Way to make my Monday morning, confirming something that most of us have known for some time. Personally I'd like to know who those few historians were that said he wasn't the worst ever and their reasons why....not that it matters at this point, but more out of curiosity. Have a good day.
Posted by emal at April 7, 2008 03:50 AMWell, Bush has been called Nero jr around TLC for many years now. And thanks for this post.
Mary, I don't see a reference to the post-election revelation that Nero also intentionally ordered the violation of FISA and a number of other federal laws----that was also unknown at the time of the prior survey and will be a huge issue when the bloated corpse of his legacy starts being carved up by historians.
Many, many catastrophes have gotten underway on Bush's "watch" and the true horror of Bush's inconceivable incompetetence, stupidity, greed, cruelty, blithe indifference and monumental bad judgment will take years to ripple out. Ir will truly be multi-discipline work---economic, diplomatic, legal and political historians will be mining the Bush Years for decades.
Some of these tsunamis include the destruction of the status and position of the US as a result of our lawless invasion/occupation of Iraq (and attack on Iran?), the destabilizing of the Middle East (which will not (and cannot) be restabilized after Bushco), the irreversible destruction of planet's climate, the complete ignoring of Peak Oil and its implications for gas guzzling America, the permanent debasing of the currency, the willful encouragement of crippling personal and public debt, the permanent undermining of the fiscal position of the federal government, the costly destruction of the all volunteer force and its equipment, the insane ballooning of our jingoist militarism and our bloated "defense" industry, etc, etc,---the list could go on for paragraphs. And these don't even deal with his endemic lawbreaking, constitutional perversions and the transformation of the judiciary.
Decades from now, there will be entire curriculums called "Bush Studies" and he will be much discussed and studied, as are all sick, incompentent leaders who dragged their countries and societies into monumental catastrophe.
We haven't yet begun to see the full measure of damage that Bush and Cheney have wrought (nor are they done!), haven't yet begun to see and understand that we cannot get out from under it or clean it up, and thus we will have to wait many years even to fully appreciate the level of calamity these monsters (whom Conservative Pinhead Majority put in office) have saddled us with.
But we already know quite enough to conclude Worst President Ever, although these words are coming to seem wholly inadequate. In terms of the long term damage he was wrought on his country and the world, Bush is a Hitler figure.

...That would make Iraq modern day Poland. This is starting to make sense now. Is Cheney really Goering and Blackwater the SS?
Cheney is more like Himmler. And your pinning the SS tail on the Blackwater donkey is brilliant, amigo.
You and I have discussed the Iraq 2003-Poland 1939 analogy in the past, TIKI. I think it is a much better historical analogy than most I've seen, particuarly if Bush wants to trot out his WWIII fantasy.....
