Interesting article. Big Business is getting ready to shear some more sheep.

Sorry to change the subject, but there is no other place to put this. I'll try to ask this as nicely as possible...
As you know, I (and many others) have been very critical of this blog for being so ridiculously pro-Hillary over the past few months. You all have posted numerous entries slamming Obama and praising, I believe uncritically, Senator Clinton. You, particularly, have been an extremist for Hillary and against Obama. You have claimed all kinds of ugliness by the Obama campaign and pretty much refused to acknowledge the unbelievably slimy tactics of the Clinton camp.
Yet, over the last few days, the Clinton campaign has shamed itself six different ways as they go down in flames. It has been offensive to watch them try to throw anything and everything at Senator Obama. But, strangely, The Left Coaster has now gone dark for a few days on the Obama bashing and Hillary love fest. Why is that?
Why not have an entry calling the Clinton campaign out for all its nastiness? By not doing it, you all seem to actually reinforce the original critique of this blog...
So, that is my question for you and the other usual suspects.
Have a nice final week of the Clinton campaign.
Posted by at February 26, 2008 05:25 AMStill can't bring yourself to sign your posts, eh, Patrick? And like any authoritarian, you need to not only win the primary, you must have total capitulation from your opponents to validate your own belief system. It's just like the Christianists and the Bushbots, really. It wasn't enough for them to steal the White House twice, they demanded everyone to kneel to their gods and wear their symbolic flags on their lapels. You don't seem to understand that your resemblance to the Bush Brownshirts is the reason why you're so disliked here, and, I'm sure, in other comment threads not devoted to lionizing the Great Obama. You've become what we've spent all these years fighting: the loyalty police. New boss, same as the old boss, with minions just as whiny, demanding and insecure as the outgoing idiot. Poor thing, you don't even see it, do you, Patrick?
Posted by iamcoyote at February 26, 2008 05:57 AMWow, Dodd would make a great v/p.
Posted by Seven of Six at February 26, 2008 06:40 AMBoy I screwed that up.
Wow, Dodd would make a great v/p.
Posted by Seven of Six at February 26, 2008 06:42 AMHuh?
I think you have mistakenly linked Mary, Left Coaster contributor, with another person named Mary who simply comments here.
Two different people I believe.
But let me address your "substance" so we don't have to hear more whining later on. The Left Coaster has not been uncritically praising Clinton. There has been a very solid effort made here to correct misrepresentations of CLinton and her record that have proliferated on many left leaning blogs. There has been a very solid effort to compare the records and positions of Obama and Clinton as a response to the rabid anti-Hillary discourse that dominated much of the left blogosphere's coverage of the campaigns. The Clinton campaign is in a fight for the nomination that is gonna play out within the next week and a half. Are some of their "surrogates" stepping on the line? Perhaps, and that's unfortunate. Is the rhetoric getting a bit heated? Undoubtedly. Maybe after Obama "changes" Washington we won't have to deal with the politics of politics anymore? We can all "hope".
Posted by snark at February 26, 2008 06:48 AMGood for Obama SoS.
And thanks for the email the other day. Sorry I didn't get back to you.
Posted by snark at February 26, 2008 06:50 AMReally Patrick, all credibility is lost when you can't even sign your own name... and please, quit the begging.
Posted by Seven of Six at February 26, 2008 06:55 AMahhhh... iamcoyote comes out of retirement to attack, attack, attack. Note she does not deal with the substance of my email.
Again, I do not sign my posts because this blog similarly refuses to identify itself accurately as a pro-Hillary blog. I've explained this a number of times. If TLC does that, I will start signing my entries.
If it a different Mary, then my apologies. My points still stand, though. Hillary has lost her mind over the last few days, yet there is absolutely ZERO critical analysis at TLC.
You think if Obama was "throwing the kitchen sink" at Hillary, as one Clinton staffer has described this last desperate ploy by Hillary's campaign, that this blog wouldn;t be hammering him as it has done mercilessly and disingenuously for months now?
7 of 6: I'm not begging, just calling bullshit on this ardently pro-Hillary blog.
Posted by at February 26, 2008 07:13 AMAgain, I do not sign my posts because this blog similarly refuses to identify itself accurately as a pro-Hillary blog.
The ol' "hold your breath 'til you turn blue and mommy does what you want" ploy, eh? That's the "subtance" of your "email," Baby Huey, and that is what I was addressing.
Posted by iamcoyote at February 26, 2008 07:20 AMTalk about a bubble...Barack Obama as Bernie Ebbers. His following as Worldcom. The rise from a $5.00 stock to $62.00, the burst...a fall back to earth valued in 2002 at ten cents. When will Obama's bubble burst, before the convention or after. Intoxication and the narcotics of Obama's rise will only take you so far. Insurgents can't govern. Take some more, drink more of that koolaid. Another Jimmy Carter is at hand, he is Barack Obama.
And thank you Hillary Clinton or some low life associate for putting out that picture of Obama in Kenya. You elevated him to look presidencial by the picture. Exactly the wrong image you intended.
Posted by peter at February 26, 2008 07:25 AMSo, did ANYONE read the Harper's piece?
I thought so. It makes a nice laxative and caffeine substitute.
For one thing, it outlines in fairly sharp terms (even for those of limited intelligence) that the next administration will be dealing with the real-estate bubble deflation through at least 2012 and almost 2016. And if the author's assumptions continue to be correct, there will be simultaneous alternative-energy industry bubble inflation peaking in 2014.
If the non-petroleum energy industries are in an inflation cycle, does this mean even greater rising energy costs?
Posted by idiosynchronic at February 26, 2008 07:31 AMAnother Jimmy Carter is at hand, he is Barack Obama.
Carter inherited the shit that Ford/Nixon left on the Whitehouse porch, Obama inherit's the bu$h shit, only 10 times more!
I'll take Jimmy Carter over any GOPer at this point in history.
If the non-petroleum energy industries are in an inflation cycle, does this mean even greater rising energy costs?
Probably, since the oil companies will want to maximize profits before they lose customers, and the new kids will "need" startup dough.

If you feel that way don't come here then! There are a bunch of pro-Obama sites.
I'm an Obama supporter but I'm a regular here, they can blog what they want.
When and if Obama wins the nomination come on back. This blog will be solidly behind the nominee.
We both know Hillary's 10 state strategy will be the result of collapse. If she is the nominee, it certainly will be her downfall in the GE.
And Mark Penn is a disaster, that fucker has got to go...
Gas lines here we come, even and odd plates, fights, etc.
Posted by peter at February 26, 2008 08:14 AMGas lines here we come, even and odd plates, fights, etc.
Right peter... without that cheney energy policy the oil companies will have to find a strategy to fight back for profits.
Posted by Seven of Six at February 26, 2008 08:22 AM7 of 6: I hear ya. I'm not interested in a fawning pro-Obama site, either. What I am interested in is a more reasonable and fair-minded discussion of the issues. On many non-election issues, TLC does a fine job. And, more recently, the campaign coverage has been a bit better.
Anyway, tonight's debate should be very interesting...

Actually, you're not, Patrick. You're here to attempt to stamp out one of the few remaining spots in the leftosphere that hasn't sucked down the Obama koolaid and turned rabid like yourself. You just can't stand that there are people out there that don't share your hero-worship. In reality, your main purpose is to gloat - why else would you make the comment:
Have a nice final week of the Clinton campaign.
Which is the reason you showed up here in the first place, to post about us "crybabies" and whine about the Hillary bias here after Iowa, and every day since then. You were an asshole then, you're an asshole today, and you'll be an asshole after the election. I'd be willing to bet you were an asshole before you got here, too. No matter what happens with Obama, you still smell of shit, Patrick, and always will.
Posted by iamcoyote at February 26, 2008 09:10 AMLet's see Seven, "a Carter anytime", followed by another Reagan...A Reagan to clean up all the messes President Carter made.
Posted by peter at February 26, 2008 09:14 AMA Reagan to raise taxes 7 times, A Reagan to increase the debt more. Yes that is what we need!
Posted by goose1 at February 26, 2008 09:18 AM"Gas lines here we come, even and odd plates, fights, etc."
WOW, pants pissing peter finally got one right, after 7 years of Bush's "leadership" this country is screwed

Beats the soup line you dumb bastards almost have us in.

Guess the easier question is "what hasn't Bush screwed up"?

Beats the soup line you dumb bastards almost have us in.
There's still soup lines left in bu$h-america?
Posted by Seven of Six at February 26, 2008 01:20 PMI have been sitting on the sidelines for a long time, but the Harper's article piqued my interest.
If you think about it, Bush has been stunningly successful for the petroleum and war-mongers industries. His policies have allowed the Bush Oil Buddies to keep pumping expensive oil out of the Gulf of Mexico and other high cost environments and have given the Saudi's the benefit of pumping the last of their oil at a high profit. Bush has been extremely successful in keeping the cheap-to-produce Iraqi and Iranian oil and gas completely off of the market. All of this has been financed with fiat-paper that has substantially inflated the value of oil assets and has seriously weakened the dollar at the expense of American consumers.
If you run the numbers, it costs about $25,000 per housing unit to fully equip it with photoelectric panels providing all needed electricity. Photovoltaics are the most expensive alternative energy technology. We have (or ultimately will have to spend) at least two trillion for the War in Iraq that has so handsomly provided for Bush and his buddies. Essentially, we could now have used the most expensive alternative energy technology to completely power ALL of the nation's residential units and a chunk of the commercial establishments for the cost of the Iraq War.
The mortgage bubble is going to be combined with a military-petroleum bubble for a double whammy.
Only after all of that are we finally going to begin to develop alternative energy.
What a rip-off! We are a really dumb people!
