Comments: Don't ever piss off Kagro X

From the comments on the thread below:

The major winners are Sunni Muslims — who won a limited amnesty for prisoners

I love how this kind of amnesty is just peachy with republicans, as is amnesty for the telecoms, but they think paying your debt to society in the form of fines and back taxes is amnesty for illegal immigrants.

I was explaining the whole telecom immunity thing to my kids last night (and my husband ;)) and my 9-yr-old daughter wanted to know why people weren't just suing Bush himself instead of the telecoms, and why, since Bush broke the law, he wasn't being hauled off to jail. Smart girl.

Slow day. I'll just talk to myself.

Someone called into either the Diane Rehm Show or cspan (can't remember) wanting to know why Obama, who has "always been against the war" and "wants change", campaigned for Lieberman in 2006 instead of Lieberman's anti-war opponent.

I think it would be easy for Hillary to point out Obama's hypocrisy in a lot of areas, but I hate for her to do McCain's work for him, especially if Obama ends up going up against Mr. Straight-talk in the general.

McCain, like Hillary, has already been vetted (to some extent) and people already know who he is and have an impression of him. It'll take a lot to undo the "straight talk" reputation. But I think Obama and McCain can both only go down in the eyes of the public--they're both pretty highly regarded. Hillary can only go up. That's my theory anyway.

Happy Valentines Day to the women commentators of the Left Coaster!

Seven of Six thank you and a Happy Valentines Day to you.

Happy Hallmark Holiday to all!

Don't neglect to shower your mate with flowers and candy and cheesy greeting cards just because everyone else is doing it today!

It was amazing watching the pack rifle through the shelves of cheap chocolate and racks of cards in the local Duane Reade store last night.

Cause nothin' says "I Love You" like saying just cause someone tells you you should!

Posted by snark at February 14, 2008 06:47 AM

God, and I thought I was cynical.

Posted by Judith at February 14, 2008 07:00 AM

Happy Valentine's Day Judith.

Posted by snark at February 14, 2008 07:04 AM

I outdid Hallmark and made Valentines out of red construction paper, white paper doilies, using silver glitter pen-ink for the greeting and stuck on a sweet photo of my kitty when he was just tiny sleeping and hugging an equal-sized stuffed toy.
Happy Valentines Day to all those who celebrate it!

Posted by Sharon at February 14, 2008 07:11 AM

Sharon, I got one of those Valentines from my daughter - she's 22! She also got me a new gerber daisy for my garden Woohoo! I got both of them candy and the Time Bandits dvd - we're in the process of converting our VHS library. But yes, I agree with snark that we shouldn't have to be told when and how we can say "I love you," just to give the greeting card company a boost. And for any guy wondering what some women are thinking about this day and the advertising that goes with it, read this post, and the comments that go with it. It's funny, but *warning* a discussion of sexist attitudes ensues.

Kargo X pissed me off. His long post can be summarized precisely in 3 sentences without all the mambo jumbo.

Every Hillary fan should read this:

Posted by pledgedonly at February 14, 2008 07:40 AM

Sorry, pledgedonly, I saw "paglia" in the url and knew it'd be bullshit either way. I got as far as:

The old-guard feminist establishment has also rushed out of cold storage to embrace Hillary Clinton via tremulous manifestoes of gal power that have startlingly exposed the sentimental slackness of thought that made Gloria Steinem and company wear out their welcome in the first place. Hillary's gonads must be sending out sci-fi rays that paralyze the paleo-feminist mind -- because her career, attached to her husband's flapping coattails, has sure been heavy on striking pious attitudes but ultra-light on concrete achievements.

What nerve to call Steinem an "old-guard feminist," eh? Not to mention those "old-guard feminists" are the ones who fought and took the hits to get what few advances women have made up to now so people like Coulter have the microphone to spout shit like "women shouldn't be allowed to vote." Paglia's a hack and a dolt who only wishes she had Coulter's audience.

Posted by iamcoyote at February 14, 2008 07:51 AM

Wow! Camille Paglia is brilliant! Her argument? Obama is more electable than Hillary who has only "riden her husbands coat tails" to where she is anyway. I'm in awe.

But I have to wonder about her though. She then goes on to talk about how she was surprised to learn of Suzanne Pleshette's passing only days after it happened. Not sure where she gets her news but I saw it all over the internets right after it happened.

I'm a bit entertained by all the uproar over "super delegates". Odd how no one had any problem with this before now. And the conflation of the inner workings of how the Democratic Party goes about selecting it's nominee for the office of president with some vague notion of the nations democratic rights being violated is the best part.

Posted by snark at February 14, 2008 08:08 AM

Paglia stopped being relevant in the '70s, if she ever was relevant to begin with. But I'm waiting breathlessly for Sadly No to take her apart like they did with her last column.

Posted by iamcoyote at February 14, 2008 08:09 AM

Why would you trash a really nice town with no property taxes, that you probably have never been to just because you can't get a point across in a timely manner? Joe Lieberloser and anyone who likes him is an ass hole. Boy, THAT was hard to spit out.

"Show Low, the commercial and tourism hub of the White Mountains, was established in 1870 and incorporated in 1953. Located in southern Navajo County at an elevation of 6,412 feet, our city is 175 miles northeast of Phoenix and 195 miles north of Tucson." ...They even have a webb site!

I'm a bit entertained by all the uproar over "super delegates".

But Hillary agreed to the rules, dammit!! What? Heh. Never mind.

Posted by iamcoyote at February 14, 2008 08:19 AM

Quite amusing that John Kerry and Teddy Kennedy have REFUSED to follow the pledged delegates of their own home state and endorse Hillary Clinton, eh?

The rules are the rules except when they're not.

Frankly, Donna Brazille's whining about superdelegates, when she's been involved for years and never complained until her preferred candidate needed them, strikes me as quite the foolish gibberish.

I'll give no more money to the DNC until Florida and Michigan are reinstated, as Obama previously supported. He was FOR it before he was AGAINST it, you know.

As usual, the Dem Party screws it up, and may snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

So what else is new?

Happy Valentines Day to the women commentators of the Left Coaster!

Ahem!...(tapping foot)...My, it's a nice day!...(whistling some tune)...(getting petulant)...Well, I guess I'll just go get drunk, like anyone cares. Screw Valentines day, just screw it!

Happy V-day all. Grab someone close to you and stuff em the tongue!

One of my favorite V-day stories comes from a prof I had many years ago (great guy, he and his spouse are still good friends). Married later in his life to an older prof. First marriage for both. The first V-day he was trying to think of what to get her. She was a big activist during the 60's and 70's, big eco supporter, anti-corporatization of holidays, etc. So, he thinks of what they need around the house and he got her a vacuum cleaner. Big freakin mistake!

Posted by phidipides at February 14, 2008 08:53 AM

new Rasmussen poll on the GE is kinda scary....in short, if you want John McOld as president, nominate Hillary.

Posted by T2 at February 14, 2008 09:40 AM

phiddy: You must be sore after that long story. If you are able to "type" for more than 4 hours, ask scout to call a doctor for you.

Posted by TIKI AL at February 14, 2008 09:46 AM

Ahem!...(tapping foot)...My, it's a nice day!...

I said that just to make you jealous phid!

Happy Valentines Day phid! I'm really glad your back here commenting.

"Happy Valentines Day phid! I'm really glad your back here commenting."

I second that comment.

Posted by Judith at February 14, 2008 12:33 PM

I suppose it is nice to have phidip back commenting.

Even though I don't like being called an assclown or a fuckwad.

But if I had to choose I suppose....ummm...fuckwad is preferable.

Posted by snark at February 14, 2008 12:45 PM

Happy Valentines Day phid!

Happy V-day SoS, Judith, iac, Tiki, all y'all, and that assclown snark (BIG GRIN)!

Snark, Don't take to great an offense, buddy. K? If I targeted you I will sincerely apologize and ask you to accept my apology. You are certainly no assclown...nor a fuckwad.

Posted by phidipides at February 14, 2008 04:39 PM

Back at you, brave, dear phiddy. (I hope scout chokes on a chocolate heart)

I assume by your post, "it" hasn't gone down yet.

Posted by TIKI AL at February 14, 2008 04:54 PM

Paglia - no thanks

And KargoX - in desperate need of anger management therapy
