Can't sleep, so I ventured out in the -3 degree air and walked through the frozen snow in my Jerry Garcia-designed Birkenstocks to retrieve my Chicago Tribune. I was greeted by these stories:

"In a victory for the administration, the Senate on Thursday blocked legislation that would have cleared the way for lawsuits against phone companies that have cooperated with a warrentless wiretapping program authorized by President Bush."

"The Bush administration is proposing the first changes in more than a decade to regulations that give workers unpaid leave to deal with family or medical emergencies."

"Employers can fire workers who use medical marijuana even if it was legally recommended by a doctor, the California Supreme Court ruled Thursday, dealing the state another setback in its standoff with federal law enforcement."

Glad I made the effort. I'm gonna try to grab another hour of sleep.

Not exactly an uplifting way to start the day, but I had a dream about this Bright Eyes song earlier, so I wanna share this amazing performance.

Small federal gov't, states right. Yeah right.

Thanks Jeff for reminding us that there is life beyond candidates and their bickering. In my humble opinion, there are major issues that are being set aside for the daily candidate 'cat fight.' The thought of eight months of reading nothing but is disappointing, but that's just me.

No CG, the state Supreme Court came up with that one, Californians, and I'd venture to say, Democrats. So don't put that on us Republicans.

Did you see this coming out of Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County, California? Homeowner with thirty year old redwood trees is being sued to cut them down so his neighbor who put up solar panels aren't shaded. He knew about the shadow the trees cast before and put them up anyhow. Let's cut down trees for global warming now. Link (free registration required)

Here is one of those issues:

The WH is seeking to bind the next president by locking in Bush's policies and a long-term military presence in Iraq.

Here's something to discuss;

The state of Mississippi, under the stalwart leadership of Gov. Haley Barbour is going to divert a $600,000,000 housing grant intended to rebuild housing destroyed by Katrina to a port expansion project instead.

No doubt once the expansion is complete, at taxpayer expense, the state owned port will be sold off to private enterprise which is more suited to running such facilities.

...WHEW...seems like Shrub thinks bin Laden MAY not be caught during his administration...I really don't think you can make this sh*t up....Fox trying to show dinglenuts as a hard working Fighting to the Finish tireless crusader of freedom. Utter nonsense....maybe there will be some Three Stooges reruns on at the same time!
