Jeez. I wish I could say the same for Iowa and Iowa State fans. Tomorrow is the state grievance contest in Ames, my new home. People will be absolutely nuts, drunk, angry - and the troopers will be out everywhere.
And ISU is guaranteed to lose to their visitor - they've been beat by Kent State and Northern Iowa this year, and they just replaced former coach McCarney with Gene Chizik.

Plus you can't participate in the sweetcorn eating contest.
They canceled it to promote better eating habits.
Silly !!

I can't say it enough times, you always take me back home with fond remembrance.
Before I went in the Army, while living in Santa Maria, I took my 15 year old nephew to Laguna Seca to see a Grateful Dead show. His first Dead show, and the last time I saw Garcia.
Of course I ran into old Bay Area friends from Prospect High School.
Another week of football coming up!
Posted by Seven of Six at September 14, 2007 10:23 AMWhy Oakland has such a lartge Black population: It always did from its more industrial days. San Francisco used to have a much larger Black population, but I think immigration of both Asians and Latinos along with "urban renewal" shifted many to the East Bay. Richmond used to be very heavily Black but is now trending Latino. Oakland has remained Black, probably gained in percentage, although there is some migration back to the South where property and living costs are cheaper. I think this is because of white flight, now somewhat counteracted by desirable areas near BART stations. Oaklabnd also has a tradition of Black politicians, more so than the other Bay Area cities.
Posted by Mimikatz at September 14, 2007 10:29 AMGreat post, Paradox, you paint a remarkable picture. I almost felt as if I were there in that tailgating mob. Glad you and your nephew had a good time despite the defeat at the hands of the Honolulu Blue and Silver.
SoS, join us tomorrow night, don't forget, you'll get my lock of the week!

And right around the corner...
"My nephew is an Oakland resident of the very tony Montclair district..."
Very tony?
What is wrong with this picture?
Paradox, your suffering from whiplash at this moment...right?
