark at August 23, 2007 07:08 AMI don't see how you can support Clinton when you otherwise seem rational.
Posted by john griffith at August 23, 2007 07:35 AMI’ll disagree with Jeff about Michele Obama’s intended target when she remarked about people spouting family values when they can't look after their own families. I don’t think she was taking a swipe at Hillary, but rather she was gunning for Rudy Giuliani.
C'mon, man. That was all about Hillary. Why would she take a shot at Rudy? Rudy's not even on the Obamas' radar at this point. They gotta get past Hillary first.
Michelle Obama has officially lowered the level for the first time in the campaign by anyone, by bringing up Oval Office BJ's. We all knew it was going to come up, but the taking the potshot while hiding behind his wife is cowardly on Obama's part.
If you wanna start some shit, Obama, do it like a man. Stand up front, say what you think, and take the retaliation.
And Michelle, that was a cheap, Joey Buttafucco shot.
"If you can't run your own house, you can't run the White House."
It reads like Michelle has chosen the prom theme to carry them through the primaries. And it's catchy, in that rhyming "if the glove don't fit, you must acquit" kinda way.
Yeah, Michelle, it's all about being strong and "running" your house. Never mind the immense complexities of each specific marriage, the years of events and resentments and compromises, and the myriad of factors that can lead to infidelity.
Let's just break it down to, "Hillary can't even keep her own MAN at home!"
It was a cheap shot and OBVIOUSLY aimed at Hillary.
So there's my message to Obama and Edwards, for that matter. From one registered voter: Are you gonna hide behind your wives or are you gonna come out and fight?
It was a cheap shot and OBVIOUSLY aimed at Hillary.
I think maybe your mask is on a little too tight.
The 'run your own house' comment in context;
That one of the most important things that we need to know about the next president of the United States is, is he somebody that shares our values? Is he somebody that respects family? Is a good and decent person? So our view was that, if you can't run your own house, you certainly can't run the White House. So, so we've adjusted our schedules to make sure that our girls are first, so while he's traveling around, I do day trips. That means I get up in the morning, I get the girls ready, I get them off, I go and do trips, I'm home before bedtime. So the girls know that I was gone somewhere, but they don't care. They just know that I was at home to tuck them in at night, and it keeps them grounded, and, and children, the children in our country have to know that they come first. And our girls do and that's why we're doing this. We're in this race for not just our children, but all of our children.
How this can be construed as having anything to do with blowjobs in the Oval Office I have no idea. Except, perhaps, as a result of a shortage of blood to the brain. She's talking about how she and Barack have arranged their schedules so that their family doesn't get destroyed by politics. I know someone else who has done a very good job, against great odds, of also making sure her family hasn't gotten destroyed by politics. Her name is Hillary Clinton.
Let it go.

Who gives a shit besides the wingnuts, I wanna know.
Are you gonna hide behind your wives or are you gonna come out and fight?
Here's a nice right-wing authoritarian-style comment. It assumes Michele and Elizabeth have no inherent agency or opinions, that they are but mouthpieces for their spouses, which is misogynistic all by itself. But that's the whole point of blowing up this stupid comment and twisting it around like a squeaky balloon animal, isn't it? Not only to portray the Dem male candidates as girly-men, but to chest pound and bellow your manliness. And we all know the type of guy that's compelled to do that - one that's insecure about his own masculinity. You know, guys like Jonah Goldberg, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, and yes, costumed manly men like MV. It's like the little Honda with the eardrum-piercing bass, or the milquetoast driving a Hummer: We get it! You're insecure about your tiny dick! Might as well wear a big sign, it'd be cheaper and show some self-awareness.
Posted by iamcoyote at August 23, 2007 08:46 AMWell, I don't know how this became about me being a right-wing authoritarian with a small dick. I thought this was a message board to discuss politics. But since you brought it up...
Maybe this is the pussification of our country. A man who stands up for himself must be overcompensating for a shortcoming, while the guy who uses his wife as a pawn on the chessboard must be hung like a mule.
So the message is: Ladies, if you're looking for a man who can satisfy, find the biggest nerd you can who primps his hair, ducks conflict, drives a Yugo and cries like a baby over his love of Jesus. Those are the real men now.
Is Michelle's comment NEWS? No. But I still think it was a Hillary reference. That's how I took it. And I did read the whole speech so I get the context.
As Jeff pointed out (and linked), Jennifer Hunter from the Chicago Sun-Times took it the same way.
Coyote, maybe you wanna send her an email and tell her she's a fascist with a huge ass and no tits or something.

Considering the source is important when considering the opinion. Judging by the rest of your comments, you're just another rightwing bedwetter. Source = wingnut = ignore. Thanks for playing, big...um...little guy.
Posted by iamcoyote at August 23, 2007 09:27 AMCoyote, where are your reading comprehension skills?
I AM DEFENDING HILLARY. How does that make me right wing?
