As before: I'll believe it when I see it.
Posted by gtash at October 2, 2007 01:30 PMI just love Boehner's expression of displeasure at the suggestion of a tax surcharge to pay for the (wildly overbudget, debilitatingly expensive, failed) Afghan and Iraq wars:
"...some of the most irresponsible public policy I've seen in a long, long time."
Well, yeah, I guess it has been a "long, long time" that the US government's been saying, "Oh, just charge it." Boehner and most DC machers don't know from responsible public policy. It's not what they're paid for.
Posted by Pvt. Keepout at October 2, 2007 02:14 PMSteve, did you miss this?
"At the same time, there is no consensus about the pace of any U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq. In July, nearly six in 10 said they wanted to decrease the number of troops there, but now a slim majority, 52 percent, think Bush's plan for removing some troops by next summer is either the right pace for withdrawal (38 percent) or too hasty (12 percent would like a slower reduction, and 2 percent want no force reduction). Fewer people (43 percent) want a quicker exit."
Your funding issue doesn't equal removing the troops. Your readers may have liked this info too.
Posted by peter at October 2, 2007 02:45 PMNo Peter, I didn't miss it. Seventy percent of adults are against a fully funded blank check, which is what Bush wants. If that is what the GOP wants to push between now and next year, I gleefully encourage them to do so.
Posted by Steve Soto at October 2, 2007 03:00 PMIs it any wonder that Bush will slither away from any public recognition that he vetoed the SCHIP bill?
Jesus, Steve, he has slithered away from destroying our economy, our military, our constitution, and our future. He continues to slither away from having caused the worst avoidable strategic and humanitarian debacle of our young 21st century. Moreover, the media/congressional slitheration enabling machine is giving him a big wet kiss for his next fucking war.
Yeah, I'm sure he'll be totally shamed over SCHIP. He might even break a nail during his bike ride. Or cry on his special AF1 pillow for a moment or two, while being serviced by his latest gannon.
The media will surely be all over his pain and moral grappling and of course, resultant triumphant boldness.
Omg, Hitler kicked a kitten - that'll bring down the Reich for sure!
Posted by Sharkbabe at October 2, 2007 04:26 PMSCHIP = State Childrens Health Insurance Program.
Let me ask you Leftists: what is the definition of the word "child."
The present incarnation of SCHIP extends coverage to "children" up to the age of 25.
Now, I know that you folks are always trying to re-define the meaning of the word "is." But can we all get together and agree that a 25 year old individual is not a "child.
Posted by Bagley at October 2, 2007 05:14 PMI'm glad you and yours are set for life, Bagley, and that none of this will affect any of you ever.
No, a 25 year old is not a child. But in many cases, nor is s/he able to make his/her way financially, having been showered with the benefits of a Conservative Opportunity Society (crushing student debt, job ladder no longer there, everything's in India and China, but we do have great openings at Applebee's and the Quicky Mart...)
Christ, is this the best troll argument against SCHIP? Like if you're in your early twenties and get t-boned by some car, you can just fuck off if you're not as lucky as the truly deserving Americans such as DIck Cheney?
Just, damn.
Posted by Sharkbabe at October 2, 2007 05:37 PMI go with gtash: I'll believe action by Congressional Democrats against the illegal, aggressive war in Iraq when I see it.
We've heard their supposedly serious plans to end the war before. What we've seen is voting for war funds and condemnation of Move-on.
Posted by mmeo at October 2, 2007 05:40 PM"No, a 25 year old is not a child."
Well, a point of agreement!
But why call it State Childrens Health Insurance Program (SCHIP)? Perhaps a bit of slight-of-hand on the part of the Leftists?
"I'm glad you and yours are set for life, Bagley..."
Yes, hard work...more hard work...and even more hard work...and then....well, my life has been blessed.
P.S. "Like if you're in your early twenties and get t-boned by some car..."
Actually, your automobile insurance would take care of this instance. Automobile insurance is a prerequisite to driving legally.
Or are you advocating that Government pay automobile insurance premiums?
Posted by Bagley at October 2, 2007 05:55 PMGood that you're hardworking and blessed. Good for your life and your luck working well. Pay no attention to the flames and increasing piles of ruined lives around you. They are simply less worthy and blessed. Step over them and feel happy and proud.

Sharkbabe,
Anger management issues?
See a counselor.

Aren't you one of those people who are all for the pre-born but despise pre-schoolers?

No, not at all. But I do see it as an improvement that you are willing to acknowledge the "pre-born." Implicitly you see these innocents as human beings.
Bravo!
P.S. Do you identify 25 year olds as "pre-schoolers?"
Posted by Bagley at October 2, 2007 06:23 PMAnger management - wow, ooh, got me.
It's sad, the institutional death of empathy. We'll get it back in this country, when we're all on the fucking bread lines together once again, even you and me Bagley. I will be too decent to even say I told you so.
Posted by Sharkbabe at October 2, 2007 06:26 PMAnd good night to you and your blessings, Bagley. Really, I wish you continuing well.
Posted by Sharkbabe at October 2, 2007 06:28 PM"Really, I wish you continuing well."

Goodnight all.
Thanks for the bandwidth, Steve.

Hey Baggy, just in case you didn't know it, your auto insurance doesn't pay your medical bills, which was the topic.
Well, I guess bags doesn't like all the military babies.
You know the ones that get a military I.D. if they stay in school until age 23... or is it age 25 now? These same military babies who also get full medical care if they stay in school?
I mean if it's good for our (23 year old) military babies isn't it good for the rest of America's (23 year old) babies?

Now...now...Mr. Baguns:
"Implicitly you see these innocents as human beings."
Just as I'm sure you see the innocents of Iraq as human beings and oppose that war--and all wars, for that matter--given the possibility of accidentally performing abortions via laser-guided missile, etc.
Do you have anything in your literature on how to avoid abortions by guided missile or god only knows what else? What advice would you give Iraqi women?

Funny, though - you seem to have no problem with the mis-named PATRIOT act. Or No Child Left Behind. Or any of the rest of the clustercheneys with wildly appropriate names that were rammed through Congress when the Republican'ts controlled all of the levers of power. Just the one that might be a tad innaccurate for about, oh, 2% of the people affected, that was brought forth by Democratic politicians. What's that word again? Hyp-, hypocr-, Republican't! Yeah, that's it...
If it smells like Republican't slime and deflect, and looks like Republican't slime and deflect, then some of us might actually think it's a Republican't slime and deflect operation. Funny how that works...
Anything else Rush and Hannity told you to lie about on progressive blogs today?
