Cue the "You're a fool to believe....the decision's already been made....Cheney...Kyl-Lieberman...green light" teeth gnashers.
Posted by snark at November 5, 2007 12:53 PMI certainly hope your analysis reflects the reality facing Cheney, Addington and the unseen sea of neocon "fabulists" currently infesting virtually all Executive departments and especially, the Department of War.
The "Christian" Dominionists in the Pentagon and the Pentagon's "E-ring" are NOT widely noted for either a grasp on reality or their superior logic. I simply don't believe that Bush's cocaine-addled, gin-soaked brain is concerned about anything as sophisticated and long term as "his legacy". The "Bubble Presidency" is not in contact with the same Earth on which we live.
As is often the case, the lifelong bullshitters eventually lose the ability to recognize bullshit when they step in it. It's just a natural part of their world. They've shown they ARE capable of fantastic leaps of irresponsibility.
We're not out of danger until some "adult" comes along to clean up the messes crapped out by the this maladministration. We'll all be thanking the Gods and Goddesses when somebody like America's Mayor-9/11 is at the helm. At least HE will be taking the reins of power with vast experience in global security and diplomacy! Yep! We've just got to get through the next 13 months and we'll be home free!
Posted by DeminNewJ at November 5, 2007 01:20 PMI think you're right, Steve, there's just no way Bush is going to stick his neck out when he's all alone, no matter how much Cheney prods him to do it.
And maybe Cheney realizes it, too. TPM had a blurb over the weekend noting that at his most recent speech, Cheney didn't mention Iran once.
Posted by iamcoyote at November 5, 2007 02:31 PMBushco diplomacy: "Pervez, you take off that durn uniform, ASAP!"
That'll clear things up.
As out of touch, deranged failures who have led their nations to disaster run out of time, they always turn to a loopy svengali figure that they feel close to for the last drops of bad advice. So far, that's been Cheney. If it's not Cheney, what neocon fuhrer-bunker courtier will it be?
The "legacy". This is truly high comedy.
Posted by euzoius at November 5, 2007 03:35 PMFratboy care about his "legacy"? Bush doesn't give one twit about his legacy. Bush has never cared about the messes he has left behind for others to clean up, and what others might say or think about him.
Posted by Judith at November 5, 2007 05:57 PMvery logical, well written column, but have you already forgotten that they create their own reality?
Posted by gay veteran at November 5, 2007 06:06 PMGeorge Bush most definitely cares about his legacy. Anyone who talks about the historians writing the history of events and who makes as many alusions to historical figures and events as he does certainly has a legacy on his mind.
In fact, I imagine it is his main concern.
Posted by snark at November 5, 2007 07:00 PMWhat will American military troops in Iraq do if/when Turkish troops do cross the Iraq border going after the PKK? What will the Decider decide to do about a war between two "allies"?
