More correctly, he took time out from fund raising for his stooge Senator Cornyn and another political event to visit the wounded. Our beloved king is all heart.
Posted by Sally at November 10, 2007 03:36 AM1 in 4 homeless are Veterans. His new choice for head of the V.A., Gen. Peake, is another crony and was the Army surgeon general presiding over the 2003 Walter Reed crisis. And with the implementation of some of the Dole - Shalala commission's findings this will not benefit the soldier. It will speed up the process, yes, but making a determination on one medical examination will eliminate some soldier's in need.
There is no way that this Administration will do anything and everything to help the soldier. They have already lied about the amount injured from Afghanistan and Iraq. Disabled American Veterans (DAV) claims, "That 30,000 number is a fantasy...202,000 have filed claims for VA disability benefits."
At this point you have to wonder if there is some sick psychosexual pathology going on with Dear Leader.
Posted by gay veteran at November 10, 2007 06:37 AM"Going to fix...."? Excuse me, but didn't he say that months and months ago? Seem to me he should be well on his way to fixing the Veterans system. What a pathological liar.
I want to know which vets he visited, where, when, and I want pictures.
Tried to delete last line, but too late. So the little king actually visited vets. Was that the first time since the War began?

Posted by Judith at November 10, 2007 07:09 AMEven when it's not being cherry picked by Leno, the ignorance of this country is stunning and pervasive. And people are quite satisfied to be ignorant fools as well. A nation of TV-watching shopaholics.
As to the vets, I think I that after a decade or so around 50% of Gulf War vets had filed or been approved for some form of war-related disability. Perhaps SoS can correct me, but that's the REAL casualty rate of soldiers in our imperial wars. People simply have no idea of the long term economic costs involved (which we should of course pay).
But it sure would be great to start cutting these costs out of our future budget by reducing the military by, say, 50% over 10 years and 80% over 15 years. Our insane militarism is total waste of tax revenue, ultimately, and is just another reason why nothing useful can be accomplished by the overburdened federal government.

Posted by Sharon at November 10, 2007 08:13 AMAs long as we are funding our huge military complex, there are wars to fight and machines of death to invent.
Posted by Judith at November 10, 2007 09:12 AMBush, had a shoot-out with the "bad guys" in Iraq on Thursday, playing a computer game with war veterans that simulates a firefight in Baghdad.
Perino said Bush helped "shoot the bad guys" in a Baghdad neighborhood, albeit virtually.
Oh, how quaint. That's the closet he ever came to combat.
Rudy, Rudy, Rudy. You may want to tell your friend Kerik to pull your picture. Not good to have your picture along side a thug.

I am correct with your thinking euz, it will be the Depleted Uranium (DU) cases that come to light.
This will be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
That is of course if the government and V.A. will ever admit to it.
This should come years down the line, much like the "Agent Orange" contamination that Vietnam Vets suffered from for so long.
I plan on seeing Lions for Lambs tomorrow, and my understanding is it depicts how little the brass and politicians care about what happens to our soldiers. It's as though the scales have fallen from my eyes, and I see the truth about our Government and their lack of caring about the needs of soldiers in the field, and veterans. Now I understand why our men and women still don't have armoured vehicles. It's not a high priorty for those in power.
