Comments: The Unitary Decider and the Enabling Democrats

Bush has seized monarchial powers and we have done NOTHING. The Founding Fathers knew what to do with their king.

The remedy for this is right in the constitution.

The House could stop funding the executive branch tomorrow. Impeachment could be debated and voted on next week.

There are no other remedies, especially with MuKasey. It's interesting to see that he literally has no concern about what Congress might do when faced with such stonewalling and condoned executive lawbreaking.

I think we can say the Dems are bad poker players....

What would you expect from a pResident when Congress has said you can do anything and everything you want including ignoring the law and the Constitution? Pelosi should be ousted at the first opportunity along with all the other enablers. We are either a Nation that believes in the rule of law or we aren't. Which will it be?

I'm still waiting for Clinton and Obama to weigh in on this latest Bush travesty (or anything).

Taking Michael Mukasey's logic to it's tragic conculsion; if the Justice Department said it was in the Nations' interest to put Jewish people in concentration camps then anyone acting under those directives whould be absolved from any of the murders and tortures that went on in the concentration camp - becasue they acting under the Department of Justices directives.

Shame on Shumer and shame on Fienstein for voting for this guy buckling under pressure of the neo-con pro-Israeli lobby.

Our government no longer "a government for the people and by the poeple" but a client state of global corporations.

Based on Mukasey's logic their should not have been any hung Nazi's after the Numberg trials!

A simple defense of we were acting under orders from the Fuherer - are suffice !!!

Pelosi and Reid care more about their majority status than anything else. Now that they both are in power, they don't want to lose it.

It is one of the major reasons that people like Kennedy supported Obama b/c they think they can steer him towards whatever goals they wanted. Dems in Congress are scared of another health care battle forved upon them by Hillary. They are worried that the Rethugs can use it against them.

Pelosi enjoys her status now as the only power woman in DC. Reid too. They will do anything to held on to the majority status.

This is just depressing.

Obama or Clinton--whoever wins--needs to make it crystal clear that McCain is another 4 years of Bush, and then needs to spell out all the lawbreaking that has gone on. That twisted logic of Mukasey's is unbelievable. Wasn't it Nixon who said it's not a crime if the president does it? Same thing here--it's not a crime if the president's lawyer says it's not. Same thing with the telecoms--it's not a crime if the president said it's not. Do you think the telecoms ran it past their own lawyers? *sigh* Sorry for rambling.

I think that at least 70% of Americans pretty well understand that electing John McOld will bring 4 more years of the same crap that Bush has brought us. The only questions left to be answered is how the GOP Corporate owned Media will try to tell us it ain't so, and how many of that 70% will buy it.

I wish I had as much faith in the American electorate. I don't think they realize it at all. Once we get our nominee and start having debates with McCain, I'd really like these questions of secrecy and law to be asked. I'd like to see if he gives the same runaround as Mukasey, and if not, will he do anything about it.

"...the Bush Administration believes it is above the law, and Congressional Democrats concur."
Desperation unifies them as failure threatens their common interests.

"The America you thought you knew no longer exists."
It's still there, growing stronger and angrier, it's patience nearly exhausted.

So far no candidate has given the slightest indication that the Bushco/Repub cry of "please break the law to protect us!" will be something they campaign on.

It's like they don't have a clue as to how to present the concepts of rule of law and the executive's obligation to follow existing law to the pinheads.

It doesn't seem like many Americans cared about the Scooter pardon, the waarantless surveillance, the now clearly admitted torture or the desperate attempt to immunize data mining via "telecom" (i.e Cheney) immunity.

I think the ship has sailed on Americans caring about the rule of law---they don't care, it's as simple as that.

That's probably why the Dems just sit and have Bush's AG smear the authoritarian shit in their faces while they smile. Some "majority". Majority to do what?

Euzoius, majority to do nothing. Wouldn't want to interfer with the Authoritarian Movement would we?

I would agree with John that Pelosi and Reid are only interested in holding onto their majorities now that they're in power but for one thing. They're not in power.
