I don't think we've heard the last of "wide stance" Republicans either. Other shoes will fall. How very prescient you are. Posted by joel hanes at August 31, 2007 04:35 PM
Hmm, must forgotten the closing quote or something.

This post is a real reach under the stall, if you ask my opinion.
From your link, joel haynes: ...it looks like there is a connection between (Patrick) McHenry (R - Anal Toylandia) and a murderous Republican homosexual love triangle/escort service.
What's so odd about a suicidal murdering gay republi-con who accidentally also happens to be a gay escort? Have you got something against republi-con love triangles? What next? People start going after republi-con love octagons? Besides, this sounds like a normal day in republi-con land to me.
And fish and forests across the West silently cheer humanity's odd modes of self-correction.
A pity, still and somehow, that Craig went down for self-destruction and not the wreckage he has loosed on so much wild country. I guess we can always clean up after him by remembering his policies properly, eg "Larry's Salmon Extinction Rider, the Bush-Craig Healthy Forests Restoration Act..."
It really just could not have happened to a nicer guy. Speaking of nicer guys, though, there are eerie parallels with Mark Hatfield, one of Craig's predecessors as the timber industry's axeman in the Senate. An allegedly 'maverick' Republican, Hatfield was widely rumored to be gay, but never outed.
Posted by gulo gordo at August 31, 2007 05:15 PMnot that i mind a reactionary good for nothing homophobic republican hypocrite resigning from the senate, but let me tell you it strikes me as quite odd that the so self-righteous repukelicans haven't called too for vitter's resignation after his name came up paying for prostitutes in the DC madam scandal. i mean that's a bit more than foot tapping!!!!! nor has the mass media nor the fundamentalists made a big deal out of vitter's hookergate either.....hardly a peep....once again proving to me how grotesquely homophobic and hypocritical the elites in this country still truly are.
What's so odd about a suicidal murdering gay republi-con who accidentally also happens to be a gay escort?Nothing, in my opinion. I imagine they're actually quite common.
Have you got something against republi-con love triangles?Certainly not. Nor do I have anything against gay murdering Republican love triangles, or (as you point out) octagons, or any particular geometry.
But the Republican base strongly disagrees with my tolerant stance on these issues, (as on so many others). I guess I'm such a small person that I just can't resist a bit of schadenfreude as these guys get hoist on their own bigoted petards.
One "family values" environment-hating militarist hypocrite resigns and another Idaho "conservative" is selected from the endless line of halfwits and conmen that make up the western GOoP. Big Deal.
Resign, don't resign, go, stay. Nothing could be of less consequence, although Craig certainly deserves his career-ending humiliation for all the poison he's spit out. But the Idaho GOoPs will never get disgusted with their appalling GOoP party and force it to reform by refusing any further support, so this is a non-event.
Just stamp another "R" on some Idahoan's forehead and send him/her into the senate game, Governor GOoP......
Posted by euzoius at August 31, 2007 05:38 PMBig Deal.
No, it is, really: Idaho (&/or Craig's corporate client list, take yr pick) have lost heap seniority and plum committee slots. This is Bad News for Bad People, on at least a couple fronts.
Posted by gulo gordo at August 31, 2007 05:50 PMWell, one thing is for sure, as long as the GOP keeps up their homophobia, there will be Republicans being forced to resign in disgrace. All in the name of keeping the religious right freakshows happy. It seems to me that the GOP needs to think about accepting homosexuality sooner rather than later, because that base will atrophy in time - they need to build the party, not tear it apart by sexual orientation. But, hey, who am I to offer the GOP advice?
Posted by ann at August 31, 2007 05:56 PMSo all the GOoP rats below Wide Stance move up a rung on the GOoP seniority ladder, okay. Happens all the time.
But I take your point about Idaho losing influence by losing their (very) senior senator. Good. They deserve it for enthusiastically supporting the turd all these years.
Posted by euzoius at August 31, 2007 06:23 PMThis should be a lesson to all of us. If you spot a piece of toilet paper on the floor of a public restroom, let the janitors take care of it. And, for God's sake, don't bend over to pick it up yourself. You never know when the guy in the next stall might be a Republican.
Posted by PretzelsOne at August 31, 2007 08:42 PMAnd Michigan will hold it's primary on January 15th. I guess there will only be 48 states at the convention now. I hope one candidate has enough delegates to carry the first ballot or else it's going to be a mess.
Posted by peter at August 31, 2007 10:30 PMI guess I am in doomsayer mode because the fact that Craig is resigning while there was never any pressure for Vitter to do the same shows that the Republicans are still in absolute control of the corporate press/media.
The problem isn't that Craig goes and Vitter stays, though another Democratic senator would be nice. The problem is that the same press/media that gave us 2000 and 2004 is still deciding what stories get published and broadcast, how often and with what commentary.

Posted by dennis at September 1, 2007 02:26 AMperhaps idaho will think long and hard (no pun intended) as to who they send to the senate next time..
Posted by dennis at September 1, 2007 06:19 AMDennis, good bun. I needed that today. LOL
Posted by Judith at September 1, 2007 11:04 AM"I was proud to serve the people of Idaho"....
Republican people
Corporate people
Rich people
Religious pro-life people
Anti-gay people
I guess I am in doomsayer mode because the fact that Craig is resigning while there was never any pressure for Vitter to do the same shows that the Republicans are still in absolute control of the corporate press/media.
At least Idaho's Governor will appoint someone who isn't a holier than thou gay basher who enjoys giving head to men in restrooms at things like cattle auctions...Oops! He appointed James E. Risch, who is outspokenly anti-gay...
Just great! Here we go again! Meet Craigs replacement, James E. Risch (R - Fire Island Idaho)

He's a bottom. All republi-con males like the subservient position.
