...specifically for her on drivers’ licenses for illegal immigrants.
People should really try to avoid labelling this issue this way. It's not like Spitzer is proposing to go out and proactively seek out illegal aliens to give them drivers licenses. What he is doing is returning to a policy that existed prior to 9/11/2001 when it was not required to show proof of legal US residency to obtain a drivers license.

Posted by Jeff Dinelli at October 31, 2007 08:59 AMGreat picture by the way, Steve! What is up with that??
Posted by Jeff Dinelli at October 31, 2007 09:14 AMWhat really bugs me are the questions that go something like "Sen Obama, do you think Sen Clinton has an electability problem, and if so, why?" "Sen Edwards, do you think Sen. Clinton is is too divisive?" "Sen Clinton, do you think Sen. Obama is too inexperienced?" Ask questions about their positions. If one candidate wants to say another is unelectable or inexperienced, let them do it on the stump or in an ad. A debate is about the issues. If you want to ask a question about experience or electability, ask it of the candidate it's about and them them defend themselves. Don't feed a question to one candidate to encouraging them to attack another.
Posted by CG at October 31, 2007 09:46 AMOh, and the "will you pledge" questions about things that the president doesn't have sole control over, like "will you pledge that Iran won't get a nuclear weapon?" Someone needs to call them out on those stupid questions.
Posted by CG at October 31, 2007 09:51 AMYesterday's debate was a complete waste of time. Only 30 seconds devoted to education and almost 2 hrs was wasted attacking one candidate.
I see why most people are turned off from politics. American people are the real victims when debates are not about real issues but about personal attacks.
Posted by New Age at October 31, 2007 10:15 AMRight on, snark and CG, good comments. Scarecrow at Firedoglake has a good post up about Dem on Dem violence, unelectibility, and the Repugs.
Posted by Jeff Dinelli at October 31, 2007 10:22 AMYeah, New Age, I'm almost glad I missed this one. Russert is such a tool.
Did Kucinich really talk about his UFO sighting?
Posted by Jeff Dinelli at October 31, 2007 10:24 AMWho cares about UFO, what happen to quality questions on Education, Universal Health Care, Republican culture of corruption, Energy, Global Warming?
Tim Russert and Chris Mattews were so happy about the intensity of personal attacks on Hillary. I have a feeling that more people will be turned off by last night circus and it may even backfire.
Hillary will not "try and simply state what you believe and why the GOP cannot get another four years to further ruin this country" because she is the type to hedge her answers, and that's why I don't support her. There are issues that require hedging, but some should never be hedged because they establish the core of what the candidate is about.
Posted by Prabhata at October 31, 2007 11:36 AMJeff:
She called them out on that gotcha question. This is the second time Russert has pulled one of these and it seemed like every question was framed as anti-Hillary. That's why I'm willing to give her a pass on this debate because they went out of the way to make sure she could not win it.

The country is hemorrhaging and we have to list to answers to these distracting deceitful questions. The Iraq invasion is bankrupting the treasury, healthcare insurance profits are encouraging U.S. job exports while lowering health standards to the bottom of the pack, the budget and current account deficits have made the U.S. a borrower nation that uses social security revenue to hide the total deficit impact, U.S. citizens are spending a record portion of their disposable income and savings are at an all time low, the dollar is nose diving while causing energy cost to go through the roof and the U.S. education system is in shambles. Instead of addressing this impending catastrophe, the corporate media and republicans want to bomb Iran instead, creating an even bigger meltdown. Is this how great countries fall??

"Tribal sovereignty means that. It's sovereign. You're a ... you're a ... you've been given sovereignty and you're viewed as a sovereign entity."
Oh dear, your guy's a moron!
Posted by iamcoyote at October 31, 2007 01:16 PMStupid Tweety does not know what a UFO is.
We had them in Phoenix. Unidentified Flying Objects. They were seen by thousands of people who were not presidential candiates with knock-out wives.
The lights were later identified as bombing flares released by military jets.
In his childish mind Tweety thinks UFOs are little green men in flying saucers from Mars.
And if Tweety keeps up this biased Hillary hating, I will sick Sylvester on his fat ass.
