Comments: When Defending the Law Weakens It

George Carlin is one of those who became so frustrated with the system that he "quit the game".

Now he will only "sit back and watch the circus".

I'm very close to becoming a Carlinite.

"In the end, the grim ugly end in a deadly battle of truth with few left standing, American citizens, we will proudly show all that no, we are not merely decorations of democracy this Christmas, not at all, for on that glorious battlefield of Congressional truth there will be…a probe."

well....better than writing yet another letter to Dear Leader

Better, yes, but I remain vastly un-impressed.

Please have a great weekend, vet.

I am reminded of the old adage that if the JFK assassination was a conspiracy that someone would have talked. If they talked to the media it damned well wouldn't have been reported.

Don't worry about the CIA burning evidence. In a few days we can get back to how long Michael Vick is going to be in jail, and Barry Bonds lying about whether he knowingly took steroids a half decade ago. Yes, black athletes, the true terrorists.

Outstanding paradox.

there will be subpoenas. and when the subpoenas are once again ignored, there will be finger-wagging and gasps of indignation. that'll show 'em! again.

bill clinton was impeached for lying about a blowjob (by a consenting adult) it is truly amazing what this administration has gotten away with..astonishing....the system is broke..staring with a stolen election..for some time now i have wrestled with this democratic congress's inability to confront these people..maybe it is broken beyond repair

Next year will be as severe a test of our great experiment as has happened scince 1789. If the "reign of witches" as Tomas Jefferson called the Federalist goverrnment that passed the Alien and Sedition Act in 1798 is brought down through the proper electorial process, the great expeiment will continue, albeit with a cautionary tale of the fragility of the system.

Otherwise this will be the century of America's humiliation.

They have done everything but openly murder those who might pose any serious threat to their power. (Note that I say "openly.")

Of course, lesser remedies are available and now de rigeur. Threats to livelihood or family, blackmail, a few instructive anthrax envelopes.

I really do think this is why our Congress and media are so cowed.

Maybe it's broken for a reason?

Damn tin foil hat!

Paradox, relax guy. Even over at Wikipedia, 43 isn't the worst ever, he's in the 20's. Gosh, you guys say something enough maybe you believe it. 2002 Nobel Laureate Daniel Kahneman had something to say about your BDS. Something about the "availability bias" and its offshoots "availability cascade, informational cascade, and reputational cascade", y'all like to practice them with such zeal. Your allies in the MSM like to practice it too.

"Seven years into it it’s screamingly obvious Bush and Cheney are vicious, calculating killers of unbelievable cruelty and resolve."

Actually, Chappaquiddick ocurred in 1969.

Mary Jo Kopechne is still unavailable for comment.

Maybe it's broken for a reason?

Maybe so. If you think about it, societies and cultures evolve over time because of new technologies, new attitudes, inventions, discoveries, diseases, dangers... Maybe we needed to see the weaknesses in our systems in the hands of malevolent actors before we could go about fixing them. I get the feeling a lot of the shit this admin has been doing has been done behind closed doors in the past. With radio, television and now the internet, nothing's secret any more. We can see more of the big picture now, not all of it, but enough to know that things have to change quite a bit if we're going to survive. It's slow going because there are those who like the flaws, or even see them as perks, and will fight change with everything they have.
