How many years did it take for the Russians to get run out of Afghanistan?

Way to take your eyes off the ball there Bushie!

But hey, its on to Tehran!

The Red Army lost 15,000 dead in 8 years in Afghanistan.

The Soviets were much more brutal than the US has been in Iraq, and had a policy of killing everyone and letting God sort them out later.

And remember, they also had to fight the CIA and lots of US toys and taxpayer money.

And that's really saying something!

my recollection is that the Soviets were attempting to take over Afghanistan as a satellite. Our expressed purpose of being in Afghanistan was/is to partner with a democratically elected Afghani government to control/expel Taliban forces and/or al Qaeda for mutual benefit. Seems like a difference. The Soviets were fighting a war of occupation against an entire country, much like we are fighting in Iraq. Give us 3-4 more years in Iraq and no Sadr truce and we'll be approaching 15k dead also. The enemy we are fighting in Afghanistan is much smaller in number than the Soviets fought.

And if we had the medical procedures in place that the Soviets had back then, we would have many more deaths, T2.

Dear Leader was NEVER serious about catching Osama, Bush needed Osama alive and free in order to scare Americans and seize more and more power
