Comments: Reader Complains Of Ed Schultz' Attacks On Hillary

You are absolutely correct. I wrote the ed schultz show this morning to say that he is way, way, Way out of line on this. I used to support him, brought him listeners. I'm telling everyone I know he has lost it. I mean he seems unbalanced, like it's just all gotten to him. His vitriol is so ugly.

Posted by lin at January 24, 2008 12:58 PM

It's funny how the Obama supporters who make Unity the front message really are the most divisive, mean-spirited and unreasonable people in the blogosphere (and the media, it appears.)

WHAT GIVES? I see nothing in her record to warrant such blatant irrational hatred. Her attacks on Obama are basically vetting in action. If he can't handle that, then he can't handle the GOP attacks either.

Posted by blogtopus at January 24, 2008 01:06 PM

I've totally stopped listening to him long ago because he's not really very up on the facts and callers lie to him and he has no idea they're doing so; but I recently caught some of his garbage against Clinton as well. Disgusting. Sadly, Stephanie Miller also parrots the complaint that Clinton won't go on her show, but she's not nearly as obnoxious about it.

Come on folks...BIG EDDIE is (however likable and affable you may usually find him) is like the rest of the radio "personalities" who get a big mic and think they KNOW IT ALL! He constantly misrepresents not only Hillary and Bill's positions but others...doing the MSM thingy of finding a kernel of truth and wrapping it in their own inflated opinions! That, then, becomes the CW that travels around the airwaves and blogospheres as most people are far too lazy to actually read, listen, think about issues...preferring to turn that over to people who have EGOS the size of Texas! Schultz is no different...I use his program as wallpaper while I paint and have to stop periodically to SHOUT HIM DOWN...don't believe most of what you hear...

Posted by Dancer at January 24, 2008 01:24 PM

fortunately or un, depending on how you think of it, ed is the only progressive show we get over the pond.

however, it seems he's not the only one calling hillary out for her going negative. i consider myself up in the air on between her and barack, so i try to read as much as i can to keep a relatively open mind.

however, lately, i've seen this site lean further towards hilary. that's your perogative, it is your site and all...

but looking back, i think hilary started the mud first, with veiled hints coming from her subordinates. the drug dealing thing, the bob johnson thing, the votes present, etc... most african americans consider bob johnson a sell out. his list is too long to vet here. i digress. yes, i know politics is dirty, but engaging in repub tricks, do you think its good overall for our party?

repetition of a lie doesn't make it true... everything he's said has been vetted, from blogs to the msm; however, it continues to get thrown out there, even on this site. despite all of this, i can tell you that he's the favorite son in europe. tell me, what do you think our rep would be if a black man was potus???

i work with mostly repubs. they hate hilary, but they fear barack. my argument about hilary is that she gives the impression that she deserves the nomination by who she is. that doesn't win my vote. but if she is the nominee come november, then i will vote her...

civility in politics in this day and age is long gone. i didn't think after all the clintons went through that they'd stoop to rovian techniques. but then again, when you feel the nation owes you, you'd sell your soul to get there.

a pity...

just something to think on...

I haven't listened to Schultz for a long time because we don't get Air America here in red-neck country any more. But when I did listen, he always asserted that he was more Independent than Democrat. Has he changed his stance recently?

Breaking that Dennis Kucinich is dropping out of the race.

Bill Clinton: 'Screw It, I'm Running For President'

After spending two months accompanying his wife, Hillary, on the campaign trail, former president Bill Clinton announced Monday that he is joining the 2008 presidential race, saying he "could no longer resist the urge." ...

In a show of respect, Clinton then completed his introduction of Hillary Clinton, calling her a "wonderful wife and worthy political adversary," and warmly shook her hand as she approached the podium. A clearly shocked Mrs. Clinton got halfway through her speech about the nation's obligation to its children before walking briskly offstage.

"No longer will I have to endure watching candidates like Hillary Clinton engaging in single-pump handshakes with voters, as I use every last ounce of restraint not to shout out, 'No! Warm double-clasp! Warm double-clasp!'" Clinton said. "America deserves someone who can do it right."...

Although some have pointed out that it is unconstitutional for Clinton to run for a third term in office, he has silenced most critics by urging voters "not to worry about the Constitution for now" and assuring them he will address those legal issues immediately after regaining control of the White House.

I hope Dennis can now devote his full time to impeaching Bush and Cheney.

Big Eddie has lost me as a listener. And I'm as liberal as they come. But, giving HUGE parts of his show to a worthless loud mouth like Kucinich (did you hear the All-Dennis show Big Fatty did?) and spewing his all-ethanol all the time bile, while shamelessly plugging for every handout the farm bill can give just lowers Eddie to a small time operator. I've called his show and talked with him. But, any more, I just give up. He hates Hillary because she's a girl and he's a HE-MAN from the West where men are men and sheep are scared. Randy Rhodes seems to be the only one worth listening to any more. What the hell happened to all the liberal radio hosts? Did they all die in a plane crash somewhere? (Where have you gone Al Franken, a nation turns its lonely eyes to you... )

Another former Clinton partisan slams Bill. This time it is Robert Reich: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/1/24/163017/422/895/442535

Still waiting for one of the Left Coaster's long-winded blog entries... but on this topic. Of course, I doubt we'll get it since this is a "secret" Hillary site.

agree somewhat the Bill will start to hurt Hillary sometime soon. But Barack will face 1000 times worse from 1000 times the people if he gets the nom.

Luigi - Rachel Maddow is well worth it. She really needs to replace Tucker Carlson on the TV, too.

anthony, thanks for the Onion article! Hilarious.

Sorry about Kucinich, snark, I know he was your guy...

Most people want validation, hence those who oppose a candidate will be hardened by negative comments. I don't listen to Ed anymore. Not that I'm a HRC supporter, but his comments about her are jarring. It's my opinion that those who support Obama will listen to Ed spew Obama's talking points, and those, like me, will turn him off. If Edwards doesn't win I want HRC. Obama and his supporters have been playing up the racial card to hilt with their whining and playing the victim. It's disgusting. If Obama becomes the nominee, I'm not sure I'll vote for him. That was not the case before he began his tactics.

I was glad to have him out there keeping a lot of issues on the fire.

Posted by snark at January 24, 2008 02:12 PM

Iraq has announced talks with the US to cement US in Iraq permanent bases forever before Bush leaves office. Here is their reasoning on the timing, their "goal was to have the new structure fully in place before Bush leaves office in a year, so as not to tie the next president’s hands." Is that the hoot of the year??? NOT tie the hands of the next president???? The intent is to Totally tie the hands of the next president. I wonder if it would be possible for Hillary and Obama to immediately reject this plan? Sure, I may be dreaming on that, but it would be nice to hear Hillary say the following words: "I will review any Iraq agreements as soon as I take office and throw out any that requires a permanent base and anything negotiated by George W. Bush".

Posted by T2 at January 24, 2008 02:14 PM

Ed's right about Hillary. What are we going to do when Israel demands that we attack Iran or else they will release Bill's phone sex tapes with Monika. You remember Ken Starr's report about Monika's phone being bugged at the Watergate hotel by Mossad don't you.

Posted by liberal white boy at January 24, 2008 02:18 PM

Caught a few minutes of Ed today and yesterday and I agree. I hear a lot of anti-Hillary stuff on Ed and on Stephanie Miller.

Posted by CG at January 24, 2008 02:31 PM

Snark, say it ain't so!

I'm off to check it out. I agree with you, that at the very least the issues he raised were out there for awhile. I'm still furious at how he was treated and banned from debates.

This sucks.

Doesn't anyone get Thom Hartmann on Air America? He's the best.

Too bad about Kucinich. I hear he needs to concentrate on saving his cogressional seat.

Posted by Seven of Six at January 24, 2008 02:56 PM

You're right about Hartman, SoS. I rarely get to listen because he comes on midday while I'm at work. He's amazing, though. Very well read and fair.

Posted by iamcoyote at January 24, 2008 03:09 PM

The Hillary bashing is coming from Ed Schulz, Stephanie Miller, and Randi Rhodes. I was so disgusted with Rhodes the other afternoon that I turned the radio off. What are they thinking? Do they really want to alienate a big chunk of their Clinton supporting listeners? Everybody I know is voting for HRC, and most of these people listen, or used to listen to Air America.

At the very least it's a stupid business move. I stopped listening to talk radio long ago because of the right wing extremists. I learned how to live without it, and can easily turn it off again.

Posted by xht at January 24, 2008 03:14 PM

Think strategically. Who owns the stations that they appear on? Big conglomerates own the media. This is a concerted effort to down our strongest candidate. And moronic liberals are aiding the effort like lemmings. It's that simple. This is a 1984 world and people are being manipulated...and unfortunately, the left can be just as stupid as the right. But the "liberal" Ed or Randi or Stephanie are being paid off...It is all too organized...like Republican talking points. Listen to them all...very coordinated. And it is all designed to hurt Hillary...either they knock her off in the primary...or weaken her for the general. We must have a counter plan. The problem is we can't organize enough blogs. But we must spread a counter message. DailyHowler.com is one of the best in exposing the media. We should be talking about that too. We must expose the phony liberals. All of us...consistently. We must know the game plan.

Posted by lily15 at January 24, 2008 03:33 PM

Obama is totally running as Bill Bradley, version 2008. I fear this will seriously undermine Clinton if she's the nominee.

Posted by Nathan at January 24, 2008 03:56 PM

bush fubar'd this country and the rep sooo bad, i don't expect it remedied (sp?) in the next 4 yrs... btw, who's paying for these upcoming rebate checks? where is that in the budget??? i'm not spending it though, putting in my european bank acct, collect european interest, and transferring it to a roth when im outta here, but again, i digress...

hillary's detractors hate her, in the same vein we hate g.w.b (he who must be obeyed)... is that what we want for the next 4? i'm not naive enough to think it will be smooth sailing for obama, but he'd get a damn site easier round than h.r.c.

i'm figuring the country will eventually spit out all of the partisanship we have going on. the repubs took us too far right. with us or agin us, uncontrolled unregulated hypocritical christianity, etc.

s**t, i'd vote for a q-tip if it would heal our country. the truth is, as much as i want a dem in the oval office, h.r.c. will polarize us more than take us in a new direction, she's polarizing us here, and we are dems for geebuz's sake. the rabid dogs of the right are itchin for her to get the nom.

i'll vote for whoever represents the dems, happily. it seems like some of you here, won't.

again, a pity...

good nite and good luck

Nathan:

You are absolutely correct that Hillary will be seriously undermined. But it is her own doing with Bill's help. She can put end to it instead of winning nomination at any cost approach. It is winning the Whitehouse for democratic party should be more important. She has already alienated blacks and many democrats because of her attacks on a fellow democrat who happens to be black.

It all started when she lost Iowa caucuses and now it is out of control. It will even intesify when she loses in SC.

The winners are the Republicans because from no chance scenario, they are almost certain to win the Whitehouse if McCain is their nominee.

Posted by suresh at January 24, 2008 04:13 PM

I think Hillary will be very strong among independents and Republican women. She is tough and is not a wimp. What she loses with the wimpy Obamaites who won't vote for her, she gains among the more moderate. Remember, the entire media is against her...for a reason...Obama loses a general for sure...clearly, Democrats may complain about Clinton's presidency...that it wasn't up to their standards...except Democrats can't elect a President. Clinton is the only one in 30 years to get elected. People forget that. Democrats nominate wimps who wimp out in the general and fail to play hardball. So when we have a candidate who can play hardball, then liberals don't like them. It's a paradox...but it's true.
The liberals have been played. And on some level, they don't have the fight in them to take power...even if their own living standards depend on it. We must speak out about this. And never let up the pressure. But don't buy the media bullcrap that she can't get elected.
It's a narrative crafted especially for liberals. Unfortunatly, too many liberals are drinking the cool aid and feeling over confident about the election. Dangerous. (Especially that arrogant fool Markos)
And Romney is the candidate of the power elite and the oil companies and the Bushies...and he might win Florida. I think McCain is easier to beat.

Democrats can win if they figure out they are being played by the media and their mouthpieces...and overcome their inner loser narrative. But I guarantee you...bill clinton has figured this out and knows what he is up against...We must attack those liberals who have been set up to help us lose.

Posted by lily15 at January 24, 2008 04:15 PM

Mr Schultz is just telling the truth, and exposing what the Clintons are. Many more Americans need to hear this.

Would you expect him to lie also?

Posted by jj at January 24, 2008 04:33 PM

Obama can't win...don't delude yourself...whites and hispanics won't vote for him..that leaves moderate appearing McCain or Romney...and both will have new narratives and full media backing for the general.

The Democrats in Congress are wimps. They have caved to the Republicans and still act like losers as though they were in the minority...that's why so many don't like the Clintons. The Clintons don't like losing. If they get the Presidency they will do things differently this time. They will use their power effectively. That will ruffle a lot of feathers. During Bill's term, he alienated the Black Caucus over welfare reform and labor over NAFTA. But he needed those successes to get re elected. But eriposte has amply described his successes...and they were considerable, especially the budget surplus. But what credit does he get for such a remarkable achievement? Instead we are told that Hillary is so hated the Rethugs will defeat her or make her Presidency miserable and divisive. (as though they will play pussyfoot with anyone else)We are told that Democratic elders don't like this attacking or don't like the Clintons. That's what the fear is about. No more status quo. That's why the hate is so visceral. \

Edwards is not a real threat in terms of being elected so they leave him alone. And Obama poses no threat at all so they treat him with kid gloves NOW. But Hillary is a threat to the power structure. That is the irony of this all. The hate is manufactured in direct proportion to the threat. The smart people recognize this...the dummies don't.

Posted by lily15 at January 24, 2008 04:37 PM

It almost feels like we are in some futuristic movie...like Minority Report...it is eerie this mind control...very eerie. And our future depends on stopping the evil forces that have taken us to this point. The robber barons of today are brutal and smart. We must be smarter.

Posted by Bagley at January 24, 2008 05:00 PM

Anthony,
this site only seems "pro-Hillary" because there are only a few sites stating realities. I'm just hoping the Clinton campaign stops apologizing. I'm sorry but Shaheen saying the Republicans might raise Obama's drug use was not a slander on obama but a reality. Bob Johnson, while unnecessary, mentioning it again when saying how long HRC has fought for the rights of minoriites, the poor, women etc was not being racist. Bob Kerry should NEVER have apologized for mentioning the multi-cultural aspects of obama's background and how the world might embrace him for it when Obama's campaign was making it a central part of his foreign experience. I am sick and tired to the apologies. Carville was right this morning on Today, Obama needs to stop whining, what the hell is he going to do against the republicans. By the way you should check out eriposte's timeline on attacks because Edwards and Obama were the first to basically call her a liar, if that's not personal, I'm not sure what is and she took it standing up and just kept going.

Ed Schultz gets inordinately upset over Bill's sex life. As do many of the punditry. Meanwhile, the voters could care less, and think the jockstrap sniffers like Eddie are unhinged.

Actualy I did, and I enjoyed it immensely. He made the same offer to every one of the campaigns.

spewing his all-ethanol all the time

he has the platform and its a huge local issue for him. As long as he keeps it honest, I have no problem with it. I've called in and talked Biodiesel with him a couple times.

Ed Schultz has been stuck on 100 radio stations for 2 years now. His staff is inept and treats callers with disrespect. Ed is looking for anything that will get him a few more listeners, even bending the truth on just how "large" his audience is. Anybody can do the math: 100 station, mostly small wattage, 3 million listeners? Give me a break that is over 30,000 per radio station and there are not even that many people living within the hearing range of many of them.
