Left Coasters GO VOTE!
Consider the war vote; manditory government healthcare and ablility to get things done in the country! After 8 years of Bushit we need a change!
Saw raging sarcasm on cspan yesterday evening. They were showing the Senate discussion of FISA and the economic stimulus package. Schumer stood up and innocently asked Reid if he knew why the republicans would want to stall the FISA vote. Reid answered why yes, I do know, and went on to say that the republicans wanted the vote to go up to the deadline so that the House would just have to go along with the Senate bill. I don't think they planned it, but it was pretty funny. Then Boxer got up and talked about how the minority said they needed 30 hours to read the update to the stimulus package because it had some new liheap (??) provision in it that they needed to study. She then said that while Chuck and Harry were chatting, she got her hands on the changes and they were all of 1.5 pages and instead of taking 30 hours to read, they could all just read them together right then and there. She sounded like she was scolding 2nd graders--it was pretty funny. Who knew the Senate could be so entertaining.
Posted by CG at February 5, 2008 04:37 AMIt is with extreme suspicion and dissatisfaction that I will press a button today as the first step in choosing the next President of the United States. A position of such great importance that its occupier has also been said (in the past) to be the leader of the free world.
The computer attached to that button will have to prove to me that it has correctly read my vote.
This will be accomplished by the computer speaking to me in the long dead language of Q-bert.
BOOP-BLIP ...and I walk away wondering what the hell that just meant.
Posted by mparker at February 5, 2008 04:37 AMHeard someone suggest a campaign ad that might run against Obama if he and McCain are the nominees: McCain as a prisoner of war juxtaposed with an 8 or 10-yr-old Obama living in a Muslim country. Show McCain, prisoner of war, then show people bowing to Mecca. That's one thing that'll be coming at him.
On Obama's health care plan, something that no one has pointed out (that I've heard), but that the republicans will be all over: Obama's plan says insurance companies can't turn you away, but there's no mandate to sign up. So I'll just drop my insurance and sign up once I need it since they'll have to take me. His plan would give people a reason to drop the insurance they currently have, not a reason to sign up.
Posted by CG at February 5, 2008 05:27 AMCG:
I have an even funnier Ad that could be run if Hillary runs against McCain. They could show a picture of McCain laying on the floor of the Hanoi Hilton and a picture of Hillary renting out the Lincoln bedroom. (HE HE funny huh)
You mind numbing exuberance for Hillary is borderline schizophrenic.
Posted by angryman at February 5, 2008 05:44 AMYour lunatic rantings are starting to scare me. I hope they have your name in the big database of crazy people who aren't allowed to buy guns.
Posted by CG at February 5, 2008 06:05 AMLike mparker, above, I am going to vote today without the certainty that my vote will be counted, that it will matter.
What I am more concerned with is whether voting for any person will matter. I do not believe that the winner will be able to repair the damage of the Bush/Cheney Junta or to make America a great country. So I don't expect that.
But is it too much to ask the winner to try?

I am with you; no matter who wins period.
Good Morning CG:
What you said about Obama made me laugh so hard. Since you were telling jokes; figured I would return the favor.
Do you really want to have me committed because we don’t see eye to eye do you? I am afraid that your exuberance for everything Clinton may be pushing you over the edge. Don’t need guns; I have my words.
Speaking of: I have sent a request for people to help you. Don’t be alarmed as the guys in white suits enter your room…they are your friends. They’re going to take you to a happy place; some place safe with padded rooms. Don’t be alarmed. Yes you can have your lolly and teddy.
I don't want to have you committed because we don't see eye to eye. I want to have you committed because you're so angry your head might explode. You seem to know quite a bit about the men in white suits--sounds like you have some experience there.
I'm really not sure what Clinton exuberance you're talking about. Yeah, I like her. Yeah, I'll vote for her. I have friends and family members who are supporting Obama or thinking about it. I have not tried to change their minds because I'm not entirely sure that I'm right and they're wrong. I've actually tried to jump on the Obama bandwagon, but it's just not working for me. Here, I'm simply trying to point out, and thinking out loud about what will be thrown at Obama in a general election. I don't know why you keep yelling at me (more on other threads than here.) So that's why I'm worried about you. I'm just calmly pointing things out for discussion and you come back ranting. I've had people disagree with me on here before, but I'm generally so low key and non-controversial that no one actually rants at me. I don't care if you do--I'm just worried about your sanity and your blood pressure.
Posted by CG at February 5, 2008 06:54 AMGet out there and vote!!! Nothing you think, believe or feel is worth a plug nickel if you aren't marking up a ballot (or begging the electronic touch pad to enter your vote).
Posted by phidipides at February 5, 2008 08:01 AMCG;
Don’t try to be nice to me now because the guys in white suits and butterfly nets are coming for ya. I am sure underneath your goofy exterior you are a kind and sympathetic person. Your concern for my wellbeing is awe-inspiring. I mean the thoughtfulness of your questions concerning my mental well being, my blood pressure and your concern about my capacity to own a gun are just awesome. (COMPUTER HUG)
Now back to business. Hillary is an OPEN CESSPOOL waiting to be unleashed on America.
Today is voting day people. Lets get out there and Obama over the top! Not for me but because of CG and people like her. Obama has the best healthcare alternative.
Posted by angryman at February 5, 2008 08:02 AM(COMPUTER HUG)
Aww, shucks. Thanks.
I can't vote today--not until next Tuesday.
Lets get out there and Obama over the top! Not for me but because of CG and people like her. Obama has the best healthcare alternative.
Thanks. His plan will save me money since I'll be able to drop my health insurance altogether and only sign up once something is wrong with me and I really need it.
Posted by CG at February 5, 2008 08:28 AMHey as long as it is not another mandatory government program whose premiums comes out of my check or Income tax return? What happens if you don't have money? Someone going to take the premium out of my backside, throw me in jail, or give me bad credit. Or will this be another big government give a way managed by the government? (YUCK!)
Posted by angryman at February 5, 2008 08:49 AMHey as long as it is not another mandatory government program whose premiums comes out of my check or Income tax return?
As long as it doesn't cost you, eh?
Spoken like a true progressive.
Posted by snark at February 5, 2008 08:59 AMI really do understand the unease people have with a mandate. But you don't get universal coverage without it. And I think Hillary has a good point when she says that if you don't at least start with a universal plan, there's no way you'll get there. Obama is naive if he thinks that people will choose health insurance over cable tv. There are people who can afford it who don't get it and then we all pay for them when they show up in the ER. Making everyone enroll lowers costs. Hillary's plan caps rates at a percentage of income. We "garnish" wages to pay for your social security whether you want it or not and whether you can afford it or not. This isn't much different.
Posted by CG at February 5, 2008 09:06 AMSnark you have it wrong as usual. Point is that I am happy with the insurance I have and don't want government insurance (thank you).
I prefer to keep my own money and pay as little taxes as possible.
angryman, with Clinton's plan you just keep your own insurance that you're happy with. I'd expect you to be more informed that that.
I prefer to keep my own money and pay as little taxes as possible.
Sounds like Romney is your guy.
Posted by CG at February 5, 2008 09:10 AMCG:
You just regurgitated that speech verbatim. I heard Hillary say the exact things during the Debates. How did you do that? Oh I got it ….. You are tricky girl. You cut and pasted those words from Clinton’s speech the other night didn’t you? Shame on you.
Having money taken out for taxes is one thing. Large percentages are another story. I prefer to have my own insurance and have to cost lowered so that I can go out and select the plan that I like.
CG:
Do you Coyote and Snark know each other? Are you folks from the same state?
I'm not sure whether coyote and snark know each other, but I don't know either of them. I'd love to know them though! Where's coyote been today? I've been missing her.
Posted by CG at February 5, 2008 10:01 AMThanks, CG, that's so nice! As Rude Pundit always says "Clark Kent duties are calling," so I'm not going to be able to hang out much. I'm trying to keep an eye on the returns, but it'll be sporadic.
Posted by iamcoyote at February 5, 2008 10:15 AMAngryman, they explained it to you, TWICE.
In Hillary's plan, if you already have insurance that you like, you keep it. End of story. You already MET the requirement.
The "mandate" is only for those who don't already HAVE insurance.
Sheesh, I think you just like to complain.
Posted by Mary at February 5, 2008 10:18 AMQuestion for McCain in the general:
Will there be a new military draft to fight all of the new wars you referred to?
Regarding the need for everyone to have health insurance: Even a 21 year old in perfect health can have a serious accident and be put into a mountain of debt overnight.
Hey TIKI, have you gotten a chance to see the repuke list of candidates in AZ?
