Posted by euzoius at December 24, 2007 10:06 AMAdd another item to the growing list of funding cuts to important programs because of Iraq war spending. I blame the democratic congress for not rallying american public about how Iraq war funding is hurting our country and stop this outrages bleeding per the mandate they got from us in November 2006. They have certainly let us down.
I do not understand what they had to lose by standing up to this president and his rubber stamp leadership in congress. Even if they lost, they could have got lot of mileage by demonstrating to american public who is against funding the worthwhile causes. Show them that this president and these Repubs would rather spend money in Iraq then giving on healthcare for our children.
I wonder if these Dems in congress are really true Dems.
Posted by suresh at December 24, 2007 10:47 AMPerhaps Congress is saving our money for this:
Bussard Fusion Reactor
Easy Low Cost No Radiation Fusion
It has been funded:
The above reactor can burn Deuterium which is very abundant and produces lots of neutrons or it can burn a mixture of Hydrogen and abundant Boron 11 which does not.
The implication of it is that we will know in 6 to 9 months if the small reactors of that design are feasible.
If they are we could have fusion plants generating electricity in 10 years or less depending on how much we want to spend to compress the time frame. A much better investment than CO2 sequestration.
BTW Bussard is not the only thing going on in IEC. There are a few government programs at Los Alamos National Laboratory, MIT, the University of Wisconsin and at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana among others.
The Japanese and Australians also have programs.

If I'm not mistaken, this is in Hastert's district or just adjacent to it
Posted by burgermeister at December 24, 2007 02:26 PMBackwards, backwards, how much more freakin backwards can we go?
What was so cool about the Dark Ages, that these bastards are so beside themselves to take us back there?
Really, I absolutely don't fucking get it.
Posted by Sharkbabe at December 24, 2007 07:39 PMWhy do I feel that in seven years, we have regressed 50 years? It's like all the gains we have made have been undone.
"I wonder if these Dems in congress are really true Dems."
Suresh, well they certainly aren't the Democrats of my youth. Remember them? True Liberals. In those days you could tell them from Republicans.
