"...If the Democrats were smart...."
HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa, please, no more, NO MORE
Posted by Gay Veteran at October 15, 2007 12:25 PMI think you're being a bit harsh on them on this Steve.
In one of your linked articles is this;
"A compromise to the president means, in all due respect to him, ...'Do it my way,' " she (Speaker Pelosi) said on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos. "One thing's for sure," she said. "We won't rest until those 10 million children have health care."
I'm just not quite sure what you wanted her to say. The public doesn't really care to hear that the Dems are gonna send the same bill back and make Bush veto it again. I know I don't anyway. Should she have said she's just gonna table the issue? That's not gonna score any plus points for a Congress already polling in the basement.
I'm just not quite sure what you expected her to say on that show.
Snark, I expected her to say that "84% of the American people want SCHIP expanded to cover all uninsured children. We have sent the president a plan to do exactly what the public wants, and he wants to prevent it from becoming law while he wastes twenty times that much in Iraq without results. If the GOP sustains his veto, they can explain their values and priorities to the American people when we send another bill back to him again the following week that does what 84% of the American people want."
Posted by Steve Soto at October 15, 2007 01:34 PMWe all know the president's priorities are out of whack but its up to the congress to set him straight. Even our arch enemies in the Senate, Orrin Hatch and Charles Grassley, support this bill.
What can you do? Tell your representative to override the veto. My organization will be sending them a petition and short ad. I hope you'll sign it.
Posted by Prestin at October 15, 2007 02:20 PMThe only thing she should have said was, we'll see you in November, enjoy the 12 month hammering. THAT would have compelled them to over-ride the veto. Soto has it exactly right, they were let off the hook. Pelosi is being advised by idiots, we need to find out who they are and have them removed immediatly.

Regarding Speaker Nancy, I keep hearing in my head the words attributed to Manager Casey Stengel about his hapless 1962 New York Mets, "Can't anyone here play this game?"
