Bush Wants $50 Billion More for Iraq War
Planned Request Signals Confidence That Congress Won't Prevail on Pullout

And that achieves what exactly? I too feel like giving up on these cowards, but not allowing myself to have some influence on what candidates actually make it to the general election seems the wrong approach. At least I can try to have some influence on who passes the next round.
Posted by Fr33d0m at August 29, 2007 05:53 AMOne has to follow his own conscious in matters such as this. One thing for sure Paradox, you are not alone in switching from Democrat to Independent because of the feeling of betrayal by those we elected.
My viewpoint is that we are basically ignored by those we put in Congress, until election day.
Posted by Judith at August 29, 2007 06:00 AMWe became Independents after Speaker Botox uttered "Impeachment is off the table," followed by, "Bush isn't worth impeaching."
When Jim received his new voter Independent registration card in the mail, he said, "I'm free!" When I received my Independent card, I felt cleansed.
Reid and Pelosi's legacy is the shrinking of the number of registered Democrats and the growth of the number of registered Independents. I only hope we now had an Independent running to oppose the status quo presidential candidate, Hillary "AIPAC" Clinton.

You two need to get out more.
Posted by snark at August 29, 2007 06:14 AMWhat about the Greens?
Posted by John at August 29, 2007 06:39 AMParadox...
I share your feelings.
Posted by Parallax at August 29, 2007 06:55 AMWe need a strong, viable third party candidate to oppose the march of Hillary and Rudy. These status quo candidates have a stranglehold on our nation.
Posted by Christopher at August 29, 2007 07:05 AMI agree with Paradox. He does the right thing. What it accomplishes first and foremost is an honest expression of how he feels coupled with resolve to DO something, however small, in support of that feeling. It is a first step, not a completed journey. Sound melodramatic? To some of you it will. But if the Democratic incumbents took half that conviction and one-fourth of that effort when they needed to, in Year 2000 when the first signs of betrayal surfaced, then we would not be where we are today.
Incumbent Dems need to know their actions had consequences---very bad consequences--and they did not have to let it happen. They did not have to show spinelessness. And the consequences continue in lost faith and support in them. They have to learn this.
I commend paradox.

Posted by drama at August 29, 2007 07:12 AMCongratulations, paradox! Welcome! You'll be surprised at the karmic weight that's lifted from your shoulders. Trust me on this one.
Posted by phidipides at August 29, 2007 07:26 AMI'll never vote Republican either. I never have. But I will never vote for Feinstein again and Boxer is becoming more problematic by the day. It's the sense of betrayal that's been most hurtful. We thought we were voting in people who were on our side and on our poor beleagered country's side - probably more Republicans than we know breathed a sigh of relief when the Dems took Congress. Well, too bad for all of us. And I, like you, will never get over the FISA vote.
Posted by dianne at August 29, 2007 07:34 AMGood for you! I made that move a year ago.You can just take so much of the spineless, leaderless, gutless, and clueless democrats. cleve
Posted by cleve at August 29, 2007 07:52 AMPhidipides is correct. But be prepared to receive even more campaign solicitations from Camp Hillary. I must get two per week -- Terry's standard letter reminding me Hillary needs even more money.
Posted by Christopher at August 29, 2007 07:54 AM"Terry's standard letter reminding me Hillary needs even more money."
Fine, tell Terry to call Corporate America. Millions of Democrats have said "no more of my money until you grow a spine and do the job you were elected to do."
So, you're saying the Dems have made you sick? Isn't that stretching things a bit?
Posted by iamcoyote at August 29, 2007 09:53 AMI certainly understand why you registered Independent, but I can't get myself to do the same. I love the smell of burning primaries and caucuses in the morning. The conventions and meetings with all the little egotistical power plays. My alternative is I simply refuse to fork over a penny to the party if at all possible at events.
Posted by idiosynchronic at August 29, 2007 09:59 AMWell, Paradox, you just neutered yourself. Now you can't take part in a primary, the only place where someone you like will ever show up with meaning. If the further Left leaves, the measure of the Dem party will drift right.
