Not really surprising, is it? I was just reading up on the Iran thing; boy, did Bushco really screw up their obvious attempt at increasing tensions again in advance of his ostensible "Peace tour" of the ME. First, it's a "fleet" of Iranian Revolutionary Guard ships "threatening" 3 Navy ships, then it's 5 small craft that might be the IRG "harrassing" Navy ships, dropping boxes in the water and saying in a comically spooky voice "you're going to explode." Then the Pentagon puts out a "scary" clip of the incident, which, when pressed by Iran saying it's fake, the Pentagon admitted it was spliced together from separate audio and video recordings and edited from 20 minutes to 4. Now, the Pentagon is forced to admit that the scary voice may not even have come from the speed boats at all. Talk about bumbling the propaganda! Idiots!
Posted by iamcoyote at January 10, 2008 01:01 PMWhen Saddam said he has no WMDs and is not associated with AL-Queda and has nothing to do with 9/11, contrary to what Bush told us, we believed our president and not Iraqui president. However, after what we know now, I would rather trust Iran president than Mr. Bush.
Posted by suresh at January 10, 2008 01:15 PMthe Pentagon and CIA are hinting that the voice on the Iran boat scare could be that of Hussein Obama, secret Muslim infiltrator.
Posted by T2 at January 10, 2008 01:24 PMJust more bullshit from our Government and the Bush Administration. Anyone would have questioned that voice on the recording. If the truth were known, that sort of thing happens quite often in the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait is after all in International waters isn't it?
My take, an election is coming up. We need to be reminded about how afraid, very afraid we all should be. Nothing like a good incident to get those warmongers behind a candidate. Calling John McCain.
AP reports that: "Iran's Foreign Ministry says weekend incident between Iranian boats and U.S. Navy ships in Gulf was 'something normal' and was resolved."
"It seems highly unlikely that Iran planned to blow up U.S. naval ships and precipitate a major incident or even war. If the U.S. attempts to make propaganda points based on the incident, it will reflect a new truculence coming out of Washington."
Telling Lies To Get Us Into War Is A Military Tradition
"Let's see, during the last hundred or so years there was the sinking of the Maine, who knows what happened that brought on the Korean war, the Gulf of Tonkin, Iraq's nonexistent weapons of mass destruction and now this Straits of Hormuz hoax. Thusly do some of our generals and admirals make traitors of themselves."

The truth of the matter is irrelevent to the masses. It's the same old propaganda technique that we have seen used repeatedly over the past several years. Release some trumped up incendiary story that gets big play in the corporate news. Then quietly back-peddle to something that's closer to reality when busted. The truth gets minimal play in the MSM.
This is exactly how the government, in collusion with the corporate news, keeps the American public so ill-informed.
Until a solid majority of the public stops getting their information from corporate sources, we can look forward to a manipulated electorate, making bad decisions about whom to support.
It's no coincidence that moves are underway to censor the net and make independent, critical thinking a crime. Big Brother says, "You will believe what you are told."
Posted by brisa at January 10, 2008 02:15 PMPathological liars and sociopaths. You can never guess what the next lie will be or what they will do to accomplish their goals. Ask me, we have one in the family.

Wastrel
Bush, his gaggle of self-aggrandizing corporate ball washers and their Democratic enablers claim the exclusive right to degrade our currency, ruin our economy and immiserate our people. They're apex parasites.
By definition, to be a successful politician one must be a pathological liar.
The truth is that people face trade offs (what you consume today doesn't replenish itself so you can consume it tomorrow). But the general public hasn't come to grips with this reality yet, and thus will continue to gravitate towards the candidate that tells everyone you can have your cake and eat it. The system is perverse and encourages politicians to go around pandering to everyone with blatant lies.
At least lawyers and poker players don't have to endure the dubious distinction of being the most dishonest people. They have politicians to look up to.
the real axis of evil is in DC:
the (reptilian) White House-the (reactionary) Supreme Court-the (let him do whatever he wants) Congress
you need only know one thing: every word out of the mouth of g. w. bush, including 'the' and 'and', is a lie
and at least one newspaper actually does some in-depth research and reporting and calls things as they are.
