Comments: Craig: Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places

Damn, he could always come out of the closet and go to Rev. Dobson's 3 week, anti-gay course, all will be forgiven! Poor pathetic twit.

How many? Lots. Without people like this, GWB's WH would be running on a skeleton crew.

How to say that Craig comes off looking and sounding substantially straighter than many others I could mention. How sad tht in the 21st century we still haven't figured out that sexual orientation isn't black or white -- it's a continuum and perhaps as much as half the population may ever so slightly be attracted to those of his or her sex.

I don't think he is gay either. I think he is bisexual. He should have married a hermaphrodite or a drag queen with big implants.

Posted by phidipides at August 28, 2007 02:41 PM

"I'm not gay!"
"I'm not gay!"
"I'm not gay!"

I hope not. I don't want him playing on my team part of my tribe. Be gone, hypocrite!

Being gay isn't the issue. Being a hypocrite is.

Posted by iamcoyote at August 28, 2007 03:03 PM

iamcoyote - the issue is hypocrisy for the left but it's being gay for the right. Sort of a lose-lose position for Craig.

The right is more interested in sex than they are about legal, ethical and morality not involving sex. Thus, no matter how much the GOP screamed, "Rule of Law, rule of law" during the impeachment and trial of Clinton, we all knew it was about sex. While Clinton survived it was a loser for Dems because we too cavaliarly tried to fight the meta-message (dirty sex) and minimized that he committed perjury - or close enough when combined with "I did not have sexual relations..." for the average person to conclude that he lied. That was a win-win for the GOP

You're so right coyote.

When he was in charge of the Veteran's Committee he acted like the funds were his. Shooting down all creative and modernizing methods that would help the VA progress smoothly into the 21st century. He never dared approach bu$h for more funding. In fact he was a huge proponent of privatizing the VA.

OK, just another bu$h bootlicker...or something like that.

You know Steve, this is so typical of these racist homophobes.....real people could care less if this moron is gay or not....all of his peers are aghast but most of them are probably gay as well. If Craig had come clean I would have empathy but since he's a lyin' turd he should be flushed. Will this crap ever end??

Posted by Goyo at August 28, 2007 04:23 PM

I don't care if he's gay. I do care if he's a hypocrite. I do care that he's for anti-gay legislation. I do care if he was trying to have sex in a public bathroom. Makes me shudder to think of sending my 12-yr-old son in (not because someone would try to have sex with him, though of course that is a concern, but because there might be adults having sex in there. Not ok in my book.)

the issue is hypocrisy for the left but it's being gay for the right.

You know, on the surface, I agree with your comments; but I think there's lots more to it than just hypocrisy and sexual repression manifesting itself in these humiliating public outings. I think for the left, there's the schadenfreude factor - it's fun to finally see an asshole be hoisted by his own petard. And if there's one thing the tightie righties hate more than liberals, it's being made fools of and laughed at by liberals. Craig gave the "enemy" ammunition, not so much for being gay, but for being caught at it. As many have noted, the Republican Party is crawling with closet cases; Craig's been busted many times over the years and still got himself reelected. Think of JeffyLube, and whoever it was he was visiting in the WH. And Mark Foley, and Haggard, none of this was a secret. Sure, there's a lot of people out there who hate the icky gays, but to the Republicans, Craig's real crime is that by getting caught, and denying the undeniable, he weakens the gay stick the Republicans have been using to beat the bigots to the voting booths for the last three decades.

And like SoS points out, they've now lost another firm supporter of their corrupt agenda. By getting caught, all of his corruption, and those who enabled it are put in the spotlight. The authoritarians don't like that shit at all, which is why he's being jettisoned by the wingnuts, whereas Foley and Haggard were just quietly shuttled off to rehab, and JeffyLube was allowed to fade away without a backward glance.

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck and confesses to being a duck, it's probably a duck. I don't care whether he's gay, I don't care if he's a hypocrite. But I do care that he's a blathering idiot with absolutely no good judgement. People who don't call a lawyer and plead guilty to something they say they are innocent of are stupid. We do not need senators who are idiots.

that is one hell of a pathetic human being...and a liar..he is the poster boy for what the republican party has become..a bunch of phoney lieing fucking frauds..to afraid to look in the mirror and face what they really are..may god have mercy on their souls..cause i don't

iamcoyote - have to differentiate between the party insiders and pol ops and the sheeple. My comment referred to the sheeple response and none of them will be looking at it all tht closely. Agree with your take at the party professional and ops level. Craig getting caught hurt the GOP with their sheeple and in the game played with their DEM counterparts.

Since this one is lose-lose, they are wisely cutting their losses and running. ID will send another rightwing nutjob to DC as his replacement.

Different from Vitter - a DEM could sneak into his seat. Also he didn't show up with a dead girl and Craig got caught with the live boy.

Posted by Marie at August 28, 2007 05:39 PM

Marie, I do the same thing conflating the sheeple with the party. If nothing else, in the minds of the sheeple, the big gay line between the Dems and the 'pukes has been blurred by this and the other scandals Foley, Brown, Haggart, etc. I don't think for '08 the Republicans will want to bring up gay marriage for fear of reminding their sheep of the hypocrisy. As for Vitter, it's more of a "boys will be boys" kinda thing. I believe I recently saw his poll numbers didn't suffer at all from his scandal. But then, isn't Louisiana notorious for forgiving scandal?

No, being gay is.

End

Republican party is nothing more than coalition of bigots, insane people and hypocrites. Take a look at Giuliani, their leading presidential candidate, the guy not only slept with his own cousin but married her as his first wife ...yuck.

Posted by New Age at August 28, 2007 08:00 PM

what kind of man has to stand up and say " i am not gay"..what a disgrace he is and what an embarassment to the state of idaho..

Posted by dennis at August 29, 2007 02:40 AM

Hey, the fella plead down. He was accused of a more serious crime and copped a plea admitting guilt. You don't do that if you are innocent. Whether he is gay or was just having some "naughty" fun, he got popped by a cop that was there BECAUSE gays had been soliciting there. The cop wasn't there cause he needed to go to the restroom. Give Craig one prop...he did use the standard GOP "It's somebody else's fault" defense. You wonder why he didn't mention the incident to his wife, though, don't you.
