Comments: Undocumenteds Use Less Health Care Than Citizens?

OMG, I can hear Lou "the broken record" Dobbs already!

Now, here's some deeper thinking on a similar Reuters article about the "study".

This will blow the mind of my Republican neighbor. He blames everything on "those illegals." The Germans hated the Jews and the Americans hate the "illegals." I guess people have to have someone to blame their failings on.

NoMoreBlatherDotCom, I'm sure you're part of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps that come down here to Arizona in the spring and fall but can't handle it in the middle of summer!

The report said that undocumented immigrants from Mexico and Latin America used emergency room services less than Latinos born in the US. However, the undocumented are more likely to be uninsured so that their medical expenses are more likely to be shifted to the public.

Can someone please explain how illegal immigration helps the poor here? If the supply of labor increases how does that help wages of the working poor? How does having the extra burden on our health care and education systems help?

I have the feeling that asking this question here is the equivalent to questioning the wisdom of the Iraq war on FreeRepublic.

I'm with Skeptic on this one.

Who cares if they're 50% less likely to use the emergency room? They're practically 100% likely NOT to have health insurance. And the illegals are at least 50% if not 100% more likely to not be paying any payroll taxes which would cover Medicaid payments to hospitals for such services for those without insurance.

The fact that they're less likely to use a hospital is not a surprise. I'd expect them to do practically anything to avoid contact with the law.

The issue is that what they do use in services is not paid for and it may indeed be a drain on health care.

I'm not saying the solution is "kick 'em all out" (not very likely possible), but just stating the obvious flip side to this argument about how much health care illegals use.

A good start would be if corporate America was to stop using illegal labor! Greed first, as always.

"A good start would be if corporate America was to stop using illegal labor! Greed first, as always."

Why Seven of Six, what about the huge profits of those poor corporations. They NEED cheap labor. Those damn Americans want a livable wage. Jeeze

"No one should be denied medical care, period."
Spoken like a true high school drop out that never made it to Econ 101.
Anyone here have any experience with Bayesian Priors? Or would it be a complete waste of my time to explain how this statistic is completely meaningless?
