Although I have written little the past several months, I vote to keep the Open Thread. Often over the years, I have waited until the Open Thread to post something of value, or someone has posted information that developed into a meatly conversation. I'm not quite sure I understand Ron's position.
Posted by Judith at April 2, 2008 01:28 AMi don't see that having open threads is a problem for anyone..it's beneficial..no one is forcing anyone to post anything
Posted by dennis at April 2, 2008 02:00 AMSpeaking of Open Threads, the 2003 memo approving harsh interrogation tactics allowing torture has been released by the Pentagon. pResident Bush's wartime authority trumps any international ban on torture. Furthermore, "if the criminal prohibitions applied, and an interrogation method might violate those prohibitions, necessity or self-defense could provide justifications for any criminal liability," the memo concluded. I'm sure that defense would hold up at The Hague.

Keep them.
Posted by emal at April 2, 2008 03:39 AMWhy is anyone bothered by the open thread? Don't need it, just ignore it.
Posted by Koshembos at April 2, 2008 03:48 AMDefinitely keep them!
Posted by CG at April 2, 2008 05:23 AMI am finding it hard to read DailyKOS anymore.
It used to be such a good positive site for anything Democrat and progressive. But now it
is such blatantly anti-Clinton that it's hard
to read.
I mean Kos and others are going after Hilary like
she were at the level of Rove, etc.
Does Kos really think she is that bad.
I mean at a minimum she's out there day after day
hammering on ~almost~ the same things we all want.
It's almost like it's a personal grievance the guy
has.
Sorry....just had to speak my thoughts.
I originally wanted Edwards, I am currently
leaning Clinton but will support whatever
Democrat gets nominated. I'm a realist.
I want George Bush to just go away.
The open threads need to stay.

Posted by iamcoyote at April 2, 2008 05:35 AMSpeaking of anti-Hillary coverage, watch this astonishing clip of Lou Dobbs, taking down the national media -- including CNN's own senior political bobblehead Bill Schneider -- on the rampant anti-Clinton, pro-Obama bias.
Here's a snippet from the clip of Dobbs responding to Schneider's regurgitation of beltway wisdom for why Clinton can't win:
Dobbs: "... but what you said was that she can't win the nomination. Neither can Senator Obama."BS: "That's right, that's right."
Dobbs: "And the fact is that they are separated by about 130 delegate votes, and she has a lead in super delegate votes. So why in the world is there this compulsion, this absolute insistence in the national media, to talk about the fact that she can't win the nomination? Neither can Senator Obama. And I have never seen in my career greater favoritism being applied in the national media, broadly speaking, than in this campaign on behalf of Senator Obama and against Senator Clinton."
As the saying goes, at least a stopped clock is right twice a day.
god bless lou dobbs..some sanity at last
Posted by dennis at April 2, 2008 06:00 AMRon musta been making an April Fool joke since squelching voices is very non-progressive.
So do you think the prez-kin-do-anything-and-it's-legal-if-during-wartime-memo will cover November 2008?
Posted by Sharon at April 2, 2008 06:13 AMI am looking for a Ron-free forum to express my juvenile, superficial, class clown type multi-topic observations on.
Does such a place exist? Any ideas?
Posted by TIKI AL at April 2, 2008 06:33 AMTo thread or not to thread?
I say "YES" to Open Threads!
Posted by Radiowalla at April 2, 2008 06:41 AMSometimes one runs across information that pertains to a thread posted weeks, or even days ago, but you know that no one is reading those anymore.
Open threads have the advantages of reopening a subject and also informing bloggers such as yourselves. They may even lead to a new subject thread.

Kos is progressive, something Hillary Clinton definitely is not. You have sites, such as this one, that cozy up to the corporate wing of the Democratic party. Since your feelings are hurt so easily, I suggest you stick to them.
Posted by Upton at April 2, 2008 07:26 AMKeep the Open Threads. It's a good place to post items like this:
"Nahid Hattar, one of the prominent Jordanian oposition journalists, lays out the argument for what a lot of people instinctively grasp, namely that the events of the past week, even though they laid bare an intra-Shiite split, that split is actually a very positive thing. In fact these events, including what he calls the uprising of the Shiite masses of the South and Center of Iraq, mark the beginning of the end of the American occupation and potentially the start of a non-sectarian approach to Iraqi reconstruction."

Also, the JAMs may be driving the GZG & US embassy from Emerald City.
Too noisy. New quarters may be Kurdistan, BIAP/VBC & 22 Gia Long St.
Looks like Cheney's Operation Knights Assault wasn't completely worthless.

JeffyLube's got nothin' on Ron Jeremy! Well, except when they're filming...

Posted by gtash at April 2, 2008 10:34 AMToday, April 2,
Obama 49%--Clinton 46%, national Gallup Daily Tracking Poll.
Clinton has gained 7% points in the same poll in just 3 days.
Obama's 10% point advantage was all over the media, mainstream as well as "progressive" blogs.
Obama's 7% point drop-not so much.
Posted by CLK at April 2, 2008 10:50 AMThough I write seldom, a couple of times they have given me a place to post important things missed elsewhere.
