You know who makes that argument more than anybody else? Republicans. This is a favorite Republican argument. They say, "We want to run against Hillary. She's the polarizing candidate and we're going to take advantage of that. She's going to rile up our base, et cetera, et cetera." Whenever Republicans tell us who they want us to nominate, we should nominate her. They're scared of her. Who else is going to build a coalition?
Right On. Couldn't have said it better. On the other note, based on Novak's story Obama is falling into trap and accusing HRC of mudslinging. I think democratic candidates need to stop this accusing one another and start focussing on policies
Shakespeare's Richard III sums up perfectly my view of American politics today. Richard depicts the final, toxic, dead-end, deceitful, lying, lawbreaking years of the Wars of the Roses between the Yorkists and the Lancastrians, with the absurdly evil Richard ultimately going so far in his power-mad, murderous misdeeds as to require that the kingdom be invaded by a shirtail royal, Henry Tudor, who slays Richard, ends the decades long battle of the two family dynasties and founds a new order, the Tudors. This ushers in a new era of progress, healing and prosperity.
I think everyone can get the picture here: Clintons = Lancastrians, Bushes = Yorkist, with Cheney as the final deranged Yorkist madman, Richard. But Shakespeare's play doesn't end with the re-installation of the Lancastrians (i.e. Hillary), it teaches that the carnage could only end, and national progress be restored, when BOTH of the rival power-mad families were slain and removed for good.
So who will be OUR Henry Tudor? Will we get one in '08? Do we want one? I guess TLC doesn't want a Henry. Will the American War of the Roses simply continue for another term, or two, or three? (there are more Bushes, you know)
