Comments: Asking the Hard Questions

Nobody answered those questions when Howard Dean asked them and nobody is going to answer them now.

The message from the Democratic Party establishment, in 2004 and this year, is this: quit asking questions.

Good post, Mary, thanks for noticing.

Failed Drug War...Monopolized Corporate Media ...Decaying American Empire...Bankrupt War Economy...Racist Prison Mania...
The cancerous symptoms are all around us, and leading Democratic Presidential candidates are too corrupt and morally crippled to even begin talking about them."
Five Untouchable Symptoms by Matt Stoller, Open Left, Tue Dec 25, 2007

Howard Dean, Matt Stoller, McJoan. Big surprise: the near exclusively corporate policies of the past 40+ years produced mostly unparalleled national disasters and tragic lost opportunities. So why do most Congressional Democrats support and enable them? Why do journalists avoid the story? Who benefits?

Senators Clinton, Obama, discuss.

So why do most Congressional Democrats support and enable them?

Because no one can win an election without huge dollars and the corporate ruling class is the only source of huge dollars. Piper. Tune.

Why do journalists avoid the story?

Who hires journalists? Who determines whether they keep their jobs, get raises and book deals?

This is all pretty simple. Infuriating, but simple.

You shouldn't expect answers to all questions; that's not realistic and not necessary. You should expect answers to a small number of significant questions. Dean was clear about war, taxes and health care. Neither of the two surviving candidates has full answer on all three questions. They are not going to withdraw immediately. None of them is for Bush's money transfer to the Rich and debt to the poor, but how, when and when is vague. Hillary has a clear answer on health care, while Obama has his typical hyperbole.
