Comments: Rice tries to shift the blame for Bush's Afghan disaster

Shoe Lady of Victory: "Golly, we sure don't want to denigrate our fabulous allies, but we do have to Tell the Truth, that's all my husband and I ever want to do---it's all we ever do ourselves, that's for sure.

So, with the highest level of diplomatic respect and niceness and all, allow me to say, with appreciation for your efforts, you allies lost Afghanistan. Thank you".

(whispering to aide): "Where's Afghanistan again? Do they like us?"

Nero jr: "We're Truth-tellers! Sorta like Promise-Keepers. We're all about the truth in Murica. And Freedom. Let Freedom Ring!

Now, when kin I veto sumpthin' agin? I like that veto power, that's what Dick calls it, veto POWER---veto, veto, veto, it's fun ta say, too! (aside to faceless WH aide): Hey Tinkerbell, is that all for the day?"

Hillary is on the job already! Bin Laden's head is in a freezer at Hillary's campaign headquarters.

His coming out party will be two days before the general election. Dam the Diebolds, full speed ahead!

Come on Turkana, this election has been a lovely distraction from the ongoing disasters of the Bush administration. Don't spoil it with reality!

this is the second day in a row where I've read something that used the word "apace". Is that word in some popular rap song or something?

LADAH: A Taliban spokesman declared on Wednesday a unilateral ceasefire from South Waziristan to Swat, saying no security forces would be targeted.

“We will not attack any security person, be it in Waziristan or in Swat (district),” Taliban spokesman Maulvi Umar told Daily Times from an undisclosed location.

However, the military said that operations against militants would continue. “This (Taliban ceasefire) is [a] one-sided (announcement). We received no formal communiqué,” spokesman Major General Athar Abbas said.

Seems AQI has gone to the use of 'seed corn'.

Recent reports of the Taliban's demise may be premature; continuing the 07:02 PM comment citation:
"Maulvi Umar denied the ceasefire was the result of “secret negotiations”, claiming the Taliban were responding to a reduction in the military’s attacks on them. “We will not attack the security forces till [our] next announcement,” he said. “We see a marked decrease in intensity of attacks on us.”
Tribal sources said a Taliban shura (council) had decided on the ceasefire after the government had “agreed to meet certain points.”"

Seems AQI has gone to the use of 'seed corn'.
Perhaps. But why AQI (al Qaeda in Iraq) would be resorting to seed corn owing to the success of an ally many hundreds of kilometers and two countries to the East is not intuitively obvious from the citation offered. Unless, of course it's Pervez Musharraf's seed corn being consumed.

Let's see what the cousins think about Operation Enduring Freedom:
"LONDON: Senior researchers at Britain’s International Institute for Strategic Studies warned on Tuesday that “neo-Taliban” groups operating in Pakistan’s tribal areas may soon become a global menace.
He (J. Chipman, D-G, IISS)said international terrorism remains a “growth industry” and that the groups in Pakistan had earned the “dubious honour” of making the most strides during the past year.

(PK: Global menace...most strides...must be some smokin' seed corn.)

The think tank said Afghanistan risks becoming a failed state if Nato troops do not defeat the Taliban, boosting Islamist extremism worldwide, warning the West was struggling with a lack of resources.

(PK: Lack of resources? No kidding. Someone's pinchin' our seed corn.)

It also lamented growing signs that the insurgency was expanding from the south of the country into northern provinces, with rebels learning lessons from Iraq.

(PK: Betcha' 10 large that damn AQI's been trading lessons for seed corn.)

The report echoed warnings last week from two US think-tanks – the Atlantic Council of the United States and the Afghanistan Study Group – who said troop levels had to be ramped up and major changes had to be implemented urgently.

(PK: Great! The Yanks're on it. Mission Accomplished! When's the parade?)

Birth pangs of a new South West Asia! Heck of a job, Condi.

As always, thanks again Turkana for a good post & dogging this issue.

I agree. The fact that we are seemingly making NO effort to catch OBL is sickening. That's the job we wanted Bush to do. And now we never even talk about it.

I bet even OJ still talks about looking for "the real killer".

"Oh, but if you think this about the search for one man, you obviously don't understand terrorism."

No, but I understand justice and focus and even vengeance.

I don't wanna be dramatic, but doesn't it bother anybody that we didn't catch the guy we said did 9/11, and 6+ years later Ground Zero still looks like Ground Zero?

Meanwhile, if I call my friend in Germany, I can count on it being logged and monitored by our government.

Bravo, George.

Blaming your friends doesn't bode well for Bush's legacy. Hey, how's McCain going to handle that? Raise taxes to pay for this folly? Anyway, let's hope Obama and/or Hillary deal with this soon.
