"Earnest partners in blogtopia helping them every day, in any way possible, until the election is over and Republicans are ripped into defeat everywhere. "
I agree completely. The next task might be harder. The media is at present playing defence. They are defending the undefencible. After the election they will be playing offence. Be prepared for the cries of "traitor" 24/7 if the D-president tries to end iraq or bring som semblance of sanity to the government and foreign policy. They will quickly establish a "dagger in the back" theme.
Then we will have to learn to play defence and defend policies that we might not be 100% to our liking. That will be interesting. :)
Just as with the FISA story, I’m very angry and disgusted the story broke well after it had any chance to be useful.
We're probably only hearing about it now because "the war" isn't going well.
Remember the the grand hand washers of ancient history: Pontius Pilate, Lady Macbeth - those suppressors of their conscience?
No amount of ritual purification will cleanse away the thoughts of death and destruction perpetrated by collaborators seduced into war or those without a drop of milk of human kindness left.
Not even a visit to ground-zero by teh holy father can absolve this administration and its handmaidens, no matter how many whispers from the Man in a Purple Dress [Also, see here.] of "I can absolve you," are delivered into Bushie's ear.
Posted by whaleshaman at April 20, 2008 09:54 AMThis surely looks like a "say it enough times till somebody actually believes it" post. More crockery from Paradox. Look, the media IS the enemy of both Republicans and Democrats. That should be the telling statement, but progressives will not see it that way. Yeah, look to that wrong track number. Look also to the approval numbers of both our President and our Congress. Blame the Republicans for both? Those numbers are shared.
About participation, seven to one advantage Democrats in fund raising for the presidency, yet McOld is even with either of "the best" Democrats have to offer. Over $350 million so far to a little over 50 million for McOld.
And about all those showing up to vote in the primaries, Democrats have out performed Republicans in eight out of ten election cycles with a high water mark of 75% in 1984, followed by 74% in 1972, and 68% trying to elect John Kerry in 2004. This years participation percentage ranks seventh on the list. President Clinton's victory in 1992 and President Carter's victory in 1976 out performed this years percentages. President Carter's re-election bid in 1980 drew some 61% of the primary electorate. This years participation edges just ahead of the 1980 participation at 62%.
Yeah, the vast numbers look impressive. The press seems to be doing their all in inflating the hope of those participating. So many of these seem to be getting upset because they're not seeing the results of their participation. They didn't know what to expect and what they experienced was flavored by that. How many of these will have the same zeal in November? How many will show up for the more important participation? America in 2000 saw an equally divided country. Democrats and Republicans got busy with their "get out the vote" organizations. Democrats were very successful at getting 17% more voters to the polls in 2004. Kudos to Democrats for their efforts. Republicans were able to get 21% increase in their participation...that's what won the 2004 vote.
2006 saw participation drop big time, from 122 million in 2004 to 56.5 million for 2006 with a majority for Democrats. 2008 is anybodies guess right now. It would appear Democrats are the more excited right now as they were in several earlier election cycles. That excitement doesn't garner results in November. That's undisputed history
Posted by peter at April 20, 2008 10:47 AMNo the media is not the enemy of Republicans. It is a major component of their wielding of power. Does anyone seriosly believe that the Republicans could have gottten away with all the stunts they have been pulling since the ´80s without (the bought and paid for) medias willing help?
