Great job, Erin. I hope Dobson is left standing on a street corner somewhere with no one to endorse this cycle. That would be soooo cool.
Posted by Jeff Dinelli at September 13, 2007 08:14 AMSeems like a snub from Thompson to me. Not very bright, is he?
But "churchmanship?" WTF is that? Some kinda contact sport or sumpin?
Posted by iamcoyote at September 13, 2007 08:20 AMThe right-wingers who call themselves Christians do not really care about a candidate's religious beliefs or practices. They preferred the unchurched Reagan to the Baptist preacher Carter. They only care that the candidate supports and promotes their medieval views on race, sex and personal freedom.
Dobson is to Christianity what McDonald's is to the hamburger: a very large corporation supported by massive and relentless marketing and a product that is a pale imitation of what it purports to be.
And every day millions of Americans eat it up.
Posted by James E. Powell at September 13, 2007 08:21 AMPowell is correct. These Religious Nut Wingers only want someone to espouse their hate-based views. If Thompson will do that, he'll be good with them. I mean, Giuliani, who has no bonifides with them is still getting support because he'll do what they want... for votes. Just like the alcoholic coke-head we now have in the WH did.
Posted by T2 at September 13, 2007 08:46 AMExactly, James. The evangelical christian right totally scares me. And T2, you're probably right, they'll still find someone to latch onto, even though Rudy is pro-choice, Mitt's a Mormon, Fred doesn't go to church and used to work for a pro-choice group. They should stick with their guns and endorse Huckabee, he doesn't even believe in evolution, he's right up their alley. Then they WOULD be on the curb during the general.
Posted by Jeff Dinelli at September 13, 2007 09:24 AMThis is classic "What's the Matter With Kansas?" The religious right bigwigs pretend that what is important to them are a candidate's religious habits and stance on conservative social issues, but they'll endorse anyone who serves their financial desires. And the voters will follow Dobson's direction on who to vote for without a thought. Vote to end abortion? Get tax cuts for the wealthy ministers!
Posted by ann at September 13, 2007 09:28 AMWell, the Dobsons and the Hannitys may have no problem, in the end, with the GOP candidates' lack of piety, but the mass of everyday xtians out there are offended by multiple divorces, and lobbying for abortion rights groups and mistresses living in Gracie Mansion. They won't vote Dem, but they may just stay away altogether.
Posted by iamcoyote at September 13, 2007 09:32 AM"...no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."
Right.
Posted by cnmne at September 13, 2007 10:23 AMThank you Jay-sus...A Republican I could Vote For!!!
Posted by suds at September 13, 2007 11:11 AM---at least I would if there weren't so damn many good Democratic alternatives.
Posted by suds at September 13, 2007 11:13 AMSpeaking of alcoholics, is it just me, or does Thompson have the look of a heavy drinker? Not sure, but I think it's those bags under the eyes.
Posted by Julie at September 13, 2007 11:34 AMWell, Julie, he does have cancer, doesn't he?
Posted by iamcoyote at September 13, 2007 12:02 PMCancer? Alcoholic? The Fred? Say it ain't so! He just hasn't found God yet. Or maybe it's that 19-year-old blonde he's married to.
Ladies, I have more Obama stuff to share but I'm afraid. I should probably keep it to myself, huh? I don't wanna lose anymore friends.
Posted by Jeff Dinelli at September 13, 2007 12:21 PMBut "churchmanship?" WTF is that? Some kinda contact sport or sumpin?
It is if you do it properly. Right, Sen. Craig?
Posted by bartcopfan at September 13, 2007 12:45 PMAnd, yep, spot on, JEP!
Posted by bartcopfan at September 13, 2007 12:47 PMthe religious crowd will choose either Romney or
Huckabee, but personally I dont trust any governor of Arkansas...we've had our fill of that kind of trash...anyway Huckabee is much nicer and far less corrupt surely...
hopefully a patriot will come forth and help America choose the correct person for president by making sure that some cannot be elected.
Fred Thompson is a dope...
