Comments: The Missing da Vinci’s

Glad to hear your daughter is on the mend and handling it all well.

As for the post on education--*sigh*. I get so frustrated with it all. My son is in middle school now and there is no art or music unless you play an instrument or want to be in chorus. I had music class, and I think art as well, through middle school and had plenty of room for electives in high school--art, mechanical drawing, computers, and I can't remember what else. My son is in a magnet program for math, science, and computer science. If he had been able to get into the "arts rotation" (different arts class each quarter) it would have included a computer class, some type of art appreciation class (but not actual art I don't think), tv production, and something else I can't remember. Anyway, it was full, so he's taking French.

In high school it's so competitive that kids don't want to take artsy classes because they don't have honors and AP levels. In elementary school, it's all so structured. Luckily, my kids have both been in an elementary GT program where they actually are allowed to wander off topic since they figure the kids will all pass the standardized tests.

Very glad that your Daughter is doing well, and you have survived. I'm sure she will have fun at school with a lot of attention coming her way.

I'm not sure that if I had not had art classes all through my schooling, I would have become an artist. Talent was discovered early, and my love for art was nutured in classes. What a shame art is no longer important to the development of children.
