Posted by dennis at April 27, 2008 06:31 AMToday the weather is near-perfect in Aleppo, Syria - warmish with a nice breeze. When I arrived by train last night at 8:30, it was a bit warm, but by midnight, as I walked alone in the Old City of Aleppo, it could not have been more perfect. The trains in Syria are generally not recommended, but the train ride from Lattakia to Aleppo is very nice indeed, and there is a social aspect to it also, which is nice.
In the village where I stayed in the coastal mountains before coming here it was unusually hot for a couple of days, but then it cooled down to a lovely, cool, misty perfection. That place is near to being heaven on earth.
The people of Syria are among the kindest, most helpful in the world. I wish Americans understood something real about this part of the world instead of the nonsense they are constantly fed. Politics are one thing, people are something altogether different.
Posted by Shirin at April 27, 2008 07:22 AMOvercast and drizzly here, but our new puppy that we got yesterday seems to like it outside. The kids are out playing with her now. Now if we could just get her to understand what else she's supposed to be doing outside. Luckily, she seems to think the place to pee if she's inside is in the kitchen, rather than on the carpeting.
