Comments: Tech Wage Gap Growing

Thanks for bringing more attention to this. I have been fighting for equal pay for women all my life. The "no penis penalty" sucks.

Does this report "normalize" for the amount of time that women take of to have children and attend to family (especially child-rearing) needs?

Does this report take into account that many women make conscious decisions to take lower paying, less stressful jobs than men?

bagless,

equal pay for equal work sort of implies that the jobs are the same. and does the study take into account that more and more men attend to child-rearing? not in your world, of course...

anonymous poster,

"....equal pay for equal work sort of implies that the jobs are the same..."

But time on the job may not be.

teabagger - you're a hoot.

Anyway, color me not surprised by the Computer World report - look at the field specialties where women predominate for technology: tech support and related customer service. These fields are considered entry-level (even after 20 years in the job) and more likely to attract employees from other disciplines or less educated backgrounds. Talk about the soft expectation of inherent system discrimination.

And fuck you and pity the poor sad woman who lowers her self-respect to warm your nether regions, bagger, if you want to believe that these fields are lower stress than male-dominated fields. Or that women deserve their lot because they care for their families on a greater basis by proportion of the population.

"Or that women deserve their lot because they care for their families on a greater basis by proportion of the population."

That is not what I posted. I posted that women make choices.

But, then again, idiosynchronic, I do not believe that anyone has ever accused you of being having good reading comprehension.

"There's not much to say about that. To any fair-minded person, the facts speak for themselves."

Well first off you have to consider the motives of the source. Have you heard anyone speak from the National Realtors Associations lately? They have a vested interest in propping up the real estate market, and their statements fit that motive.
So what do you think the goal of the Institute for Women's Policy Research is? And I don't mean the lies that are posted on their website.

Comparing the median income of women to men suffers from similar biases to comparing the median income of high-school drop outs to MBA grads(and demanding that they are near equal).

It is no surprise the press release does not provide evidence that the median male and female are on equal footing in terms of work experience, education, probability of quitting the job, etc.

You let me down, fellow disgraced Packer backer, I thought you would ask if the study figured in runway models, topless dancers, and hookers.

Have you read about the alarming amount of time being lost to prostate problems and male menopause?

jay,

is the u.s. census bureau biased? have a nice day.

Go Giants!

We appear to be on the same football page once again, my politically misguided friend.

"is the u.s. census bureau biased? have a nice day."

Yes, every individual and firm(which includes governments) is biased. Another major point missed in the report is that these median wages are derived in a relatively free market where firms and individuals engage in voluntary trade.

"normalize" for the amount of time that women take of to have children and attend to family

Moving quickly past the absurd notion that women are the only caregivers in families...

Unpaid maternity leave is the norm in the U.S. so there is nothing to normalize. We stand nearly alone on this point, with only Liberia, Papua New Guinea, and Swaziland for company. More's the pity too, because it's well established (pdf) that paid parental leave improves children's health and development, benefits employers by increasing long-term employment and productivity, and improves economic security for families.

Bottom line....If women don't come out in droves for Hillary, I won't have much sympathy for this gap. If they go along with the gauzy press powered Obama love machine, then count me out as an advocate of this cause for equal pay for woman.

This gap is about political power and women banding together and making a difference where it counts...in the pocketbook. The Equal Rights Amendment was voted down. Because enough women weren't ready to fight for it. And if they aren't ready to fight for the first woman president who can and will do something about this, then my interest in their lot, will evaporate. Of course, it is those working women who are strong for Hillary. While the the wine drinking female progressives, who think the income gap must not apply to them, or who have their head in the clouds still.... yap away ecstatically for change and Obama like mindless fools...

So don't count me in for this fight...if Obama gets the nomination. I will be checked out...Who wants to lobby and otherwise fight for fools and hapless idiots when they don't have your back? Maybe Move On will help fix the problem. Suggest all your readers contact the fix it people for change...Move On.

They seem to carefully examine how best to get real change. Follow the progressive leaders....again.

Because the chummy boy's club that is Kerry, and Daschle, Bill Bradley, Kennedy...and all the establishment liberals..and pundits...are definitely not making a wage gap between women and men..a hot button topic.
