Comments: GAO: Yes To A Bipartisan Commission

The GAO is apolitical. If I were Hillary, I might mention this in the debate tomorrow.

Here is the problem I see with federal government solutions to national problems. As long as the almighty dollar, in the form of campaign contributions, has the effect of determining how legislation is written and then voted on, it will be the donars of those millions who have a seat at table.

I sincerely doubt that the American people will benefit from whatever plan becomes law. The more federalized solutions become, the less influence average Americans will have over the plan. For example, the Medicare drug plan.

As someone who will soon be eligible to start collecting partial SS benefits, I have no problem with "shared sacrifices" to deal with all those issues you mention. But, first, could we have some justice regarding the unshared sacrifices many of us have been forced to make while the greedheads chopping taxes for the wealthiest? I just have this feeling that my proportional share of the coming sacrifice will be a tad bulkier than that of certain other sharers.

If you doubt that the American people will benefit from a federal plan... well, that would be politics-as-usual, I agree. So, do you believe that you can do something about it? I do. I think that we can have more influence. I'm not really here trying to promote my movement, but I see the light that flips on inside the head of those that join Unity08 when they realize that this movement could actually work.

In fact, I see more and more stories about bipartisanship each day... perhaps we have had some influence on that. It is definitely a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, our current leader is not leading. Wouldn't it be nice to have a bipartisan team at the top (pres, vp, cabinet) that defined a direction on the crucial issues... in other words, they take a mandate from the people and set a mandate for Congress to find some solutions... wouldn't that be great for a change?

The fundamental problem is Dear Leader's tax cuts for mega-millionaires which has resulted in an over 50% increase in the Federal debt.
