terrific perspective. the oliphant is truly stunning.
Posted by Turkana at January 17, 2008 02:45 PMOliphant has a real problem with women, it seems. Mithras documents some of the recent evidence.
Posted by Christina at January 17, 2008 02:50 PMDamn, Christina, he really hates Clinton. Oy! I'd only seen the world leaders one, but all of them together, it's like a visual of Chris Matthews' brain and Limbaugh's vile spew. Thanks for your personal perspective of the scientist culture. Full disclosure: all my heroes have been scientists. I just love your posts. Thanks!
Posted by iamcoyote at January 17, 2008 05:29 PMMithra's collection is simply remarkable. I have liked some Oliphant cartoons, although I don't really like much what I hear from him in interviews. This stuff is Chris Mathews territory, or even beyond. What causes on such hatred? On second thought, who cares?

Guess that the “manly” souls (like oliphant?) who show no bother about sticking their hoofs in their collective arse’s if they feel it’ll get a wee lil' chuckle, have still a long way to go in order to grow up into adulthood.
In Spain we have an old adage for such sort of conduct, “El mayor desprecio es no hacer aprecio”, which loosely translates into “The biggest disregard is to forgo valuation”. In other words, that such contemptuous type’o crapoleo doesn’t even deserve a second of our time spent in judgment.
Bah, to more important topics: thanks for your insightful posts.

What a great post. And thanks for posting the remakr of "the ghost of dr. violet socks." I think one of the things that still astounds me is how hidden the everyday misogyny of our society is *from men* and it makes me begin to see dimly, even if I can never fully grasp it, how much everyday racism and classism is hidden from us too, if its not our problem, that is racism hidden from us if we are not a minority, classism hidden from us if we are upper class.
OT but I'm watching my way through the last season of the Sopranos right now and the raw misogyny of the male characters is so fantastically written and acted that you are at one and the same time that it makes everything else sort of more real.
