I read the whole thing this morning, Mary, and it seemed to be a rehash of all that's been written so far. The Cheney Gang are hoping for some kind of action by Iran to give them an excuse to attack. We already knew that. Too bad they've been calling Iran terrorists for years, so the "plan" to go after Iran's army by labeling them terrorists won't fool anyone. Hersh does confirm Clemons' claim that Bush hasn't given the "execute" order yet, so that's good news.
I found a great article about how Iran's the winner of the Iraq occupation here.

And the winner is? Religious nutcases. GWB and OBL or the Iranian friendly Shia. Not the most difficult choice in the world. (Of course, that assumes that this country can get beyond the DC true bipartisan sport of threatening and demonizing Iran.)
Now we're on to trying to read the tea leaves for what Bu$hCo will do, if anything, about Iran
Posted by Marie at September 30, 2007 05:40 PMHuh. Never noticed you were writing for TLC in '05, Marie. The essay I linked to had a little bit more information than just "religious nutcases," if anyone's interested. Obviously, Iran was going to benefit from the invasion, everyone knew that in '02. And it's funny, I just found a Hersh article in April '06 that Bush was going to bomb Iran with nukes. It was billed as a "major scoop." Amazing how long the imminent attack has been "imminent." One would think that after all these false alarms people would be more skeptical. I guess we'll see if Ari Fleisher's group can get the ball rolling. Ultimately, we'll find out who's really the president, Bush or Cheney.
Posted by iamcoyote at September 30, 2007 06:29 PMCommon knowledge for years has been that NeoCons planned to take over oil fields in Iran, Syria and the rest of the Middle East; doesn't anybody remember that? America is the new USSR, Nazi Germany. I wonder why LC'rs are shocked. If we nuke Iran, they won't nuke us back; but some other country will, like Arkansas.
How can anybody stand living in Seattle?
Posted by Mal Feasance at September 30, 2007 08:08 PMcoyote, I think Mal needs to be set straight about the joys of living in one of the loveliest cities in the world.
Personally, what I like when I visit are the exceptional gardens, beautiful lakes, Puget Sound, the grand trees (how can anyone not be impressed with the huge leaves of the big leaf maples??), how pretty UW is in the fall, good coffee shops, etc. But then there is that traffic....
Posted by Mary at September 30, 2007 09:08 PMTraffic is crazy, that's for sure, Mary. But after living everywhere in the country, I've decided this is the best place for me. Mild weather, nice people, beautiful landscapes, progressive politics... Of course, we have a nuclear sub base here, so we're a target, but I guess I'd rather be taken out in the first wave than try to live in the aftermath.
Mal, no one's shocked anymore about what Cheney's gang is capable of; but Bush is stubborn. If he's the Decider, and someone tries to tell him Cheney's making a decision, he's going to dig in his heels. Besides, as Michael Hirsh (sp) just said on the Young Turks, if Iraq is supposed to be Bush's legacy, he knows an Iran attack will blow it up further, and hopefully, he doesn't want that to happen.
Posted by iamcoyote at October 1, 2007 05:49 AMThe curious thing is that cheney quite often goes behind bush's back and does some serious things without telling him.
The other problem is I don't bush has the balls to stand up to Cheney if Cheney is in full rant mode.
Posted by tempus at October 1, 2007 07:55 AMY'all Seattle is fine, I'm just too sober. It's like going to another part of the world. And that's what depresses me. I'd love to live here, instead of Northern Virginia, really! The traffic can't top NV.
I was kinda sad to see so many Hispanic laborers waiting outside Home Depot at Shoreline waiting for a job. Why, it's just like home. Poor dudes just want a job for the day.
How soon will it be us, waiting for job? Hanging out, in the cold and rain....
I do love Seattle!!!! I'm taking a ferry ride on the Puget Sound in a few days!
