Forget it-He is toast.
GO HILLARY..
if a primary were held in my state tomorrow (vermont) and al gore..Hillary clinton..and John edwards were all in..al gore would get my vote..if he were'nt john edwards would get it...then hillary...al gore may not enter....john edwards may not have the wheels to stay the course..hope he does..but if not it's hillary..right wrong or indifferent..so root for who you will..and donate.. ..but let's not eat our own in the meantime
Posted by dennis at August 28, 2007 11:58 AMFortress Investments LLC, that's all you have to say. Half of his net worth was invested in this company foreclosing on Katrina victims. Made $479K while working part time at this company. Co-workers have given his campaign $150K. Two America's, his forclosing on mine(figuratively).
Posted by peter at August 28, 2007 12:11 PMFrom a British perspective I don't understand the obsession with Hillary - Edwards comes across, for British people, if not Kucinich at least someone with a plan and a soul.
Posted by littlejohnuk at August 28, 2007 12:13 PMpeter, provide the link. If not, don't post.
Posted by Seven of Six at August 28, 2007 12:15 PMGo Hillary indeed. While I would vote for her in the general without hesitation, happily, willingly, I much prefer the anti corporation candidate over her incrementalism and limited vision liberal progressivism (?).
I'm in with John, he has the smarts, the message, the correct targets. He is addressing the fault lines that Bush has created or ignored into existence, and that is what we need far more than another liberal laundry list problem solver.
But I'll take a conventional symptom treatment to salt in the wound any day, but I would much rather treat the underlying disease, and that's what John Edwards offers that Hillary does not.
Posted by Duckman GR at August 28, 2007 12:29 PMDES MOINES, Aug. 17 — The John Edwards presidential campaign said on Friday that Mr. Edwards would divest his portfolio at a New York hedge fund of investments in subprime mortgage companies that have foreclosed on victims of Hurricane Katrina. But the campaign said he would keep his $16 million investment in the hedge fund, the Fortress Investment Group.

Damn! peter has become a populist along with his support for old white republi-con faggots! I'm impressed. Next thing you know he'll wave at the African American neighbors...as long as they keep their yard nice.
BTW, Edward divested of that investment a while back over their predatory lending practices. Keep up with the pace, boy. You're looking foolish.

I loved this ones use of the word "accidentally".

Have at it.
Posted by peter at August 28, 2007 12:46 PMYeah Phid, a while back, Tuesday two weeks back!
Posted by peter at August 28, 2007 12:47 PMEdwards had is opportunity in 2004.
Posted by New Law at August 28, 2007 12:48 PMThanks Ann.
Posted by Seven of Six at August 28, 2007 12:48 PMSeven of Six, are you the host?
Posted by New Law at August 28, 2007 12:49 PMTest
Posted by New Age at August 28, 2007 12:55 PMWhoever the host is, thank you for unblocking me.
Posted by New Age at August 28, 2007 12:57 PMSeven of Six, are you the host?
Not at all. But when I first started posting here it was explained to me that my position was stronger if I was able to provide a link to back up my opinion or claim. If not, it could be construed that I was talking out of my ass.
Posted by Seven of Six at August 28, 2007 12:58 PMWell crap, looks like Hillary got the first Union support.
Posted by Seven of Six at August 28, 2007 01:05 PMWell, let's not get into Hillary and her blue-chips in GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Abbott Laboratories and Eli Lilly. Healthcare for all....(cough, cough). Fuckin A!
And let's not talk about her investments in Anadarko Petroleum, Chevron, Royal Dutch Shell and Exxon Mobil and the chemical makers Dow Chemical and DuPont. Let's keep the environment clean and get some alternative energy...(chirp, chirp).
You want to toss stones at Edwards for an investment in a company he claims for which he was unaware of it making predatory loans...good, let's fucking play. But I assure you, I've read all of their financial disclosures, and you will not like the game once I get into it.
C'mon Hillary. Get your latest statement in. Why are you so late with your disclosure? Yucaipa holdings proving a real problem? Didn't know Pfizer was a drug company? Didn't know DOW was into dangerous chemicals?
Yeah Phid, a while back, Tuesday two weeks back!
Wanna talk about Rudy's holding? Stop tapping your foot, peter.
Posted by phidipides at August 28, 2007 01:06 PMSo you're going to accept his word, after he was caught, that he will divest himself from these companies. That's it, next? No shame for all those his investments foreclosed on. No responsibility for the other things his former employer were doing. 13% plus interest rates on mortgages when the going rate was at 6%. How much money did he make from these guys? Does it matter that he's a slum lord? How's his judgement now?
BTW, Google had all those and many more. I would expect everyone here to verify anything I said whether a link was provided or not. If someone wants it bad enough they'll look it up. If they don't, they either accept it or they don't.
Posted by peter at August 28, 2007 01:09 PMGreat post, Jeff!

I can't tell the difference.
Posted by at August 28, 2007 01:14 PMI would expect everyone here to verify anything I said whether a link was provided or not. If someone wants it bad enough they'll look it up. If they don't, they either accept it or they don't.
Excuse me peter? As arrogant as your boss...err pResident!
Bad couple of weeks, huh? Poor petey, lost turdblossom, now Gonzo, joining you back in Tejas!
Losing your barbershop quartet buddy Craig must have pushed you over the edge. Days of the old daisy chain are only a distant memory.
I can't tell the difference.
Posted by at August 28, 2007 01:14 PM
Wow, that is some strong words from an anonymous source.
So you're going to accept his word...
Oh, I'm sure there'll be plenty of people who can think of nothing better to do with their time keeping tabs on the issue.
Posted by snark at August 28, 2007 01:26 PMSo you're going to accept his word, after he was caught, that he will divest himself from these companies.
Yes, I am. Edwards is a man of honor and principle. Unlike, say, Dick Cheney, who claimed he was no longer making any money off Halliburton. Sweet Jesus what a lie that was.
And Edwards was not employed by Fortress, he was a consultant. Big difference. HUGE.
Posted by ann at August 28, 2007 01:30 PMSo, Mars/Brian Wood/Wise One/blah blah blah/New Age. Didn't take my advice about sticking to one name, eh? I guess it doesn't matter as long as you don't post something about Edwards' haircut 10 times in a row.
How's his judgement now?
Still way better than any anti-democracy Republican. 'Course my dog has better judgement than a republican, so the bar's really not all that high.
Posted by iamcoyote at August 28, 2007 01:31 PMEdwards is alright, but republican attack dogs will bury him as an hypocrite. He need to stop accussing others of what he is equally guilty.
Posted by New Age at August 28, 2007 01:33 PMI would expect everyone here to verify anything I said whether a link was provided or not. If someone wants it bad enough they'll look it up.
Your expectations are meaningless here. They are just like you're unlinked suppositions. Bullshit you got from Rush-the-Lush or some other moron on the right, devoid of all context and meaning.
No shame for all those his investments foreclosed on.
35 homes in a company the hedge fund bought after Edwards made the investment.
Does it matter that he's a slum lord?
Where's your link to Edward's ownership of a slum?
...lost turdblossom, now Gonzo,...
Careful, SoS. peter will give you an unlinked tirade the likes of which has never been seen before. peter is so much like Ted Nugent in that regard...the pissing his pants part. But peter is in good company with those he supports, especially when the rope pulls-up short. Treason! The new Texas tradition!!
Damn! Those links provide something....what could it be? Hmmmm...CONTEXT? I guess I could have said peter is a pants-pissing chickenhawk republi-con coward who should be hung for treason. I prefer he sees what his hee-roes are like in print.
I remember when the wingnut portion of my family went crazy over Nugent. This will be such a let down for them.
Iamcoyote - whoever the host is just unblocked me, so I had to use other name in the interim.
In any case, you might have noticed that I am holding my fire. No promise.
Posted by New Age at August 28, 2007 02:43 PMiamcoyote - why are you paying so nuch attention to me? If you are not the host, how did you know who is who? I suspect you have a hand in having me blocked to start with, you know too much to be innocent.
Posted by New Age at August 28, 2007 02:50 PMNA, it was easy - first you posted a test, and then you asked if you were unblocked. Who else would it be? And, it's an Edwards thread. Simple deduction. After reading blogs since before they were called blogs, I've learned a thing or two about patterns and habits of posters. I guess it just seems sneaky to keep using different names, just like coming in without one at all. It's like you're trying to avoid being accountable for your statements.
But innocent? No one would dream of accusing me of such a thing.
Posted by iamcoyote at August 28, 2007 03:00 PMyou can tell who pants-pissing right-wing cowards fear the most from pants pissing peter's posts
and Rudy was more interested in making money than serving his country on the Baker-Hamilton Commission
"We don't need a surge in Iraq, we need a surge in New Orleans."
he's got my vote, LONG past time to repair the damage caused by our Crawford Caligua
Posted by gay veteran at August 28, 2007 03:19 PMSneaky, Accountable.... Trust me I love a good fight. BTW, I did not asked if I was unblocked, I only thanked the host for unblocking me (check again). As for other names, let just say I was looking for a good fit, now I am set.
I have the feelings that we will have some more squabbles untill the primary season is over, then we will all be on the same page and hopefully celebrate the democrats success in 2008 general election.
Posted by New Age at August 28, 2007 03:24 PMI said it seems sneaky - maybe it's just me, but like I said, I've been around and seen it all. As for primary squabbles, I'm out of it. Since I'm going to vote for whatever dem gets in, I'm not going to get myself all riled up for no good reason. The worst Dem is still better than the "best" 'puke.
As for settling on a name, good. I was afraid the next name in your progression might be Yoni or something... Kidding!
Posted by iamcoyote at August 28, 2007 03:31 PMI think you are full of wisdom, I found myself agreeing with you most of the time. For primary, I am still not voting for Edwards so dont try, only if he wins the primary by miracle, then he will have my vote.
Yoni.... Thank God I did not ask you for a name suggestion.
Posted by New Age at August 28, 2007 03:46 PMHeh, Yoni and crystals were all I could think of when I think New Age - I was in a hurry when I posted, so it was off the top of my head.
And though I like Edwards best, I'm not going to try to convince anyone of anything. It seems everyone has their preference by now and nothing's going to change their minds, at least here on the blogs, so why try? I'd be happy to see a woman president in my lifetime, or Hispanic or black, all have something to offer, all have drawbacks. Expecting perfection will always leave you disappointed; just keep hoping for a lot, but be grateful for what little you get. It's not revolutionary, but it's better than being angry all the time.
