Turkana, we agree on this one. It is good, wish we could make even more strides for women in this region of the world. Shame we had to wait upon the King to pardon her, the courts should have done the proper job in the first place. That's twice in the last two months a King has had to step in and rectify a bad ruling.
Posted by peter at December 17, 2007 03:54 PMTotally ot but please bear with me.
Wexler's Impeachment petition is over 90,400 right now, without any big play on most of the blogs and zero press. At this rate it will be in the 110-120 thousand by the end of the day. The next House Judiciary Committee meeting is Jan 8, 08 after the break. If every pissed off.. no, enraged blogger would post the link to the petition and remind everybody to sign and post themselves, Pelosi and Conyers could come back to ONE MILLION signatures supporting Impeachment. That they cannot ignore. here is the link,

Thanks for your attention and just think how good it would feel to see chaney wipped out of Washington!
This is what happens when social rules found in thousand year old religious "holy books" are thought to be a mandatory basis for a modern "legal system".
Sort of like thinking that abortion should be made unconditionally illegal, or homosexuality a crime 'cuz that's how Paster Biff reads his Bible.
Posted by euzoius at December 17, 2007 04:56 PMum, "pastor". Sorry.
Posted by at December 17, 2007 04:57 PMPeter, given that every single "stride" you have made for women has been a giant step backward, thanks, but no thanks.
Posted by Shirin at December 17, 2007 07:06 PMIs this woman being gotten out of Saudi Arabia immediately?
Her life is in grave danger. The only reason she has not yet been murdered by her family is that they were waiting to have her lashed and publicly humiliated before her murder. Now any reason for delay no longer exists.
The mullahs and religious police will not tolerate defiance. The pressure on the family will be intense. This woman and the man involved are dead if they remain in Saudi.
King Abdullah knows this very well. His pardon is a nice public relations gesture, but unless it is accompanied by a passport for this woman (a woman may not travel out of Saudi without her nearest male relative's permission), it is meaningless - and the King knows that also.

"Pelosi and Conyers could come back to ONE MILLION signatures supporting Impeachment. That they cannot ignore."
Wow...ONE MILLION signatures.
There are 300 MILLION Americans of which 110 MILLION voted in the last presidential election.
One MILLION is less than 1% of voters.
1/3rd of 1% of Americans.
ROFLMAO...
And....they currently have less than 100,000 towards that big ONE MILLION goal.
Priceless.
