Turkana,
If Edwards endorses a candidate, does his pledged delegates goes to candidate he has endorsed?
Also, by moving primary and caucus dates did NH and IA violated DNC rules or not?
The solution is clear. Endorse Al Gore!
Seriously, if he did mistakenly make an endorsement, he would be the only Democratic ex-candidate to do so. He should just sit this one out. His supporters, like me, should be left to make our own decisions.
The Edwards camp was among the least likely to foster a cult of personality. Frankly, I would not be likely to change my mind based on whatever he said.
Posted by DeminNewJ at February 11, 2008 01:16 PMEdwards.... I question the impact of his endorsement. Sure, it could throw his supporters to one of the others, but I'm thinking they will make their mind up individually, not as a block, lessening the impact to either Obama or Clinton's campaign. A Gore endorsement on the other hand.....
Posted by T2 at February 11, 2008 01:19 PMbkk,
i believe he can release his pledged delegates, but they can still vote however they want. as for ia and nh, i don't know, but the dnc isn't making an issue of it, either way.
Posted by Turkana at February 11, 2008 01:19 PMTurkana, I will do some research and see if by moving dates did IA and NH violated DNC rules. If NH/IA have violated, they better seat FL and MI delegates and award candidates the delegates they won in those states. Apply the rules uniformly should be the goal. Let me check.
Posted by BKK at February 11, 2008 01:23 PMHe would be an idiot to endorse. He stays out of the fray, then can support the party candidate.
Posted by stellaa at February 11, 2008 02:16 PMI understand why many think that Edwards leans towards Obama, but my gut (I have a good gut) tells me that if that was the case, Edwards would have done it before Feb 5. My gut says that he may not like Hillary on a personal level as much as he likes Obama, but Edwards, being a very analytical person, understands the weaknesses of Obama are too deep to disregard. That's the reason for the delay. Edwards is having a dialog between his logical mind and his emotional side. Logic will win out and Edwards will endorse Hillary. Obama's weaknesses will become apparent when they meet next time.

Why? She doesn't seem unlikable to me at all. Seriously. Is there a reason that you know of why Edwards doesn't like Hillary personally?
Posted by at February 11, 2008 05:40 PMI think he's torn about all the 'he's really just a corporate shill after all' verbiage he'll get if he endorses Hillary for her healthcare plan.
Then again, he might endorse Obama if he can get the man to agree to mandates after all.
Does anybody here think Edward's endorsement would make any real difference? I'm not sure it would help Obama more than these past news cycles; I'm not sure it would help Hillary either, if the press doesn't cover it. Remember, he's the INVISIBLE CANDIDATE.
Tired. Need a beer. Enjoy one yourself, too, folks.
Posted by blogtopus at February 11, 2008 09:20 PMThe only way Edwards' endorsement would matter is if he somehow endorsed Clinton, which seems unlikely. Even if this was the case, I wouldn't be surprised if Obama came out with Gore's endorsement (a strong rumor).
Either way, it seems the nomination is Obama's to lose.
Posted by Nathan at February 11, 2008 10:27 PMIf Edwards endorses him after being mocked by Obama in campaign speeches, it'll be akin to the McCain/Bush hug to me.
