Comments: Raw in the Endless Denial

the country died a bit the day the supreme court selected bush as president..our democracy was stabbed in the back..what we have done in iraq will haunt of of us alive today for the rest of our lives..and our childrens..the world looks at us with loathing..with good cause..i try to remain optimistic but i sometimes think our country is to far gone..it is a corporation...no empathy..that cannot last..hope i'm wrong

How 90's of you today Paradox. Loathing of militarism? Washington disarmament Conference of 1935 ring a bell? How about the glorious twenties sailing our all painted white navy around the world for all to see. We are America, see our technology, our might. Where did our great generals come from? The Pattons, MacArthurs, Marshalls, Dolittles. WWII didn't get won without our best. They were there before 1939. General/Colonel Mitchell testified in the twenties about future wars. General Mitchell was all about modernizing our military thought. Founding the concepts of an air force.

Do you forget about Democratic President Wilson leading us into the European war, WWI. How well our forces fought there. Without American involvement there that war would have just kept going. Maybe you need to look at "Remember the Maine" down in Havana in 1898 followed with our defeat of the Spanish Navy and our occupation of the Phillipines that lasted till the Japanese removed us in 1942 and continues after we removed them in 1944 into the 80/90's. How's that for a lengthly occupation.?

Do you want to forget the Indian wars of the 1870's, 80's, and 90's. Did we prevail with just the cowboys of the time? The fighting along our southern boarder with Mexico at the turn of the century. Standing Army defeated the Mexican intruders.

Al Gore should have never attempted a recount in Florida. He created the problems with our elections. How many other close national elections were there? How many were ever overturned by the recount? What was the last presidential election with problems, the 1880's? Turn the moron around, Al Gore seems to be the moron. A sitting Vice President with such contempt of the electorate to put the country through this six week farce. What an obnoxious act. Very unsettling, creating much discomfort withon America. Al Gore was the challenger the whole time. He never had the high ground. My gosh, "if I can't have my way it's a sham." We had a somewhat functioning debate in Congress before that. He polarized Congress greatly with the outcome. Since, not much has been accomplished with the exception of the post September 11th coming together.

This lament of yours happens each generation thinking the next just doesn't get it. We've overcomed our past laments. We will overcome yours.

al gore was elected president of the united states in 2000...for me all dicussions regarding the criminal enterprise called the bush administration begins and ends there..their deriliction of duty allowed 9/11 to occur..it could have been prevented..could have..but it wasn't....it happened on the watch of george w. bush..the man who was not elected..history will not be kind to these people..despite moronic rantings such as above..

the fact that america is a warring nation cannot be disputed..always has been probably always will be..til were eliminated..however.. i do not think that is the point..there was a time that we stood for something..at least we thought we did..we believed in freedom and democracy ..the bush administration killed that..they're criminals who have been responsible for hundreds of thousands of death..women and children..of course they say it was to protect us from terrorism..but that is a lie...and when these reptilian creatures are out of power the truth will begin to set us free..i believe that..these past seven years were not the will of the american people

Let's remember how many ranted about Joe Lieberman last year after he had lost the party nomination. How he became "sore loserman" as he refused to comply with many Democrats wishes to just go away. He won in November and is now seated and a committee chair. Gore v. Bush is very similar. He lost and your guy tried to overcome it. He didn't and the rest is...

There is a similarity and it seems y'all can't see it.

i must say that making an analogy between gore/bush and joe lieberman is a bit of a stretch..akin to apples and oranges..but much of what you have to say peter is usually along those lines...al gore won..and the supreme court selected the president..not exactly what the founding fathers had in mind...and it led to 7 years of misery for many

The 2000 election irregularities in Florida were Gore's fault? Wow, I learn something new every day. Was he also in Ohio in '04?

Regardless of the endless human history of violence, I suspect there has also always been a core of those seeking a better way to resolve disputes - pacifists, if you will. Even now there are some, perhaps many, who eschew unnecessary military violence and who think rationally and who care about humanity, the earth, and such.

The question is, how the heck do we peaceful, thoughtful, caring types organize or otherwise find ways to effect the needed and long overdue changes that not only benefit us all but may be mandatory to the survival of our world and our species?

Clue - these are not helpful:
"There has always been war."
"Don't waste your vote on secondary candidates or third parties."
"Everything is cyclical, and things will get better by and by."
"We must vote for the lesser of two evils."
etc.

damn, pants pissing peter, are you STOOPID

There were no Democratic mobs blocking the counting of the Connecticut senate votes. There were no Democratic supreme court justices awarding the senate seat to the psychopath neo-con Lieberman.

pants pissing peter: "Al Gore should have never attempted a recount in Florida. He created the problems with our elections."

yeah, better to allow Gov. Jeb Bush and FL secretary of state Harris to STEAL the election for our Crawford Caligua. What was Gore thinking?!?

"He polarized Congress greatly with the outcome. Since, not much has been accomplished with the exception of the post September 11th coming together."

You're quite the right-wing troll revisionist. Newt Gingrich polarized the Congress in the early 90s. Then there was the attempted constitutional coup against Clinton.

"post September 11th coming together"? ROFLOL, good god man what planet do you live on?!?!?!? Bush squandered ALL of that. He could have united the country, but instead he manipulated us into a war of aggression against Iraq.

Posted by gay veteran at August 25, 2007 01:58 PM

You trying to tell me that that "dumb as a rock" President Bush was able to manuever all of you smart people into authorizing a war in Iraq. HC included!

Now who's doing the 'duping'?

Posted by peter at August 25, 2007 02:18 PM

I think Bush is very cunning on a political level.

Intellectually? gee, Iraq, Katrina, etc.

Posted by gay veteran at August 25, 2007 03:02 PM

It is pretty clear at this date that it was Cheney who did the manuvering on the "intelligence" front to dupe people. AAnd as to voting for war, it has pointed out several times that nobody voted for war per se; the vote had to do with letting the inspectors do their job on the ground first---which they did not do because Bush et al decided they would stop that investigation prematurely.
