Comments: Open Thread - Caught In A Lie Edition

Steve, seriously, did you think GWB or anybody else cares about him being caught in a lie? In the panoply of his lies this is almost a white one.

Chris Floyd says:

The annus horribilis of 2007 has turned out to be a year of triumph for the Bush Faction -- the hit men who delivered the coup de grâce to the long-moribund Republic. Bush was written off as a lame duck after the Democrat's November 2006 election "triumph" (in fact, the narrowest of victories eked out despite an orgy of cheating and fixing by the losers), and the subsequent salvo of Establishment consensus from the Iraq Study Group, advocating a de-escalation of the war in Iraq. Then came a series of scandals, investigations, high-profile resignations, even the criminal conviction of a top White House official. But despite all this -- and abysmal poll ratings as well -- over the past eight months Bush and his coupsters have seen every single element of their violent tyranny confirmed, countenanced and extended.

An unchangeable fact of our times is that Bush can lie with impunity and suffer no adverse consequences for doing so.

No one in my lifetime, not even Reagan, lied this often, and on matters of such importance, without being called on it by some person of consequence.

And the NYT will dutifully report it on page D43.

Fuck you Bremer, you're a criminal too. And you didn't think your mob boss would do something other than use you and hide behind you and screw you sideways when it suited him? Hahahahaha.

How any of these monsters can sleep at night is beyond me. They actually worry more about the state of their own vanity than about the millions of ruined human lives they directly caused.

Rot in hell with your beloved Chimp and Dick, L. Paul or Jerry or whatever the fuck your name is. Oh, and wow, nice boots.

Prick. Asshole.

Pardon my french.

Oops. How can you be Commander-in-Chief, and not have knowledge of such an important decision in the War? Seems Bush has begun to rewrite history for his legacy. Of course, Bush doesn't seem to comprehend that he looks like an idiot whether he knew or did not know.

Saw the movie No End in Sight last night. The movie certainly reveals Bremer as another asshole like all the others.

Bush's great ambition: wealthy boredom after he leaves WH. Exactly what I would expect.

Draper tells us in 'Dead Certain' that:

"Bush talks of the loneliness of the US commander-in-chief. "Self-pity is the worst thing that can happen to a presidency. This is a job where you can have a lot of self-pity," Bush says."

How about saving that self-pity for the families of 3,741 dead soldiers, or the 12,000 returning with mental problems, or the 28,000 wounded.

Bush reveals that whenever he feels depressed about the death toll in Iraq, he turns to God for comfort. "I've got God's shoulder to cry on, and I cry a lot," he says. "I'll bet I've shed more tears than you can count."

Yeah, right, sure, ROFLMAO. Is there any end to Bush's chutzpah. Naaah!

Your speaking of Viceroy L. Paul Bremmer.

The "Viceroy" never really stuck but it seems that "asshole" L. Paul Bremmer is destined to become a universal favorite.

May I also suggest "vicehole" or "assroy" Bremmer.

Since when does the US grant titles that require a cape?

Here is an interesting tibit:

The Chinese military hacked into a Pentagon computer network in June in the most successful cyber attack on the US defence department, say American officials.

The Pentagon acknowledged shutting down part of a computer system serving the office of Robert Gates, defence secretary, but declined to say who it believed was behind the attack.

Current and former officials have told the Financial Times an internal investigation has revealed that the incursion came from the People’s Liberation Army.

Hackers from numerous locations in China spent several months probing the Pentagon system before overcoming its defences, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Pentagon took down the network for more than a week while the attacks continued, and is to conduct a comprehensive diagnosis. “These are multiple wake-up calls stirring us to levels of more aggressive vigilance,” said Richard Lawless, the Pentagon’s top Asia official at the time of the attacks.

Bush also says in this book that his post-presidential plans include:

1. going to the ranch

2. making speeches and money

Bush goes on to say former president Bill Clinton is making "lots of money and so should I."

Making money and hangin' out. Not a peep about advancing the cause of world peace, ending poverty and hunger, fighting AIDS or education.

Just making money and hangin' out. What a guy.

"Regulators move to curb coal plants
Rules could ban state utilities from buying their electricity

David R. Baker, Chronicle Staff Writer
Thursday, December 14, 2006

California utilities would be prohibited from buying electricity from most coal-burning power plants in neighboring states under far-reaching regulations proposed by state energy regulators Wednesday.
The rules, which would impose one of California's landmark laws to curb global warming, also would limit the amount of carbon dioxide new power plants in the state could emit. Most climate scientists blame the gas for raising temperatures around the globe.
The rules proposed by the California Public Utilities Commission could have profound long-term implications."

Yep: FOX Noise.

I think bu$h could work a comedy club, and get booed off. Maybe have rotten tomato's thrown at him while on stage.
But hey, if he wants to appear in public that's his risk.

"Bill Clinton is making "lots of money and so should I." I wonder if anyone will tell Bush that Clinton actually has something to say, and that people "like" Bill Clinton? Bush will be making $10 and all the hot dogs he can eat giving "speeches" in Buttscratch, TX, WalMart's, thats about all.

One of the current environmental/energy scandals is that Tex-ass has built many (and plans on building many more) coal fired plants to power its acres of ceaselessly running air-conditioners and sell its "excess" dirty electricity. Without 24/7 air conditioning, large stretches of the country will be unendurable as the global warming tipping point approaches.

And the turd peter chides the valiant Californians for undertaking actual sacrifices for the public good of the nation and world. Vile doesn't begin to express the substance and nature of peter's "mind".

Every day, another signicant step closer to irreversible environmental catastrophe, as we do literally nothing.

Tex-ass and its crappy, selfish, propagandized wingnut citizens like peter is one of the great problems of our rapidly failing, doomed nation.

Tex-ass and its crappy, selfish, propagandized wingnut citizens like peter is one of the great problems of our rapidly failing, doomed nation.

Hey, what can you say about a state where the largest newest building in small towns is always an Assembly of God church with everything else being in tatters. That speaks volumes.

Poor Californians, they can never get their electricity right. I wonder what Enron they're going to blame this time.

My state, the reddest of the red, has a large electricity provider who wants to build a new coal fired plant and is getting the shit kicked out of it for those plans. Full page ads in the local republi-con (for what passes as a) newspaper. Even in this narrow holier-than-thou chunk of the world there can be rationality and debate about how best to provide energy in the future.

You can really see the effects of the Buschco economy on the I-35 corridor through Tex-ass. During Clinton there was lots of activity, many shops open for business. Now a lot of it looks like a ghost town. An amazing change in a short period of time. And the Tex-ass republi-cons like it that way! Amazing.

Posted by phidipides at September 4, 2007 08:14 AM

Here, SoS? Sounds like a "you show me yours, I'll show you mine," sorta thing. The writer of the article sounds ecstatic over trade between India and the US.

Posted by iamcoyote at September 4, 2007 08:24 AM

But to Fix the I-35 problem, Rick "Bush" Perry is building a huge freeway, 130, to completely by-pass Austin and the I-35 businesses, allowing all new kinds of Walmarts and trailer parks and McDonalds to sprout up out in the boonies where only cows previously roamed. Now we know why lots of politicians were busy buying dead-flat grazing land a few years ago.

Posted by T2 at September 4, 2007 08:36 AM

T2, I'm glad you brought that up - the huge scandal that no one's talking about. The dreaded "superhighway" that Rush has been rattling on about for years - and blaming on the Dems, btw - that is designed to accomodate Mexican trucking. The trucks have been given the go-ahead to start Thursday; non-union trucks, carrying non-union goods, avoiding non-union ports. Pretty cool, huh?

Posted by iamcoyote at September 4, 2007 08:42 AM

coyote, I thought one of those carrier groups was on it's way home. Not to far from the Straits of Hormuz.
Or more posturing for the Russians and Chinese to see?

Posted by Seven of Six at September 4, 2007 08:46 AM

T2 and coyote, That was huge news here in AZ. Teamster boss Hoffa tried to go to court but was knocked down. The issue's still on the table however.

As it stands, we get 1 full year of broke down Mexican trucks, from over 100 Mexican trucking companies on our highways risking the lives of Americans.

It really is part of NAFTA, Clinton's mistake. The timing is suspect with the elections coming.

Whatever the reason is, Union busting or just cheap transport, it's a raw deal to American trucking companies and their Unions.

Posted by Seven of Six at September 4, 2007 08:56 AM

The dreaded "superhighway" that Rush has been rattling on about for years

It's not a superhighway. It's a series of small highways to take the increasing pressure off of I-35. Not far from me a new 4-lane is being completed in the wilderness, and will run from Dallas into Kansas.

The trucks have been given the go-ahead to start Thursday

An 80,000 pound truck with shitty brakes and a sleepy driver who makes under $3.00 an hour...I don't see how that's a recipe for disaster. I'm thinking it's gonna get really interesting in the downtowns of Dallas and also Ft. Worth.

Posted by phidipides at September 4, 2007 09:07 AM

SoS, the Nimitz group is at the end of their tour, and they just finished their Operation Valient show for Iran in the middle of Aug. The Kitty Hawk is one of the "forward" carriers, pretty much always out there. This new exercise is probably more for PR for Australia, Japan, and India, as the article says.

p-dip - Rush has been touting this superhighway that's supposed to be "5 football fields wide from Mexico to Canada!" Yeah, it's a NAFTA deal, of course; one of the hugest bumbles of the Clinton era. But one of the main features is union busting.

Well, p-dip, after the baby's blood pudding, we all take lots of drugs and indulge in a raucous 2 minute hate session, sorta like carolling, but louder! Then we invade a small country, kill off the Tsar, force abortions on the populace, and oppress the masses.

After that, presents! Woohoo! All are invited!

Posted by iamcoyote at September 4, 2007 09:36 AM

Damn phid, sounds like that Halloween party we attended last year!
Or was that the new punk, "Wag the Dog" play we saw earlier?

Posted by Seven of Six at September 4, 2007 09:43 AM

130 is a series of by-passes (tolled). The Trans-Texas Corridor is Rick "bush" Perry's grand scheme to build a huge multi lane highway from Mexico to OKLA (some other maniac will need to take it from there). The TTC is not yet in construction, pending the parcelling up of all the farmland in its path to GOP friendly politicians and Hiway Construction Magnates.
As for the MexTruck deal.....pure Bush. Build a giant fence to keep Mexicans out, except for the giant gate to drive the broke-down trucks full of Mexicans in.

Posted by T2 at September 4, 2007 10:05 AM

Building North American "superhighways" as the world passes peak oil production and exports are ALREADY constricting....what madness.

Can one even imagine the slightest outline of how bad things will look in BushAmerica even a decade from now?

Posted by Seven of Six at September 4, 2007 11:48 AM

Ah...sounds familiar. Something about blaming Mike Brown and then a video tape showing Brownie and crew giving Bush a thorough briefing.

This still doesn't get Bremer off the hook. When I saw a picture of him in Iraq wearing sunglasses and black cowboy boots, I knew we were in trouble.

Posted by Daryl at September 4, 2007 12:06 PM

The great thing about history is that the Bremers of the world, the Great Movers N' Shakers of Catastrophe, are never "off the hook". Bremer's going to be forever savaged, and he is well aware of it.

He's doin' what he can to try to curry a bit of sympathy now. I doubt it'll do much for his blackened reputation as a Bushist Stooge par excellence, but hopefully he'll keep thrashing, just for the laughs and the little bit of satisfaction it brings to see Nero jr proven, once again, to be a bare-faced, pathological, psychotic liar of almost incomprehensible depth.

Just as Shakespeare almost certainly thought in blank verse, Bush "thinks" in lies.
