I'm watching the Cal-Arizona game. Go Bears!!!
Posted by paradox at September 22, 2007 06:05 PMQuick clarifier on my post, HE went 4 out of 5 last week, meaning SoS. Not we. I had nothing to do with it. Typo. The guy certainly doesn't need my help.
Posted by Jeff Dinelli at September 22, 2007 06:16 PMYay Seahawks! Double yay Rude Pundit! He's my idol, doncha know. So are you guys (and girl woohoo) for doing this every Saturday. Everyone needs a to take a break from the fight at least once a week.
So, Bengals are gonna be the losers, for sure. Looks like they've got a few problems. Hopefully, Shaun Alexander can git 'er done this week.
Posted by iamcoyote at September 22, 2007 06:26 PMYeah, Jeff, SoS knows the good bets. Next time I go to Vegas, he's coming with.
Posted by iamcoyote at September 22, 2007 06:28 PMThank God Cal won. If the Seahawks lose The Rude One will still get something.
Posted by paradox at September 22, 2007 06:44 PMI already put in my contribution, paradox!
Posted by iamcoyote at September 22, 2007 07:05 PMI am back from my furtive Costa Rica offshore bet. I have no idea what to do except place a straight bet, the Seahawks are at -3, damn I hate taking points, and I don't know what -115 for the game means.
I rarely gamble. Last time I did it 6 years on a cruise ship, amazingly, I won $250 at roulette, that was fun, I gave $200 of it to our waiter.
Whatever. We'll see what happens. I know it's irrational behavior, get outta here with that, are you telling me it's a rational world?
Posted by paradox at September 22, 2007 07:09 PMI totally love the Seahawks pick -3.5, I don't care if the quarterback is a Bushie. My other locks besides the beloved Cowboys are Packers +5, Texans +6 and Steelers -9.
I'm even glad the Cal Golden Bears won, what the hell. I am full of good will tonight.
Posted by Jeff Dinelli at September 22, 2007 07:11 PMParadox that means if you win you get $100, if you lose you lose $115. Juice.
Posted by Jeff Dinelli at September 22, 2007 07:55 PMOh yes, here with some picks:
And I thought I would play fair, no straight up games this week. My 4 games are:
Arizona +8 in Baltimore
Dallas +3 in Chicago (lock) (I do think the Cowboys will win straight up)
Green Bay +4.5 at home against San Diego (Jeff, if your paper is up to 5 that means all the early action in Vegas has been on the Chargers, I'll take it!)
Tennessee +4 at New Orleans
I'm a bit more skeptical on the Seahawks this week. I think Cincy has a shot. Just a perspective.
That Houston is a dangerous pick as well. The Colts almost got beat last week by Tennessee and I think it woke them up. Unless the Texans game plan is better and their defense plays really tough, they could make the spread, just too many if's.
Have fun!
Posted by Seven of Six at September 22, 2007 09:07 PMJeff, Looks like they take straight up bets in Costa Rica.
In that case I'll take New England to win heads up against Buffalo! Pay more but the return is almost a sure bet.
I'm also staying away from the Niner's. Their defense is great at times but so is the Pittsburgh offense.
Posted by Seven of Six at September 22, 2007 09:24 PMI'll go with the Boys with the Stars and that great Patriot team. Junior Favre's rep will begin to take hold on that legendary field with another fine performance.
Posted by peter at September 22, 2007 09:59 PMJesus, I just watched "Bobby", the movie of RFK's last day. I was only eight, but did that bring back memories, some very sad. We haven't learned a thing, have we...
Posted by tempus at September 22, 2007 10:02 PMHas football season started again? When your home team is the Eagles, you sort of lose interest.
Posted by DeminNewJ at September 23, 2007 03:52 AMHey paradox,
How's about a link to whatever the next time you decide to get your undies in a twist? Once I read about the spectacular non-event about which you were whining I pitied myself for wasting the time. Why is it that pro sports yammering has to show up in blogs on everything else? I'm sure you care but ya know: It just doesn't matter!
I like your Zona and Pack plus points bets.
You lost me when gave up da points and dissed da Bears in their lair. Grossman graces the pages of that giant volume of "Famous Jewish Athletes", and today is his most sacred day of atonement.
Cowboy $ will sleep with the carp in the Chicago River.
uRcoyote: Has that Cardinal applied turpentine evaporated yet? You OK to sit down for the next game?
Posted by TIKI AL at September 23, 2007 05:54 AMTIKI, ya brat! Yeah, I think I'll make it through the next game, but as we know, this is a Seattle team, and they all know how to build up hope only to have them dashed. Maybe that's why we're still blue, we can handle disappointment better than most.
Posted by iamcoyote at September 23, 2007 06:42 AM"build up hopes only to have them dashed."
Bill Bidwell wrote the book on this sports phenomena.
Anyone who gets "behind" the Cardinals eventually ends up in Walgreens buying an inflatible ass donut.
Posted by TIKI AL at September 23, 2007 07:07 AMOn another note, how strange is it that Hillary Clinton is virtually the ONLY guest on all three network news interviews shows?
Without descending to Reynolds and Alcoa chapeaux, the reports that Hillary is the choice of the Corporate media seems to get a boost today. Whether it's because they have all their "talking points" all ready and waiting, or something else, it seems odd that a single candidate for the Primary race out of OVER 15 and still counting, get exclusive exposure, three months before a single vote is to be cast.
That's not an 800 lb. gorilla, it's Godzilla!
Posted by DeminNewJ at September 23, 2007 07:16 AMHey Paradox --
As a life long Broncos fan, I take offense at your diss of Mike Shanahan. While I'm not a big fan of his (too much Tom Landry ice water in his veins) you are way off base on this.
Shanahan did what any coach does -- call time out before the kick, to ice the kicker. That the refs had their heads up their collective butts and allowed the play to proceed is not coach Shanahan's fault. He was signaling time out several seconds before the snap, but the blind zebras were ordering donuts or something.
Other than that, I too was disappointed and pissed that the Raiders were robbed -- but Jankowski still could have made the second attempt.
I was also pulling for the Bills in week 1 -- the Broncos are a decent 10 and 6 team, but they would profit from an 8 and 8 season.
Go Raiders, Go Seahawks, Go Chargers, Go Iggles, Go Bills, and Go Broncos!!!
May the hated Patriots miss the playoffs . . .
Posted by -ck- at September 23, 2007 09:56 AMPersonally a couple years ago when the 'Hawks went to the Big Show, I thought it looked as if it were scripted for the Steelers to win for Bill and the Bus. The second half was suspect....kinda like when Sugar Ray the Lesser won on points against Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
Posted by theExile at September 23, 2007 12:49 PMWhat do I know about football....'cept if it aint the Pats or the Colts...its all garbage!!...oh and take the Bears and lay three.....Tony "just don't snap the ball to me" Romo ...right, this aint the Giants of the Fish!! IMO..LOL
Posted by Goyo at September 23, 2007 04:52 PMWoohoo, Seahawks take it! Yay for Rude Pundit!
Posted by iamcoyote at September 23, 2007 07:44 PMI want to know how Paradox feel now about the Bronco's. Seems his team did the same thing today. Tarnished victory or just football. What a game for Junior "Favre", Tony had another glorious week on the field.
How bout them Cowboys!!!
Posted by peter at September 23, 2007 09:16 PMPeter, I am rolling in dough right now thanks to Romo. I've never been this far ahead at the beginning of a season.
Posted by Jeff Dinelli at September 24, 2007 09:27 AMAs far as the Raider thing goes I have only one thing to say - wtf? I even tried looking around with google and I still have no idea what you are talking about.
I stopped being an NFL fan years ago when they put a brain damaged monkey in charge of the Vikings and allowed him to stock the Dallas Clownboys up for a couple of stuporbowl rings.
Don't know if it is intentional all the time but the refs do try to keep the season interesting. All sports officials have their favorites. Check the highlights - MJ traveling to a dunk, Some guy called for cross-checking because he touched Gretzky, the Yankee strike zone - but the NFL is the worst.
