the point is that Scotty apparently stands by his implications of Cheney, Rove, Card and the convicted felon Libby. Since only Cheney still works in the WH, will Bush now make good on his promise to the American people to "take care" of any of his staff caught in this affair? Or will he admit that "take care" meant exactly that...take care of pardoning them if convicted in a court of law?

Posted by T2 at November 21, 2007 12:32 PMYeah, this little gambit hasn't exactly put Scottie and his trash book in the "Must Read" category, has it?
Way to really think things through, Mr. Crappy McServative bookmonger.
Posted by euzoius at November 21, 2007 01:13 PMone interesting note about the publisher's statement-he said Scotty "does not believe President Bush lied to him". That is nowhere close to "he did not lie". That is simply Scotty's expressed impression, not an informed declaration of fact. Believing don't make it so, Scotty boy. Little liar.
Posted by T2 at November 21, 2007 01:23 PMThere is no way that a man who made his living carefully parsing his words to grease the public wheels of Bush's administration did not issue a statement here that was exactly constructed the way he wanted it to be.
Steve's question stands. What is the definition Scottie's statement is searching for in the word involved? Giving Bush a pass on the first thing that came to Dana's mind that GW would never ask Scottie to lie for him is naive and not what Scottie intended people to do with his statement.
Posted by mainsailset at November 21, 2007 02:08 PMThis is just part of a long-established pattern where a former Bush administration official:
1. Reveals the truth.
2. Wakes up with a horse head in his or her bed.
3. Issues a retraction.
The earliest example I can think of is Paul O'Neill.
Also, it's silly to claim that Scott McClellan (or, more likely, his ghost writer) wrote an outline for the book, submitted a manuscript, and had it edited with an accidental assertion that the president of the United States was involved in this. He was telling the truth, they leaned on him, and he folded.
Posted by croatoan at November 21, 2007 03:05 PMSo far this book parsing adventure has merely catapulted Scottie from mediocre slimeball to ultimate slimeball.
Posted by TIKI AL at November 21, 2007 03:18 PMTold you so. Took Scottie less than 24 hours to explain away the statement in his book. Those pictures of him and Jeffrey must have done the trick.
