Exile.. good call.

"I guess what we need to do first is come up with a definition of what a liberal is. Something about believing in individual liberty, rights, equal opportunity, freedom of speech, trying to reduce the power of government and make sure it's fully open and honest, that kind of stuff."

But what is a Proressive?

Posted by Bagley at November 2, 2007 03:32 PM

Bagley, I'm lookin' for definitions, draw one up. Is there a difference between a liberal and a progressive? I just wanted to introduce these crazy lists, what do YOU think?

Posted by Jeff Dinelli at November 2, 2007 04:06 PM

Individual Liberty: Speech codes on college campus and political correctness? Liberal, no but definitely Progressive.

Rights: No vouchers for parents to send their children to non-state-run schools? Liberal, no but definitely Progressive.

Equal Opportunity: Quotas for hiring? Liberal, no but definitely Progressive.

Freedom Of Speech: When will this blog be shut down?

Reduce The Power Of Government: Nationalized healthcare. Liberal, no but definitely Progressive.

Fully Open Government: Hillarycare v1.0? Done in secret. Liberal, no but definitely Progressive.

Honest Government: Depends on the meaning of the word "is" is.

Shall I continue?

Well, I see your problem right there, teabaggy! You think we're still in the '90s. 'Splains a lot.

"Well, I see your problem right there, teabaggy! You think we're still in the '90s."

How so?

Or did you just vomit up your post without thinking?

Posted by Bagley at November 2, 2007 05:38 PM

Maybe I should've put this post up here anonymously, I didn't mean it to be a dissection of Hillary positions, I meant it to be a fun look at two lists. But my name seems to imply "All Hillary Talk, All The Time."

Tough crowd. Should've stuck with the Rock Album list, dilapidus probably would've played along.

I'm in ... second best Stones album? (which would be about sixth overall) Sticky Fingers? Some Girls?

Best non hit? Luxury?

Anyone? Bueller?

Posted by dilapidus at November 2, 2007 06:38 PM

I would go with Sticky Fingers or Let It Bleed.

Best non-hit, good question. Sheesh. Can't You Hear Me Knocking? Or was that a hit?

Posted by Jeff Dinelli at November 2, 2007 06:45 PM

I'm in, too.

Shattered!

Don't mind the fashion!

Posted by iamcoyote at November 2, 2007 06:47 PM

OHHH, good one, Coyote. Thanks for the link!

That "non-hit" idea is great. How about Rip This Joint, Star Star, Parachute Woman.

Weird, I must be a total geek, I thought these Liberal/Conservative lists would've caught some interest, nothing much going on around here.

I wonder if we could get enough votes to compile a Top 100 Albums list? Like over the weekend, even. Doesn't have to be just rock, either, include hip-hop, jazz, country, whatever. Pop music.

I mean, I just didn't wanna write a list about Mukasey being a shoo-in for the next attny gen. Couldn't do it.

Posted by Jeff Dinelli at November 2, 2007 07:04 PM

I meant a Mukasey post, not a list, of course.

Posted by Jeff Dinelli at November 2, 2007 07:12 PM

First of all the best album would be The Allman Brothers, "Eat a Peach". Some live stuff and studio, plus it was a double album.

I'm in ... second best Stones album?

Exile... Let it Bleed, #1.

Best (Stones) non-hit...

"Time Waits for No One", Mick Taylor's licks were great on that song.

SoS, I adore Eat A Peach. I've loved it since I was first introduced to it by a family friend when I was in junior high. I would hope that it would make the list.

But Exile is where musicologists will start when they unearth the essence of rock music hundreds of years from now. Weary, complicated, it may take weeks to understand through the studio murk and drug-induced steadfastness, but it references all the right historical notes; ancient blues, gospel, honky-tonk country, war...all the things that spawned rock and roll.

This is why I love lists. They're non-sensical, but so much fun to discuss and argue about.

And I'm extremely concerned about Sunday night's game in Philly, for My Guy Tony Romo.

What good taste you have. You're right about "Exile on Main Street."

From an album from 1972?
It happened before that.

Yeah, I'd be worried about the Philly game. I have them picked for the upset special.

bagless bagley didn't get it right:

Individual Liberty: Speech codes on college campus and political correctness? today's "conservatives"

Rights: vouchers for parents to send their children to religious schools or segregationist academies? today's "conservatives"

Equal Opportunity: corporate cronyism? today's "conservatives"

Freedom Of Speech: not if you cricitize Dear Leader? today's "conservatives"

Reduce The Power Of Government: torture, rendition, illegal wiretapping? today's "conservatives"

Fully Open Government: Cheney's energy meetings? Done in secret. today's "conservatives"

Honest Government: retoring honor and integrity to the White House? depends on the meaing of "honor" and "integrity" today's "conservatives"

Posted by gay veteran at November 3, 2007 12:25 PM

The list of liberals, at least for the top ten, included people I would never call by that name. All of the top ten Conservatives were movement conservatives. Mark Penn? My god! Who are these people? They say "As a moderate Democrat" if he's a moderate anything its a moderate Corporate attack dog.
