I say send it up for a vote right now.....screw delays, screw the GOPers.

Posted by goose1 at October 25, 2007 01:31 PMI heard that the republicans are stalling because they didn't have time to read the 300-page bill that they just got this morning (does it have notations in it of what has changed, because that shouldn't be much), and CA reps are in CA because of the fires. This could be a valid argument except that the dems have the simple majority they need to pass it, so they don't care. The republicans can read it in time for the attempted veto-override vote. The dems want something passed before the end of Nov, when schip runs out, so they don't want to wait until next week.
Posted by CG at October 25, 2007 01:44 PMThe gop will never move the country forward. The gop exist to provide government welfare to special interest. If there is a way to exploit the treasury for special interest, the GOP is behind it. If U.S. citizens benefit, the GOP is against it.
The only way to move the country forward is to help the "sane" voting public (the limbaugh and fox listeners are lost) see what the gop and "gop like" Democrats are all about. This issue has more potential to wake up the sane voting public, pulling the corporate media and GOP wool from over their eyes.
The Democrats should let the gop fall in this trap.
Posted by smooth at October 25, 2007 01:51 PMWell, the House passed a revised version of the SCHIP Bill. We'll see.
Posted by snark at October 25, 2007 02:21 PMThe veto chimp commeth, dragging his pen clutching knuckles behind him.
Posted by TIKI AL at October 25, 2007 03:48 PMor support the kids.
Huh? Kids? 25 years old?
You ought to be ashamed.
Posted by jj at October 25, 2007 04:16 PMjj, you against prenatal care for a poor 25 year old woman?
Posted by Sharon at October 25, 2007 04:54 PMThen call it prenatal care for a poor 25 year old woman.
I am surprised that you are that concerned being "prenatal" Prove it.
Posted by jj at October 25, 2007 05:24 PMI'll spend this weekend e-mailing the republican house delegates from Alabama. My representative, Bud Cramer, has not voted against the SCHIP expansion and I count him in the pro column, but the Alabama delegation can only count him and Artur Davis to vote for this. When the vote to override The Withering Azalea's veto failed I was incensed and I, for the first time, placed telephone calls to most of the Alabama republican delegation offices expressing my displeasure with their disregard of childrens health care (which one of my granddaughters depends on).
I have come to believe that being vocal, demonstrative, and open can make a huge difference!
Posted by Tommy Harper at October 25, 2007 05:29 PMThe Republicans will continue to blindlyu follow Bush until thier nominee is determined early next year. After that point, with the primaries (and their base) safely behind them, they will spend the rest of the campiagn season pretending to be moderates in advance of the general election...
...And, given the incompetence of Reid, Pelosi, Schrum et. al., they'll probabaly get away with it. Hello president Rudy, goodbye bill of rights. :(
Posted by herbal tee at October 25, 2007 06:56 PMI just wish Pelosi should understand that she should go on national TV and announce that every time the S-CHIP bill cycles through the Congress, the bill will be expanded to cover more children. More children is better than less children in this case.
Let her ask the Republicans which child they want to let die in misery and pain because they were too depraved to approve the bill. Just which child do they want to address personally that they don't belong in the life raft, because the Republicans would rather pour the money into the Mesopotamian morass.
Let Bush know that the bill on his desk now is the best bill he will see (from his twisted perspective) and that he'd better sign it. The next bill which lands on his desk will be less to his liking, but his stooges on the Hill will be feeling the hot winds of public opinion, like the Santa Ana fires, ready to burn away the corruption.

It's a good fantasy. It's good politics. And. it. will. never. happen.

Oh sure.. just ask them if they read the Patriot Act before the voted for it. That should squelch that line of nonsense. I will say, that I would never allow a vote on a bill before every voting member had read it. But that's just me.
