The global rice panic has come to south Sacramento. As word of food riots and export shutdowns in Asia reached California in recent weeks, worried shoppers have been buying up hundreds of pounds of rice at a time from the Asian supermarkets that line Stockton Boulevard, looking for security against rising prices.

Posted by Seven of Six at April 24, 2008 11:02 AMas long as Bush is president, if he can devise a scam to make more money for his Corporate buddies, he'll do something. Otherwise he'll foot drag until next January. I'll pick the latter.

Posted by Seven of Six at April 24, 2008 12:43 PMIsn't "global warming global"? Oh, I forgot, we just had to mandate biofuels and an increased use of food for gas. The idea of using food to increase the price of gas we pay. Going green has a price to pay. Australia and New Zealand, a year ago started to look down at the farmers for the greenhouse gases they produce. For those countries they produced as much as 40% of all greenhouse gases produced. I mentioned this after the 2006 vote here and got ripped for it...well now it's just about leading all the news.
The rainforest in Brazil are being cut down to produce more maze or cane for fuel. Didn't the ecology people warn us not to do so? Wasn't that part of the birth of the warming crowd? Stop harming the ozone layer. "Save the people of Bangledesh."
