Suggest you stop using the Orwellian word "detainees".
The word is *prisoners*. "Detainees" was invented as a ruse to pretend that the Geneva Conventions don't apply.
It's like calling torture "harsh interrogation".
Or calling Aggressive War "Defense".
Posted by Commenter from afar at January 25, 2008 02:52 PMthanks for catching that. i never use the word- i misspelled "blockquote"...
Posted by Turkana at January 25, 2008 03:08 PMMore than six years after the September 11 attacks, and not only has Bush failed to make things better, but everything he touches just keeps getting worse.
A literal, "King Midas in Reverse"!
Posted by Seven of Six at January 25, 2008 03:23 PMOh, gosh! The Canadians are sooooooo surprised to find that prisoners are being tortured in Afghanistan! They seem to be the last people on earth to figure it out.
Posted by Shirin at January 25, 2008 09:54 PMThe Canadian military secretly stopped transferring prisoners to Afghanistan’s government in November after Canadian monitors found evidence that they were being abused and tortured.
How quaint.
As opposed to the Cheney Assministration's position that they aren't being tortured because we said so, and they deserved to be tortured anyway, so shut up and go shopping.
