Comments: "They're shooting our people like dogs."

China is an oppressive totalitarian nation, now made inconceivably wealthy by the West's corporate-backed "globalization" policies of the past 15 years.

Russia is "turning away" because it has its own ethnic minorities to brutalize and wants a free hand when it does so. And we will "turn away" (the cowardly Bush may mouth a meaningless "protest") because China provides a huge amount of our Wal-Mart-imported consumer-trinket economy, holds around $1.4 trillion of US treasuries and is a principal and crucial financier of our overwhelming trade deficit, buying US securities with the dollars it earns, thus propping our bankrupt national economy up.

So no one is going to "do" anything about the brutal repression and destruction of Tibet, an historically separate and independent nation that was invaded and occupied during the Cold War by the aggressive Chinese almost 60 years ago---the longest ongoing foreign occupation on earth, I believe.

We can't do anything to anger our banker and we certainly won't. "Conservatives", neocons and corporatists have long ago decided that making money off China was more important than "spreadin' democracy" and now we're too weak and dependent to do anything but look away as the carnage ensues.

BushAmerica, the "Glorious Begger", only bullies, talks tough and invades weak, defenseless countries like Iraq---we cravenly look at the ground while powerful nations like China brutally opppress "their" people, and then ask our banking master for another "loan". We are now militarily and economically weak and contemptible as a nation---and China is well aware of it.

speaking of a place where people are still being killed, from Juan Cole:

"If the Vice President of the United States can't visit the most fortified place in Baghdad, the capital of the country he militarily occupies, without risking a mortar strike, then things are still not all the great. I don't believe Gen. MacArthur in Tokyo suffered any similar humiliation."

Then there's this big possibility that bad number 2 may be one of those killed in our latest attack near Wana. The local news has it as unconfirmed that say a doctor of Arab origin who frequented the compound was among the dead. We can all hope...

I really don't wish anyone dead, but I would have a hard time even feigning tears over the one Peter's talking about. Short of bringing him into justice, I'd gladly accept a kill if that was all there was to be had. And let's not kid. He's not no. 2. He's the brains and the brawn and the murderous intent behind those jerks.

Okay, pete, looked all over the news, found nothing on this. Sounds like a complete b.s. rumor to me.

Turkana,
Granted you do not agree with my choice of OBAMA as the ideal Demo nominee; however, the FACT that you or someone removed by brief comment on Tibet (the thread) linking Tibetean oppression to Chinese imports to Wal-Mart (where H. Clinton was a board member)to US job loss, etc.

This is post hoc CENSORSHIP which as a long time reader and sometime commenter suggests the need for better EDITORIAL CONTROL BT STEVE.

I ask for your apology.
