Comments: GOP: War Yes, Kids No

I'm sure the Dems will go right along with Gate's request. Of course Pelosi will have her normal excuses.

One would think that the Republican still had control of Congress and the pResident had an approval rating of 68%. Go figure.

One would think that the Republican still had control of Congress.....

You mean they don't? LMAO!

The LIEberman-Kyl ammendment passed 72 -22. Apparently, they did trim it's sails a bit. According to TPM

The bill's backers had tried to mollify its critics by taking out some of its most incendiary language, particularly the idea that "it should be the policy of the United States to combat, contain, and roll back the violent activities and destabilizing influence inside Iraq of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, its foreign facilitators such as Lebanese Hezbollah, and its indigenous Iraqi proxies."

Also removed from the measure was a provision "to support the prudent and calibrated use of all instruments of United States national power in Iraq, including diplomatic, economic, intelligence, and military instruments" in support of the above.

HOWEVER, left in the amendment was the bizarre language declaring Iran's Revolutionary Guard an established organ of the Iranian government as a terrorist organization.

Gentlemen of the KRISTIAN Air Force, start your engines. The Crusade is on! The good old 2002, AUMF says Cheney can swat whatever he wants, if'n it's a terr'rist.

DeminNewJ - you beat me on this one. For those that want to see the sausage being made, here's the Senate Roll Call.

Hate to say "I told ya." But the Senate has just given Cheney another very good day with this green light to Target Iran. Hillary once again shows her true colors. (And Obama weaseled out - not a good sign)

The Lieberman-Kyl Iran amendment moves the country that much closer to war with Iran.

Hillary voted for it. Obama didn't vote (that's two important votes missed in a row.)

The 110th Congress has made a deal with the devil.

Don't worry about Hillary. Once the bombing starts she'll say she was misled, but sidestep admitting an error.

Posted by T2 at September 26, 2007 12:43 PM

Hate to say "I told ya."

Riiiight. Well, the bombs aren't falling yet.

And the answer to the question you're asking yourself - "I am a bad person for hoping we bomb Iran just so I can say 'neener neener' to coyote?" is "Yes, you are."

More inspiring news! The House passed a resolution condemning those MoveOn meanies 341-179!

Again, over at TPM's Election Central, it wasn't NANCY's fault!

Late Update: A House aide writes in to say that the Dem leadership did not in fact allow this vote. Rather, it was forced by a GOP procedural maneuver: GASP!

"Democrats had given no signal of allowing a vote, but using a `motion to recommit' procedural motion, which they are automatically allowed on every bill and which does not need to be announced beforehand, Republicans forced a vote to attach the language to the continuing resolution that funds the government as a stop gap while the Senate passes the final appopriations bills."

How DO those clever Republicans keep giving wedgies to the hapless Democrats. I mean, Who could have predicted a move like that? Oh well, as long as it's being voted on, we'd better follow along. We mustn't look weak, after all!

The Kyl-Lieberman Amendment is a "Sense of the Senate" amendment. It doesn't empower Dick Cheney or anyone else to treat the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization.

Posted by snark at September 26, 2007 01:25 PM

I thought that the Bush/Cheney Admin officially declared the RevGuard a terror org several months ago? Besides, they could care less.

Posted by T2 at September 26, 2007 01:27 PM

Words have consequences, Snark. The Cheney Administration doesn't need much of a fig leaf.

I imagine this will do just fine for the Echo Machine, aka The Mighty Wurlitzer, to begin the assault on sense.

to begin the assault on sense.

Begin?

Posted by iamcoyote at September 26, 2007 01:32 PM

Words have consequences, Snark.

Yes, they do. And since everyone here is talking about it as if these words have the force of law why should the MSM do otherwise.

Continue as you were.

War on Iran will be as illegitimate as the failed Afghan, Iraq & Lebanon wars. It'll waste lives & resources, alienate allies, help enemies & harm America.
Those people living on top of "our" resources now have effective defense. Repeated failures in the American way of war, so remunerative to Congress patrons, makes them hate us more but fear us less. They got our number.
Both Democratic and Republican leaders know this, but they'd rather preside over a national catastrophe than watch America succeed on their way to the glue factory where they belong.

Riiiight. Well, the bombs aren't falling yet.

Riiiight. indeed.

American tanks will be rolling up Keshavarz Blvd. and the dipshit coyote will belching her characteristic, delusional lunacy, "the tanks are just delivering medicine and beer."

Wrooooong. LOL!

Posted by Christopher at September 26, 2007 04:05 PM

Wrooooong. LOL!

So, all those dead people leaves you giggling like an imbecile, eh? You're one sick fuck, Christopher.

Posted by iamcoyote at September 26, 2007 04:38 PM

Wrong again, Princess Doppleganger.

Anyone who advocates marrying a family member is the pan-ultimate sick fucker and that, is YOU.

Neeeeeeext?

Posted by Christopher at September 26, 2007 04:41 PM

This seems familiar...who else is overly concerned about one guy's fuck habits and the legality of marriage, while giggling maniacally about dead innocents in a Middle Eastern country? Can't quite put my finger on it...

But hey, thanks for proving me right, Christopher. Geez, you're so easy, there's hardly any sport in it.

Posted by iamcoyote at September 26, 2007 06:15 PM

Anyone who advocates marrying a family member is the pan-ultimate sick fucker...

Marriage to a second cousin is legal in every state of the union. You're a bit out of touch Christopher.

I understand your need to change the subject though.
