Great post! You've got alot of fans out here, eriposte.
Posted by Masslib at November 28, 2007 07:25 AMClinton will only be able to destroy that part of the US which Bush leaves behind -- clearly not much.
Posted by m at November 28, 2007 07:39 AMYour last paragraph is more the telling, but lets widen it out by deleting "progressive" in the last sentence
"who perhaps are aware of the history but feel comfortable blatantly rewriting it to falsely trash today's leaders?"
Very nice Eri!
Posted by peter at November 28, 2007 07:54 AMYeah, that diary just blew my mind. Its one of a string of anti hillary and, frankly, anti woman diaries that kos people seem determined to put up. There was the one asking pitifully if women and blacks would be so angry when the (sensible) people chose edwards that they'd stop voting. And there was the one you've pointed out. And there have been tons of others explaining how hillary is the next coming of the nazis and/or the republicans and we need to be saved from her against our foolish judgement. It really, really, gets my goat.

Posted by aimai at November 28, 2007 07:57 AMThanks for addressing that awful diary, eriposte; aimai's right about the anti-woman feel of the CDS diaries. To tell you the truth, I don't think a lot of the women writing this kind of stuff (or talking about it on the radio and tv) realize that they're being subtly anti-woman as they attempt to be anti-Hillary. The language of female competition is learned so early in life, it's almost invisible and inevitable. I know that's what Tannen and Brazille were trying to get at in that interview you linked to a while back, eriposte, (I know I keep harping on it), even as they engaged in the same language themselves.
Speaking of language, I think it's funny how petey illustrates quite clearly how facts go into a wingnut "brain;" are revised with GOP talking points; and are spewed out in a comment thread. Hence, black becomes white, up becomes down, and a history they hadn't bothered to learn in the first place is revised to support their bizarre and dangerous ideology. What's more hilarious is that he thinks he's thinking this stuff up himself!

Single best comment on trolls I've ever read!
Thanks coyote!!

Posted by Chuck at November 28, 2007 09:01 AMIt's like a flowchart, SoS - or better yet, it's like those x-ray videos of a person swallowing food and you can see it travel through the body, eventually coming out as poo. Thanks, petey for making the process so transparent!
Posted by iamcoyote at November 28, 2007 09:09 AMI just read a quote from Hillary saying Colin Powell would be a good guy to send out as an American Spokesman abroad in her administration. That is getting pretty close to a nail in the coffin for my possible support of her. Powell is a Liar, a Phony and one of a handful of men directly responsible for lying away the lives of over 3800 American Military men and women. He should never be allowed to represent the USA again. If Hillary thinks he should, she has a serious problem judging character....or maybe she's just super-forgiving, right Bill?
Posted by T2 at November 28, 2007 09:52 AMvia Digby: "In at least one instance-the 1993 dust-up over gays in the military-Powell skirted the edge of insubordination. Exploiting Clinton's weakness vis-Ã -vis the armed forces, Powell went public with his opposition to the plan to integrate homosexuals into the military, letting it be known that he might resign over the issue and humiliating Clinton into negotiating with-and all but surrendering to-his own military chiefs."
And then Powell peddled Bush's lies to the UN instead of resigning which might have stopped Bush's war of aggression against Iraq. Fuck him, he is utterly without honor. And this shows how Hillary is part of the DC Establishment.
Posted by Gay Veteran at November 28, 2007 10:11 AMinteresting article by Chris Floyd:
"...Does anyone believe that H. Clinton will actually end the U.S. military presence in Iraq? Will she close the Gitmo concentration camp? Will she prosecute Bush officials for ordering torture? Will she scale back the American empire of military bases around the world? Will she push for a windfall profits tax on the oil companies who are reaping record profits on the blood money of war and chaos? Will she take a single step to loosen the deadly chokehold of the military-industrial complex on American policy, and the American economy? Will she bring vigorous oversight to the predators on Wall Street? Will she end the relentless and damaging testing regimen of the "No Child Left Behind" sham that is corroding American education?...."
Posted by Gay Veteran at November 28, 2007 10:21 AMYeah, T2, I can't imagine why Hillary would think mentioning Powell would be anything other than damaging, though I haven't read the context, just heard the sound byte. Still, she's married to the most liked and respected US emissary in the world, why even bring Powell up?
Posted by iamcoyote at November 28, 2007 10:24 AMT2, you must have ruled out Obama too, because he has met Powell for PRIVATE consultations. My god, who knows what kind of war crimes they were plotting, right? Nonsense, but that's what you'd hear if Hillary met with Powell.
Posted by MarkL at November 28, 2007 10:35 AMIt's hard to believe you wasted the time to read a dKos candidate diary and then compounded the error by writing a piece about it that's longer than the original (lame) diary. The only saving grace is that no trees were killed in the exercise.
Is this going to be a multi-part series on the HRC-bashing stupid dKos diary?
Posted by kaleidescope at November 28, 2007 10:37 AMThanks for the Chris Floyd article GV.
My take is the answer is "no" to every question but NCLB and (possibly) Gitmo.
A compromised figure of the failed past, way too invested in the DC "wisdom" and influence bubble to be the change agent the nation desperately needs....a perfectly good senator from NY.
Posted by euzoius at November 28, 2007 11:02 AMGreat work. I long-ago left Daily Kos because, frankly, no small part of the community that suffers from various derangements. Or suffers from baiting and harassing people who do not necessarily buy into their "orthodoxies" of what a "True Progressive" should believe.
OTOH, it's certainly no where as delusional as the Freepers, but this kind of blatant, and frequently community-supported, hackery of history and the issues is way too typical for my tastes. And it's a shame, because I missed Paradox (till he started posting here), Bill In Portland Maine, Darksyde and a few others. But, unlike my wife, I'm not willing to swim in a sewer to get a few cherries.
Posted by Moses at November 28, 2007 11:33 AMWell lets see. FDR was in the WH for just under 16 yrs...
FDR was in the White House for 12 years and one month. He died three months into his fourth term.

Posted by iamcoyote at November 28, 2007 10:24
Maybe the most liked and respected US emissary in the world thinks it's a good idea? Maybe he's right?
Gays in the military was in 1993. When Powell supported Bush (2001?), did he KNOW Bush was lying? Maybe Powell has learned something since then. -- And, do we know WHERE she'd be sending him? It might be a perfectly reasonable plan. Powell has many admirers here and abroad; if he's NOW willing to carry even PART of her message to them, why not?
