Comments: Eli Pariser Steps Up

How about running a follow up ad on Paul Hunt donating $35 million to W's libary and getting the Iraqi oil rights in return?

Or would that go over Joe 30-pack's head?

Why is is so damned HARD for Democrats, on the Sunday Morning conventional wisdom hour, to just respond to hysterical attacks on the MoveOn ad by pointing out that these same hyperventilating blow-dried, blowhards screetching outrage about lines being crossed are the very same creatures who have accused Democrats and (never-to-be-sufficiently-damned) LIBERALS of being traitorous, appeasing surrender monkeys who can't wait to SURRENDER to the terr'rist, hate America, the "troops" God, Mom and Apple Pie for YEARS!

It's NOT that hard to point out the mind boggling hypocrisy of the Republican operatives masquerading as pundits and journalists taking offense at language that is almost infinitely more restrained and thoughtful than ANY week's output from their flying fingers of filth.

My short answer to Timmy Russert asking for denouncement of the moveon ad: Well Tim, MoveOn is an organization of almost 4 million Americans expressing an understandable sense of outrage over the deceitful loss of American lives and treasure in a war that was never necessary and which should never have been fought. While I may not have chosen to use the language they did, as soon as the same people who for years, have continually accused Democrats and anyone opposed to this ill conceived war of being traitors, appeasers and even surrender monkeys, stop their own disgraceful behavior, I will try to work up enough outrage over this grassroots ad.

Now, would THAT be so hard?

Democrats only use Republican attack tactics against other Democrats. Just ask Howard Dean.

Most glaring of all is the monstrous stupidity of the American public assumed and demanded by the tactic

When it comes to social, economic and political matters, the American public is, more often than not, monstrously stupid.

And I didn't see the MoveOn ad as immature or wrong in any way. What was wrong was that the "leaders" who know it was correct, who agree with its statement, refused to endorse and echo it.

Time after time after fu*king time we see Democrats and liberals bringing a knife to a gun fight. Its like a fight between the Democratic boy scouts versus the ReThug Hell's Angels.

I am disgusted by the pearl-clutching, hankie-wringing COWARDS who refuse to stand up for the Republic.

And to those who think we shouldn't "stoop" to the level of the ReThugs, pray tell how are we to save our Republic? You think the korporate media is going to call foul? pathetic!

Hate to post for a third time so quickly, but part of the reason the ReThugs are successful is that they are passionate about what they believe (however evil it is).

Americans look at Democrats and liberals as effete, too weak to stand up for what they believe and too disorganized to stand up together.

DeminNewJ,

He shoots, he scores! And I bet you didn't have to read any polls, or filter it through any focus groups.

You are just one of over a million examples of a blogger or commenter on a blog writing a better speech or response than all the highly paid consultants and speech writers put together.

I stand by my earlier statement regarding the monstrous stupidity of the American public as a collective entity, but we do have individuals, plenty of them, who can think, write and speak with intelligence and wisdom.

James,

One of a million? I am wounded! Of course, I can't disagree. The Beltway Wormtongues are the greatest cancer on the body politic in a society that all too closely resembles the 1931 Weimar Republic. Thanks, I think.

"You are just one of over a million examples of a blogger or commenter on a blog writing a better speech or response than all the highly paid consultants and speech writers put together."

James E. Powell, hear hear, well said. DeminNewJ. just wrote the talking point for every Democrat. Of course, they will never use it.

"What was wrong was that the "leaders" who know it was correct, who agree with its statement, refused to endorse and echo it."

James, how right you are on that one too.

Support MoveOn.org with you money. If politicians won't stand up, then give your money to people who will do it for you.

Paradox, thank you for your words. Well said, and expresses exactly what I feel.

What everyone said. Mwah, para.

Given that the Democrats are how they are, I don't see how the moveon.org ad was a wise thing to do.

Why run the ad without before changing the response pattern of Democrats? It doesn't make sense.

Late addition.

If the Democrat "leaders" and spokes-creatures don't want to use DeminNewJ to help them learn how to talk in the teevee, maybe they can learn from Chuck Hagel (clipped from Crooks and Liars):

Maher: Isn’t a dirty trick on the American people when you send a military man out there to basically do a political sell-job?”

Hagel: It’s not only a dirty trick, but it’s dishonest, it’s hypocritical, it’s dangerous and irresponsible. The fact is this is not Petraeus’ policy, it’s the Bush’s policy. The military is — certainly very clear in the Constitution — is subservient to the elected public officials of this country.. but to put our military in a position that this administration has put them in is just wrong, and it’s dangerous.
